The Cavendish Hotel boasts a prime location lauded by many guests for its beach proximity and vibrant city life. However, some travelers have voiced frustration with the level of service, deeming it unprofessional and the staff as disinterested. While the hotel presents a facade of grandeur, opinions are divided, with guests often disappointed by the outdated decor and lackluster amenities, which include additional charges for Wi-Fi and parking. Room conditions have drawn criticism for lack of cleanliness, and the value proposition is frequently questioned as guests expect more for their money.

We booked this hotel over a month before arriving as we were dropping off a family member at Heathrow at 6am. We rang the hotel when we booked, to ask for an early check in and were told that this was not possible, even if we paid. We emailed the hotel several times, and didn't get a response. On the day, we arrived at 9am, and explained that we had been travelling since 2.30am, and although we couldn't have early check in, could they do their best for us to check in before the official time of 4pm. They said they would. We waited around Eastbourne until 3pm then went to reception, to find a lady and her grandson having early check in. We asked the receptionist, who was almost robotic in her responses, why was this lady allowed early check in and we weren't, to the reply 'she booked it', we said that we tried and were told we couldn't, and the reply was 'she paid', we said that we offered to pay and the reply was 'she booked it a month ago', we said that we had tried a month ago, to the response 'you should have booked it'. At no time did the receptionist offer any kind of reason or apology, and then said 'go and sit in the corner until your room is ready'!! We had booked an executive room, which was large and comfortable with a large bathroom and a lovely view. However, the only complimentaries in the bathroom were two pieces of soap, the same size as an alka selzer (photo attached) and nothing else. The patio, which could have been really magnificent, was filthy, covered in cigarette butts/packets, beer bottle tops, and worst of all, a piece of metal spiking which is used to deter pigeons, lying spike-up on the floor (photo attached). The patio was also covered in bird poo, although I realise that it must be difficult to keep it free from that considering the number of seagulls in Eastbourne. The patio definitely hadn't been cleaned for months. Did I mention that the front steps of the hotel were also covered in cigarette butts and packets, and a lady was complaining about how filthy it was when we arrived, and when we left it was still unswept. The saving grace for this hotel is the location, which is excellent, the restaurant staff, which were pleasant and helpful and the size of the room we had. The reception staff need retraining. I wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed in the 7th Feb using a groupon voucher that cost £65 for this we got a room, Dinner a bottle of wine and breakfast.
Rooms are outdated and really hot we had our window open all night and it was still boiling but they seemed to be clean and the bathroom was in good nick.
Dinner was ok very small portions but the food was good.
Breakfast was buffet and pretty much what you expect from a buffet breakfast.
Worth £65? Definitely

DisappointingWhen we booked our check in was 15:00pm, we arrived at around 2:45pm and was told the lady at receptionist we had to wait until 16:00pm before we could go into our room because of the Covid19 rules. At no point were we informed after we had made the booking that our check in time would be changed, we had to wait in the lobby area and over heard others being checked in and told they could go to there room even though they had a later check in time to us. Just as well my partner went to reception as he was impatient just to acknowledge that there were 6-10 people in the same predicament as us then suddenly we was allowed to check in. I would recommend a course for the staff on customer service. However I spoke to another member of staff that was working (forgot his name)and he was very helpful and considerate in providing our room keys immediately.

When we entered the room it was extremely stuffy and no window to open, thank god there were portable fans in the wardrobe otherwise we would have over heated!
The pillow was flat as a pancake and tried to get more but was told to put a request in the next day before 12pm, when we received it, it was like brand new I’m unsure why they thought it was acceptable to give such a used pillow with no support, my first night was extremely uncomfortable, we had no sleep due to back and neck ache.

The room needed to be updated, the walls were dirty and had dents in them. Our door looked like someone has put a hole in and it had been filled in.
The bathroom has black dirt on the bath and the sink was blocked.
There were two small soaps and some complimentary tea/coffee but were not refilled on the second day of staying.
The bedside lamp was broken and stained, it was stuck together using masking tape, when we went to move it so we could put the fan there it fell apart.

This hotel is very Covid aware. Hand sanitiser on every floor and at lift entrances. Masks worn at all times in main reception area. Social distancing observed throughout hotel, including dining room, lounge and bar. Excellent room with sea view. I asked to be near a lift because of my disability, they did, it was the first room on the left on 4th floor. Double room with relaxing area at one end with coffee table & chairs - double bed at other end. Very Covid aware. Your room is not entered by any staff. Rubbish bin is left outside room by guests, it is emptied and left outside your room with new liner Same with towels. Additional tea and coffee may be asked for at reception & is given in a sealed bag After guests leave, room is thoroughly cleaned and sealed until new guests arrive. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful.
This is by far the best hotel I have stayed in in Eastbourne. Note: Steps up to front of hotel but you can take lift to basement level where you can exit via a ramp into side street. Excellent position near to bandstand. Five minutes walk to town centre.

We tried 4 different rooms all were dirty and in a poor state of repair. Windows that dont open and rooms too hot, threadbare carpets in rooms and staircases. Furniture faded and worn. All decor very tired, chipped and marked. Fridges that dont work. Standard of cleaning is appalling in communal areas and rooms. Breakfast is nothing like its advertised, few packets of cereal, semi hot cooked food very limited. Free wifi as advertised is not free, apart for the first 20mins !! However its location is great and very central.

We arrived early, 1045 so we went to check in knowing we couldn't have access to our room until 4 and the receptionist said that was fine as queue would be down to the pier at 4! we were glad we did as it turned out to be the longest check in I've ever experienced, I have no idea why. I asked to use the facilities, we had had a 2 hr trip, there was no loo paper in any of the 3 ladies cubicles or paper towels, and 2 days later there still wasn't!!. The place was filthy, it smelt filthy, thick dust everywhere, dead flies on windowsill, the carpets needed hoovering, the hotel has no windows to open in the communal areas, the only air source is the entrance. Its stifling. The room was incredibly miserable, dark and depressing, we had a seaview, I cant imagine what the rooms in the basement with no windows were like. The window was bolted down leaving a 4 inch gap, you couldn't breath properly in there. The furniture was very old, shabby and stained as were the walls. Its advertised as a 4Star, this hotel is nothing more than a grotty hostel. As requested on the card inside your room leave your towels outside of your room to be changed, they took the towels but didnt replace them! We chose not to have the full english, charged at £15.50, and jolly glad we didnt it was handed over to you, in a polystyrene take away box for you to 'enjoy' in your room. Car parking is charged at £8 per day, it's only £7.80 on the sea front, 8 -6. I phoned Booking.com who offered us accommodation at the Horsted Hotel and Spa, in land, no where near the coast for €427. I then spoke to the manager of hotel, as suggested by Booking.com who did nothing but mumble he would "speak to line manager." He never got back to us. Disgraceful. This hotel is not fit for purpose, it is in an appalling state. I just couldn't get the filth and grime to show in the pictures, they are not a reflection of just how terrible it was. Please spend a pound or two more to book elsewhere and avoid disappointment, we feel completely robbed of our hard earned money, it wasnt cheap, £95 per night. I cried and cried, weve both worked throughout lockdown, I'm a teacher and just needed a little staycation. The people who own this hotel are robbing us hard working normal people.

I get that we are under COVID 19 conditions. My booking with Premier Inn was cancelled at short notice so I had to quickly find somewhere else.

This hotel had a good reputation so it was booked.

The door to the room has a seal which I broke to get in saying the room had been sanitized.

It was very disappointing once I was in. The furniture was very old and dated. In the bath room the little complementary shower creams were on the corner of the bath with the lids off from the guest before me.

The hotel phone looked like some one had spat over it. The air conditioning unit had a tonne of fluff in the vents. I didn’t dare put that on. The plugs on the wall hadn’t been touch in years.

There was little in the corridors which hadn’t been picked up or hoovered in the 3 days I was there.

Never will I return

Both my self ( disabled) and my neighbour ( 83) arrived knowing it was a 16:00 checkin, we got there at 16:30 the queue was out the door. No chair to wait to be served, two staff members one on the phone the whole time leaving one to checkin the whole queue. Took over twenty minutes to get keys. Paid £16 for parking and £20 extra for two days breakfast ( first mistake). Got to the room to find stickers on the door saying room fully sanitised, but I think not as clothing left in wardrobe dust so thick on the side light I could write my name in it. Was told by receptionist that no servicing of the rooms but if wet towels and bin left outside room they would replaced, This didn’t happen! Shower curtain didn’t reach the bottom so floor was drenched, hence needing replacement towels. Tea and coffee cane sealed with polystyrene cups, tasted awful. Had to go to local store to buy cups glasses and teaspoons. Couldn’t face using the plastic rubbish provided. Still don’t understand why proper utensils and COVID had in common because, soap and hot water kills it!!! Bar only open every other night on staff member on duty doing food and drinks as the weather was stormy bar was quite full did feel for him.
Breakfast very poor, only good thing was the staff member serving, food was very basic, poor choice no choice in cereal one day only bran flakes, would or should of gone to Tesco or Morrison’s. So don’t bother with it.
Entrance from the carpark was via call button waited over 10 minutes only got in when another guest came out. The inner release button was filthy black marks on and around ( not clean in days) the passage way was covered in dust The shelves had glass and cup marks all.
Key to door kept failing had to get duty staff to let us in.
Over all experience very poor would not recommend this tired under staffed dirty hotel to anyone.

Oh dear, pleAse read all the reviews before booking it, cheap it’s what you pay and cheap is what you get, we’ve regretted so much booking this hotel, it’s so dirty and needs urgent repairs, our bathroom has a cracked sink and I personally haven’t seen cleaning being done, tables in the reception were dirty and dust everywhere.
During this period with Covid -19 they should clean more often, I’ve noticed that the lift had marks everywhere and it was obvious that there was no one cleaning.
Any questions please ask.location is great that’s why I gave one star

One night stay for my birthday.. on the whole, it’s an awful hotel. We had wanted The Hydro (nearby hotel), but it was full.
On arrival the steps leading up to the building are filthy, as are the windows.. never a good indicator.
No enthusiastic welcome from Reception staff upon checking-in.
Stayed in room 123 Willingdon Suite. Large room with separate living room.
Everything looks dusty and the whole hotel is in need of a refurb.
Although there was a sanitised sticker on the door - indicating a clean room, there was underwear (bra) from a previous occupant in the top of the wardrobe.
Rooms are very hot and stuffy, even though we were provided with two fans.
No toiletries provided and we had to ask for toilet roll.
Breakfast was provided in a room overlooking the beach, but it felt soulless.
A couple of staff in the dining room were wearing masks, but only covering their mouths?!
No real choice for the cooked breakfast, but ate it because we were hungry, but not in the least bit enjoyable. The coffee was undrinkable.
We paid £147.00.
We’ve paid a similar amount to stay at Foxhills - a country club in Surrey, which has extensive facilities and engaging staff ... and quite frankly, there’s no comparison.
In our honest opinion, save your money and stay elsewhere.
I wouldn’t go back if you paid me to.
