Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed here last year and was my favourite hotel in Eastbourne for a little get away. I’m absolutely gutted though that it’s now up for sale?? I really hope someone buys it soon so we can go back here! I am shocked it’s for sale though as always seemed really busy. 😢

Reception was very dark, young lad on the desk was friendly enough though. Our room was top floor. I would suggest not taking too much luggage as narrow, steep stairwells. Room was small and exceptionally hot. No hairdryer in the room; not a bad thing really as wouldn't have wanted the extra heat anyway! Room, as the rest of the hotel, is just in need of a refresh. Thankfully, bed was comfy enough for one night. One point to note, though to be clear, not really hotels fault - we found it really difficult to find a parking space.

Upon arrival I wasn't even sure that the place was open as there were no lights on at all. I then saw two men sitting behind a desk. First impressions: oh god It's fairly grim in all honesty. You can't go shopping in Wilko for a few fake orchids and some hideous canvas art and call your place a boutique hotel. It's not clean as the photos show. There's no music in the bar (if you can call it that) and zero atmosphere. Honestly, don't waste your money

Stayed in the Aqua room with the jacuzzi..carpets stained, no curtains to cover the window...half the bathroom lights out... jacuzzi bath all scratch up. Mould on the wall by the window.. wallpaper hanging off... complained and got £20.00 off the room..as they said no one had noticed it...still over priced for what I think to be a poor room.

My partner and I stayed at this "boutique " hotel for 2 nights on a Friday and Saturday in September 2017. I felt like I had walked into a bleak, narrow rabbit warren. Our room door was unable to be unlocked and opened if we were stood together- no room to move especially with overnight bags. Inside, the room was standard budget size and cold, the bedding was grubby and looked in need of whitening. The quilt inside was grey! The tea and milk tasted stale. The bed was ok other than you rolled into the middle. The bathroom was dark, a light bulb in the high ceiling was out and the sink and bath plugs both needed descaling and were stained. Perhaps it was just as well the lighting was inadequate! The outside of the building was unlit in the evening, during the day you could see how in need it was of TLC, peeling paint and scruffy. The staff were not particularly communitive or friendly. Definitely not stay there again .

Stayed one night. Bed squeaked. Duvet cover was inside out. Duvet was old. Room was small and uncomfortable. Staff were friendly but the overall outlook was that the property was tired and needs updating. The entrance steps were dirty and worn. Narrow hallways and lots of stairs. Parking on side roads is free if you can find a space. but its a 5-10 minute walk back to the hotel.

Nice helpful front of house staff, clean dinning and seating area shame can not be the same for the bed room, wallpaper hanging off bath had to be cleaned before we got in it. Saucer had old tea stains on. Hair hanging of off a picture and another stuck to the wall. In desperate need of decorating and housekeeping need to do there job better. Feel like I wasted my money and very disappointed will not be going back

We chose the hotel from another due to the spacious room size in the description - 25 m2. However when we got into the room it was very small, max 19 m2. We asked for a better room as this was not up to the description standard, but were offered an upgrade for a payment of GBP 160. The hotel is not boutique style at all. Just a simple, cheap category 3* hotel. Lacking maintenance badly. Personal service, same boy in the reception, and breakfast during our whole stay. Only one key available per room, and front door closed at 21. Not convenient for going out separately.

We stayed for the Eastbourne Airshow, having a double room on the Friday & Saturday 18th/19th August 2017. We checked in with a pleasant lad and were shown Room 12 (it's relevant) on the fourth floor (7 half-flights of steps and no lift). No fridge despite Reception assuring us we'd missed it and only believing us after THREE trips up those stairs. So no water that's promised and it was a HOT day. The window opened to three foot wide and the ease of falling down four storeys a tad worrying but I'm not too clumsy yet so its unreal, but OK for US. The next people? Who knows. The floor has disgusting stains on the carpet. The TV has Sky News, Forces TV and Challenge. That's it. Not even basic BBC. We asked and told we're right, there are only the three channels and that's it. We asked why the fire doors are open at each stairhead and we're told that's because the closers don't work. OK then, good to know. The light on the bathroom mirror doesn't work so either turn to the loo or the shower but no direct light. It's broken they agree. The mirror on the wall is good for stuying midriff, maybe more but useless for face unless you're three foot tall or kneeling. There is another one in the bathroom but it has no near-by light. The tea-cups weren't washed, just that old chambermaid trick of a lick-of-the-thumb and a wipe around. That's just gross. The dust in the door jam was gross and it dropped in clumps. So all pretty petty stuff but easily remedial and that's the real reason for me thinking it's just shy of a dump. The worst aspect is that when we get home we decide to readt Tripadvisor reviews and Room 12 comes up again and again. Same stuff. IF they apologised or just took a bit off the bill then fine. But they didn't nor did they care and reading through it's obvious they couldn't care less. For that they get ONE star as ZERO stars isn't available. Mickey-taking, lazy and contemptuous of their clients.

Well, to say I am extremely disappointed is an understatement! Myself and my husband have just returned home after a 2 night stay at this hotel. We booked this for our 21st anniversary and wanted it to be special. Upon arrival, we checked in was shown to our room( which was basic) but had a jacuzzi which we wanted. Later that evening we run our bath and put the jets on!! It absolutely stunk of sewage! We were moved to another room, with a jacuzzi, with a jet missing that covered me in water when we put it on! We were then moved to another room! Sunset, smaller and not what we wanted! The whole experience has been a disaster and has ruined what was supposed to be a special time for us. Do not go here, not worth the money.
