Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Arnt and Anette were great hosts. Free coffee, hot chocolate and tea. No elevator/lift but they helped us with our luggages up the stairs. We also booked the Northern Lights Tour with them and we came home happy having seen a glimpse of Aurora Borealis. So worth it!

Hotel's Favourite
Stayed here for three nights in total either side of a trip to Svalbard, and it was absolutely ideal for what we needed. Great location, just a five minute walk from the centre of town. Cosy, clean and comfortable rooms, and very straightforward checkin procedure with door codes delivered by email/text in advance. Nice living room area and well-equipped kitchen with free tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc.

We didn’t stay at the Ami Hotel, but booked an intimate trip for 5, to hunt for the Aurora. Pick up and drop off either outside the Ami Hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were given warm clothing and boots. Our driver and guide, Sarah, was great, originally from Wales, she was very knowledgeable and told us interesting tales of Norwegian folklore, talked about the different locations that she’d travelled to for great views of the ‘lights’. She was very friendly, and brought fold up chairs to have hot drinks, sausages to toast around a firepit and also doughnuts. Sarah drove us to a few spots and saw the wonder of the ‘Northern Lights’. She also took photos of our group which were great. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Stayed in room 37 which was fine for solo traveller. Attached private bathroom was good and perfect hot shower. Free coffee was appreciated and I cooked a meal one day which helps with the high costs of Norway. Have left feeling very relaxed.

This place offers quiet and clean accomodation near the city centre. The management, in particular Sarah, is doing everything to make guests feel comfortable and find flexible solutions for short-term changes. Very well equipped kitchen and comfortable common room. All in all best value for money.

While this hotel is really more of a youth hostel-style place, it is very conveniently located right in the middle of Tromsø and only five minutes' walk from the Hurtigruten boat terminal, which was really handy for me. Strangely, check-in after 3pm (which is surely when most people need to check in!) is done by yourself using a door code. Because I hadn't spoken to a human by the next morning, I had breakfast (very basic) without realising that there was an extra charge for it. There is cereal, bread, rolls, fillings for these and juice/tea/coffee but that's all. I don't think I would have paid for it if I'd known ahead of time the price. There are also cooking facilities for people who want to make their own lunch or dinner. Wifi worked well, too, and is available throughout the building. There is a small lounge with a couple of couches, but the TV only had a couple of channels, which were fuzzy. Overall, I wasn't expecting anything too fancy, and the room was fine, but there are one or two areas for improvement.

AMI Hotel was lovely, clean, peaceful, mostly painted white and very spacious. There were little seating areas, each with sofa, chairs and a computer desk and TV on each floor. The rooms had plenty of space, with a desk and a chair for each occupant, nice and warm with good lighting, hairdryer and a fridge/freezer. The beds were very comfortable. It was possible to cook in the kitchen downstairs and to eat your own food in the dining room. Breakfast was provided and was very good (90 NORSK) and tea and coffee were free at all times. There was a dear little park below the hotel and a short but steep walk downtown which we did not mind at all. A bus stop with a regular service until around mid-night was very close by. Excellent English spoken by the Norwegian receptionist.

Hotel Ami is was exceptionally good hotel as a base for exploring Tromso. Very well located, clean and warm, the shared kitchen and free coffee machine helped save money. The staff were efficient and I was able to store by luggage on the day of departure. I would definitely stay there again.
