Clouse to the tram linie, good location, comfy bed, its really 2** Pension, nice older receptionist. Any answer to my e-mail. A bit old facilities. The breakfast was the worst that I have seen in Vienna in last 10 years! No variety, very, very poor. No buffet. Common bedroom, I could not sleep at night, noisy. Big noise during the... More

Location is excellent, convenient access to public transit in all directions, short trip to City Centre. Rooms are clean, shower stalls in single rooms are tight for a stocky guy like me. Breakfast is fine. Pension is on 5th floor of building, all rooms look out on a street; access by modern elevator. Tourist information provided, front desk staff friendly... More

We've stayed there for 3 weeks. Owing to our long stay, we changed the room twice. All of the rooms were clean. This pension was in a good location for us and full of supermarkets around it. The owner was a very kind man wants to help us. Unfortunately we couldn't say goodbye to him the last day of our... More

Very good location, the room was very big and the staff was amazing. If you want to visit Viena this is a very good option, the center can be reached in 15 min and there are a good amount of options to eat very close to the pension.

Pension Ani is in a very good location, near the old town, tram to Schottentor (metro U2) is in front of the building and it takes about 5 minutes. Old rooms, but clean. Staff is allways very nice and helpful.

The room smelt air freshener when I arrived, barely masking the stale cigarette smoke. I returned to reception to ask for a non-smoking room - "The rooms are all non-smoking," What about the ash-tray, why is there an ash-tray in the room? - "It is decorative." There were no other rooms available, so I returned to mine to fulminate. A... More

The bedroom and bathroom are ok. Cleaning is ok as well. The staff are nice and helpful. It can be a bit noisy in the night because of the tram. The hotel is on the fourth floor of a building. This is close to a metro station and 15 min walking to the University main campus.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.

“Just FYI if you are gluten-intolerant (like I am): Breakfast is big rolls and spreads only. In my ignorance about Austrian culture, I had assumed the breakfastses would be big smorgasbord-type affairs with meats, etc. like they are Germany and Czech Rep., but I was told Austrians think it's strange to have meats for breakfast, so it might be worth letting the Pension know beforehand or bringing some extra GF foods while traveling.”
