Outstanding Value. This is one of the best BnB places I have ever stayed at. Spacious room, super comfortable and the separate full kitchen is fantastic. Location is great, near the Metro and close to all the attractions. Barbara is a great host and very helpful. Everything is nearby and this made my stay in Vienna a highlight of my travels. This has to be the best VALUE BnB in Vienna

Staying with friends when in a new city is one of the best ways to travel, but when you don't know someone, a B&B like Stadtnest is the next best thing. Barbara is an amazing hostess and will go out of her way to let you know of interesting events happening around the city, offer advice on what to do (both in Vienna and outside), and even discuss current events and politics. Breakfast is fresh and excellent every morning, with a wide variety of selections, and always comes with a good discussion with Barbara. Rooms are clean, spacious, and with the look of being home, not in a sterile hotel. And the location is excellent - less than 10 minute walk to the U3 line, and a 10 minute ride to the inner city, plus the neighborhood is super quiet. Overall, highly recommended. We'll definitely stay here again when we come back to Vienna.

This BnB is in an extremely convenient position in Vienna’s 6th district an easy walk from public transport. The bed was a very comfortable king and the room was spotless, spacious and decorated with flair. We loved chatting with our hostess Barbara during breakfast. She was a wonderful source of useful information and local anecdotes. The breakfast is simple but largely handmade and Barbara takes great care in sourcing quality ingredients. We loved her home made bread. Thank you Barbara we look forward to seeing you again some time.

We stayed at Stadnest in 2011 and were extremely happy with the place so when we visited Vienna again this year it was our top choice. It was just as wonderful. The rooms are spacious and quiet, the bed comfortable, the breakfasts healthy and tasty and best of all we received excellent advice from Barbara on restaurants, sites and activities. That's what really sets Stadnest apart. Barbara suggested less touristy restaurants and activities Austrians enjoy doing. We loved our stay in Vienna and at Stadtnest!

We stayed recently at this B&B in the suburbs in Vienna for three nights. It was perfectly acceptable. Nothing particular to complain about but, on the other hand, nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary. Clean, decent breakfast, meeting reasonable expectations of a B&B. We had to let ourselves in on a Sunday afternoon which we felt was a bit strange. Our hostess was chatty, though a bit opinionated. The room was comfortable enough though the bathroom squeezed into the corner of the room was a bit cramped. Maybe a little bit tired. A toss-up between average and good. But not five out of five. What drags my rating down to average ( and risked getting a poor) was the email my wife got after we got home. She had posted an average to good review on the site of the hostess's booking agent - which they turned into a score of 7.1 out of 9 or 10. So, still well above an average score of 5. This prompted an aggressive and unpleasant e-mail complaining about such a score and objecting to us damaging her business by not rating her excellent. Such an attitude problem means we would never particularly recommend this perfectly average B&B to one of our friends.

Response from stadtnest, Inhaber at Stadtnest Bed & Breakfast
Responded 25 Apr 2019
Not-to-please guests are a (side) fact of the business, and my excellent ratings confirm that my "attitude" problem is obviously a very biased and indeed unpleasant judgment on your side. Giving considerably-lower-than-average ratings in the aftermath of a stay while during the stay "all is perferct" I do indeed consider unfair. Honest and fair comments and criticism are always appreciated and welcome as they keep our standards high. I am well known for trying to address anything that does indeed lie in my ability to address. To set things straight: No, we are not located in the suburbs, we are in district 6 just five minutes off Vienna’s biggest shopping street. District 6, like all districts 1-9, is indeed the City Center, with the Old Town (district 1, a small part of the center) being just 10min by metro. Claiming something untrue in a review about an important fact such as the location just reconfirms your effort to dissuade future guests from staying here. Well, luckily most guests are very happy and express that not only here on Tripadivor through their excellent reviews. Despite of your wife’s unfair review - of course a review of 7 is downgrading for a small B&B which consistently gets 9.5 to 10 point reviews - I did not send an “aggressive message” to her and I also do not pursuade anyone to write excellent reviews (99% of guests just do without even being asked). I only stated my frustration with her unfair point rating - unfair because oft the following: 1) While you stayed at Stadtnest, you never mentioned anything you did not like either on the room, our location, or even the fact that I could not meet you on check-in but made sure that you found the key and all info you needed for doing an easy self-check-in. On the contrary, you gave me the impression that you really enjoyed your stay. 2) Your irritation and dislike only emerged at the very end of your stay when at payment you found out that the rates I offer to direct bookers are lower than what you had to pay since you booked via an Online Agent. This clearly upset you and triggered that review your wife sent via the Agent you booked on. 3) Your wife’s rating did not even state any facts one could take as points for improvement but just left that low 7 point rating. So I was not given any chance to understand what you did not like and what would have room for improvement. Maybe because there simply were no objective downgrading facts? Plus, by not writing up facts, your wife also made sure that I could not address her review publicly on the booking platform you used. If you are o.k. with your review then you should not fear the reply of the one it is addressed to. About me being “opinionated”, well, that actually made me smile. I have to say that most of my guests seem to enjoy a host who shares her opinions about Vienna, Austria and its history and politics. That is one of the reasons they actually stay at a B&B, because of the chance to get some insight views. I never impose my presence on any of my guests, but I do remember vividly that you kept involving me in discussions. Sorry to see only now that you obviously do not like women who have an opinion (different from yours) and “dare” to express it. A final word on rates: Unfortunately OTAs charge their accommodation partners a high commission rate which makes it almost impossible for small B&Bs like mine to survive and therefore we of course offer our direct bookers better rates. Anyone who can handle Google will be able find our direct website and therefore have a chance to obtain better rates. Do not blame the small B&B for this, rather support the individual business by avoiding big multinational agents.

Barbara was an excellent host, with so much knowledge about her home city and keen to share it. The room was in a good location, within walking distance of a main shopping street, which led to the city centre. It was comfortable and well furnished and equipped with free hot drinks. There was a folder full of tips and recommendations and free Wi-Fi, as well as a desktop computer for guest use. We went to a local restaurant, which was typical Austrian - they were very welcoming to visitors, but at the same time it is frequented by locals, which in my mind makes it ideal for an authentic experience.

Having become more discriminating about our accommodation, we spend a great deal of time perusing TripAdvisor listings and reviews before making a decision. The excellent comments about Barbara, good-sized rooms and access to kitchen facilities convinced us to choose Stadtnest. There is no question as to why Stadtnest is rated so highly: Barbara! She is the epitome of helpfulness and knowledge about Vienna. She is generous with her time in answering questions, making suggestions, and printing out tickets, boarding passes, etc. She has large maps and books available as well as an information binder covering just about anything you might want to know. And her website is extensive, including points of interest and local transportation as well as links to pertinent websites. Our email communication with Barbara was excellent both when booking and prior to arrival. In fact, she made a suggestion about our route which saved us time and inconvenience when arriving from Graz. We stayed in the Burma Room (Room 2 on the booking site) which was large but cosy, with two large windows looking onto the quiet street. We enjoyed having the guest kitchen just a few steps away to make early-morning coffee and for storing food and wine. Barbara served a generous breakfast with a range of choices and was kind enough to put out an early breakfast for us on our last morning. We found the location excellent: on a quiet street but not too far from the acitivity of Mariahilfer Strasse. U-Bahn 3 is just a few blocks away for travelling to the core and Westbahnhof is a 10-minute walk for the train and the Vienna Airport Lines bus. All in all, we highly recommend Stadtnest.

We stayed four nights and had a lovely big room with everything we wanted. The beds were SOOOO comfortable! Barbara is a most welcoming host and full of very valuable information about the B&B, the things to do in Vienna and anything you would want to know. She made our stay so easy, so comfortable. She was so flexible and accommodating to our needs. Stadtnest B&B really deserves its high TripAdvisor rating.

We stayed 3 nights in Vienna at Stadtnest B&B. Stadtnest is in a great location with plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby and only 4 metro stops from St Stephens Plaza, it is so easy to get around on the metro it didn’t cause us any problems getting into the city centre for dinner or returning, it is very safe. Barbara hour host was very accommodating and gave us lots of advice and directions to get places. The room was bright and there was plenty of room to relax after sightseeing, the bathroom was very nice and there were adequate towels and ammenities. If you are looking for a really nice place to stay in Vienna, it’s at Stadtnest.

We spent 5 nights here and very much enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely and spacious. Barbara went out of her way to be friendly and helpful, orienting us to the public transit and helping with suggestions for the best sightseeing passes. Breakfast was very good. We liked the location, which was a short and easy subway ride to pretty much everything we wanted to see, but not in the midst of crowds of tourists. There is no longer laundry service available, and we wished we had known that ahead of time. Other than that, everything was perfect and an exceptional value for the price.
