You feel part of a family at Mai Samui. If you are looking for quiet surroundings, attentive staff and lovely food this is a place for you. Its Japanese inspired designed is centred around large pools, seaward facing. I can’t rate Mai Samui highly enough. The only negative I have read on Trip Advisor that I would agree with is, it’s not a place if you have mobility issues. Lots of stairs.

My stay at the above resort was far from pleasant. 1. There is no Occupational Health and Safety at this resort. There are NO handrails into the pool or on the many small bridges dotted around the resort. The steps up to the pool are of painted wood, so when wet, are very slippery, again no handrails. Reception- The 20 steps, (see photos attached) to reach reception are incredibly steep with NO HANDRAILS and made of stone, so if you fell you would have a serious injury. At Breakfast (which had the best manager and staff member in the entire resort) we had to negotiate slabs of concrete with big spaces in between to carry out plates back and forth to our tables. One man had his child's stroller wheel caught in one of the spaces between the slabs of concrete. 2. The WIFI was abysmal. You could barely send an email let alone look at photos on Facebook, staying in touch with family is important. 3. The TV had no live channels, you had to use You Tube!!!!! This took a hotel staff member 7 attempts to enable me to watch one, yes ONE channel my whole 7 day stay. The US ABC news channel. That was it. My last hotel in Siem Reap Cambodia, a third world country, had 55 channels -all free. 4. The pool. Looks quite nice but the green water makes it look and feel like you are in a pond. Also there are no sun loungers by the pool, they are only usable after you trek down to the beach. Very inconvenient and no wonder our rooms were full of sand. 5 The "jetty" is made of used empty plastic containers! Horrible! 6.The old and stained beach umbrellas were not able to be erected by a guest as they were too old and had no pin to keep the umbrella up, it had to be tied by a staff member if you could find one. 7.On a positive note, all the inclusions, massage, breakfast and lunch/or dinner were available. Unfortunately the masseuse, very nice lady, has not one word of English so she cannot understand a word you are saying. Nor can she make an appointment. This property needs to be investigated by Luxury Escapes if they are going to offer this as such on their website. It is also 30-40mins away from Chaweng Beach with only day time shuttle and no night pick ups which means the guests had to pay $25 AUD each trip.. Cannot recommend this property.

Excellent setting with own beach and ample area to swim. Staff very helpful and courteous. Breakfast, well presented, varied and calm atmosphere. Only reason not to give 5 star. We are in our 70’s and found it a slight challenge to negotiate the bridges over the pool areas to access reception, restaurant and bar, particularly when wet. There is no hand rail and, at night, bright red lights set in the bridge to help, actually made it more difficult. However, I would certainly recommend this resort.

Pool was not swimmable. Dirty and green. More like a pond than a pool. Internet didn’t work for most of our stay. Long line ups at front counter with people complaining. Most of the day managers were unhelpful and unkind. The night manager gave us a free upgrade but that didn’t fix the pool or internet situation. Really really not worth it, even if at a discounted rate. I hope this review saves you a bad holiday.

We recently stayed at Mai Samui as a family of four with another two families. We found the staff to be very accomodating and helpful whenever we needed anything and the rooms were very nice. The main pool was enormous which the kids loved and there was an additional three pools they never even used, yes it looked a little dirty but I think that was just the tiles used and the fact it isn’t loaded with chemicals everyday to keep it clear, they have staff cleaning the pool all day every day so the water is clean. The sand at the beach is quite shelly and rocky so not the easiest access if you want to swim but looks nice from the sun beds. The buffet breakfast was great with a great selection that changed slightly most days. There was only one restaurant available but had a decent range of food to choose from, most things we tried from the menu were quite good although a dedicated kids menu would improve this. The location isn’t great if you want to be in town and close to everything with lots to do but if you want a quiet and relaxing place it is perfect. They provide shuttle buses into Chaweng and Nathon I believe it was twice a day but they could be more frequent and maybe run a little later as the last bus home is at 4.30 so if you want to go out for dinner you have to organise another way back. You can organise private shuttles through reception which somewhat helps with this. Not all facilities were available at the time of our stay and the place is a little run down by Australian standards but they were performing maintenance every day to try to restore it to its former beauty pre COVID. Hopefully as business picks up they can start to open all the available facilities to full capacity and get this place back to what it once would have been.

I would say that the hotel rooms are great. Very spacious and the bathrooms are amazing. Shame there is not a fridge in the room. It was quite expensive for the experience. The pool is rather dirty but it is still nice and the staff are always cleaning it. The restaurant is average and last orders are 8:30pm which is quite early but they offer room service which is great! The staff are smiley but not very helpful. All in all the hotel was very clean and a good experience.

The Mai Samui Beach Resort & Spa charms with its location on picturesque Laem Yai in the north-east of Koh Samui. An immaculately clean beach stretches in front of the resort, although swimming is only possible at high tide. Architecturally, the hotel sets accents: The rooms are spread over three-storey buildings, picturesquely grouped around the pools. With a well thought-out lighting concept, the resort is transformed into a magical sea of lights in the evening. Both the buildings and the rooms are in a clean and well-maintained condition, although minor maintenance work is urgently needed. Unfortunately, the hotel has a real service problem. The nicest of the restaurants overlooking the sea is unfortunately closed. The beach bar is unfortunately only open between noon and 6pm. There are no service staff on the beach, guests have to carry and stretch the parasols themselves and bring towels from their rooms. Glasses and ashtrays from the previous day are also not cleared away. In addition, the open restaurant closes at 10 p.m., thus ending all service. However, the staff present are very good, very friendly, exceptionally helpful and competent. Despite the clear weaknesses in the service, we have a very nice time at this resort.

We stayed 7 nights in a pool room on luxury escape deal. Although the property could do with a bit of maintenance (probably due to neglect during Covid I would imagine) we loved our stay & would definitely stay again. The cocktails were plentiful, food was great, plenty of choice at breakfast. Resort is nice & quiet and although a little remote the free shuttle bus to town is great. The only downside is the rocky beach, but catch the bus to town if you want a nice sandy beach. Staff were all very friendly & helpful. Room was spacious & clean. Overall for the price we were very happy.

Positive points: 1-rooms are very spacious with high ceilings. 2-they change the sheets and towels everyday 3-people working there are kind people ( most of them) 4-you are on the seafront 5- there is a paying laundry service 6- every room on the second floor has an outdoor small pool and terrace Point to be improved: 1-they don’t always clean the bathroom 2-our sink tap fell 3-internet comes and goes and you have to reconnect all the time 4- far from any city so you are forced to take a taxi, rent a motorbike or a car 5-the restaurant has a simple and repetitive menu 6-they ruined a pair of adidas shorts at the laundry service 7- one of the managers is very rude 8- the swimming pool looks dirty and without chlorine 9- payments are sometimes difficult to be made 10- the breakfast lounge is filled with flies and mosquitos and birds (coming for your food) 11- every bed has a quilt and you sweat even with air conditioning. 12- there are no single sheets but only quilt covers 13- the beach is not a sandy one and full of rocks and looks dirty.

I nearly changed my holiday because of the negative reviews that i read here, however i was so pleased i didn't and went with my gut instinct. I have just returned from the most wonderful relaxing holiday at the Mai Samui beach resort. The hotel has been built in a traditional Thai style, on a quiet peninsular of Samui. So if you are looking for a glossy high rise concrete soulless block with entertainment and plenty of bars surrounding you, then this is not the place for you. There are a few local restaurants and a coffee shop only a few minutes walk away. With lively Bophut, with the Fisherman's market and Nathon are only a short taxi ride away (or free bus from hotel every day). The hotel has a variety of rooms to stay in, a couple of restaurants and a great beach bar with an extensive cocktail menu. The staff are all amazing, friendly and helpful. The hotel is currently having a few renovations but so has everyone else. Hotels and bars across the world have all suffered being locked down for several years due to Covid 19, and have only just re-opened, so yes they all need to do a bit of catch up. The renovations did not impact us in any way, and did not spoil our holiday one bit. I chose not to do all inclusive and opted for breakfast only. There was plenty of choice every morning. The egg chef was always busy with everyone's individual orders. One very small negative is the lack gluten free options or milk alternatives, but we worked around it. The beach is not your usual tropical lounging sandy spot. This is a very shallow tidal bay with some rocks and corals. It is great for a low tide walk, but not swimming. To make up for this the hotel has a couple of large well thought out swimming pools. and there is a raised sandy area to the front of the beach with plenty of sunbeds and chairs to lounge on. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel if you prefer a quite resort but with easy access to livelier towns. If i have the chance i would definitely come back again. Thank you everyone at Mai Samui for a wonderful stay.
