The hotel is smartly presented from front to back with none of the signs of neglect you sometime see and has a smart entrance with outdoor seating area.
You enter via a beautifuly presented and stylishly furnished sun lounge which runs the length of the building before an inner door leads to small reception area with lift and stairs off.On the left is a stunning guest lounge , beautifully furnished and onced encamped therein would be dificult to leave!,lovely place to relax ,read or while away some time with friends. On the right is restauraunt which we did not experience due to covid restrictions.
The welcome was exeptionally warm and friendly thanks to young man whose name escapes me but he had very fetching bright yellow hair which you can,t miss and reflects his 'sunshine'personality'.Nothing was to much trouble for this young man throughout our stay and the check in encompaased 'covid' procedures which we found reassuring and confirmed the hotel took its responsibility to guests and staff very seriouslly.
We had a sea view standard double on second floor and we were delighted to find that the high standard of decor and presentstion we found on first sight con tinued in our room ,absolutely beutiful with huge bed and balcony( none of the usual cobwebs and bird droppimgs evident on balcony you usually find!)
On reflection this hotel appears to have had a high satisfaction rating so at some time they must have got their customer service right ? Perhaps we were to quick in trying to support our hospitality Industry after Covid
My advise is shop around you can get better value for money
The problems arose when I came down to breakfast, prior to me going to work, to find no-one around and no breakfast. On enquiring to the on-call number left on reception I was advised there was none and the explanation that I should have known this due as they had blocked all booking methods from including breakast! The hotel was completely unapologetic and indifferent to me going to work without any breakfast and seemed to take the attitude that it wasn't their problem. When I pointed out that nothing had been mentioned at check in, despite it clearly showing on the booking, they insisted I emailed them a copy to prove it - seemingly accusing me of making it up! Begrudgingly they agreed to refund me the cost of one breakfast (despite the room being booked for two with my my wife planning to meet me for breakfast after being unavoidably unable to stay the night) but refused me the second breakfast refund! Furthermore they disputed that I had made the booking through Hotels.com and said it had come through Expedia, which it hadn't.
As a final insult, the hotel left me the breakfast refund in cash behind reception with a copy of their 'Expedia' booking, seemingly in an attempt to 'prove' they were correct. This turned out to be from Hotels.com and again had the terms as 'Standard BB' which I confirmed with Hotels.com meant 'Bed and Breakfast'. They seemed to be unaware of this, which I feel is incredulous in a supposedly professional operation.
I feel very sorry that a lovely hotel is let down by such poor management, who completely failed to take ownership of an issue and just tried to foist the blame on anyone other then themselves rather than deal with it in a professional and courteous manner
We were greeted by the lovely Ilana and given the new covid rules and explained how breakfast would work with the closure of the restaurant(choose from a very extensive list and your breakfast delivered to your room), then off to out suite, number 28.
It was a beautifully decorated, large room with wonderful views across the sea, the pier and the downs.
Everything was spotlessly clean and certain items had been individually wrapped to keep sanitised.
The breakfast was delicious and fresh and hot. And enjoyed in the lounge of our room overlooking the beach.
The bathroom was massive with a huge corner bath and a tv to watch dvd's. A lovely treat for my 9 year old!
Overall a lovely stay again in a hotel who are following the covid rules to the letter but still allow the guests to have a great break away.
On arrival once we settled in I noticed I had been given a slip for cold or warm sandwiches for the entire stay, I informed the lady on reception the next morning that when we booked it had not said this on there web site which was why we choose it to include breakfasts, at that point a lady appeared who was serving the breakfasts and said it was, I then asked her for some milk for my mum where she become rude to me and said I had not ticked the box for milk and could I please make sure I filled out the form correctly, I let this go, what's in a bit of milk, however the next day, I arrived at reception she was there again, I kindly said could I please have a parking scratch card, she did not even say good morning, there was no interaction, she just slammed down the card and took my money.
That evening I asked Edward who is the only friendly person there if I could have the Managers Name, he was reluctant to give it to me so I asked him who serves the breakfasts, he informed me it was Netta and could he help, I informed him of the situation and said I never complain and if I treated my patients the why she treats hotel paying guests I wouldn't have any patients.
The next morning after I assume Edward had spoken to her she said good morning and asked if everything was ok, this lady if she does not wish to work due to covid 19 should stay at home, I work on the front line with patients and this was my first break in 5 months and she made it hard going as she was very rude and not friendly or welcoming to people.
I also spoke to another couple who said the breakfast situation was not on there website when they booked.
Front line Staff need to be more friendly and inviting Edward was the exception as he was and went out of his way to help.
I was very lucky and got a space right next to the hotel, popped into reception and was given a really nice friendly welcome. We were quite early so took a walk to Sovereign Harbour for the day, when we came back we checked in, again really helpful and friendly (the lad with curly hair who's name i should, but cant, remember!). When we got to the room (Room 4) we were quite honestly absolutely delighted. Lovely view looking out to sea with a balcony and huge doors and windows that open right up, really really nice. I guess the room itself is quite big and has recently been refurbished as everything is spotless and new looking inc. the huge bathroom. The bed was huge, easily the biggest bed i've ever slept in and comfortable too, the chandelier hanging from the high ceiling looked lovely and the huge mirrors really were in keeping with the room itself. I've added a few pictures of the room so you can judge for yourselves! The location of The East beach hotel is spot on. You can see the Pier from the balcony and it's at most a 5 minute (slow) walk from the hotel. Even though we had sea view room we heard no noise from the road outside as all the windows are brand new double glazing so with the windows closed you are still assured a great sleep. Breakfast the next morning was lovely, we went for the full English (as ya do when your on holiday!) and there was certainly no complaints from me.
A great hotel run by friendly staff in a great location. Top marks all round indeed.
This imposing building has many ornate features and furniture.as requesting in advance I was given an upper floor room accessed by stairs or lift.
I walked in to room 31 and fell in love with it. Light flooded into the room from the large windows. The large wooden furniture was very at home in the room and the table and two wing backed chairs allowed you to sit in comfort and watch the world go by.
The bed was huge and very comfortable. Clean, crisp linen.
Covid observation in place from the minute you walked through the door. Felt very safe. No restaurant due to covid. There is a lovely lounge with huge windows and ornate furniture.
Outside there is plenty of places to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
We had a lovely sleep and our takeaway breakfast was delivered to our room. We had tea, coffee, bacon sandwich, egg sandwich and croissants. All delivered with cutlery, paper plates and serviettes.
This hotel is fantastically placed for the sea and shopping and of course a wide range of restaurants.
Parking is however a problem. You can buy a £2 parking permit from reception. This allows you to park [if you can find anywhere) till 11 in the morning.
I cant praise the lovely friendly and helpful receptionist enough for making us feel so at home.
The hotel is set on the main stretch, literally 20 footsteps off the beach. We'll presented on the outside with lovely sitting areas to watch the stunning views of the sea & pier. Inside is fabulous too, all beautiful decorated with a conservatory style front, living room area with nice comfy sofas & chairs to relax in. Also inside the entrance is reception & some toilets aswell. The breakfast hall is a good side, well furnished & tables set out nicely.
Our room was on the 2nd floor. We had requested a Seaview, We were absolutely thrilled to be given room 7, a lovely big room with a balcony you could walk onto & the best views. You could lie in bed & watch the waves coming in & see the pier, what more could you ask for. The room had a queen sized bed, a table & two comfy chairs at the window & a walk in wardrobe. Too the left of the wardrobe is a door which inside has a very compact but good shower, door to right of wardrobe is the room containing toilet & sink, again very compact. The room also has bedside units, large chest of drawers, a TV, tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer & even a fridge(which was a godsend as we had the heatwave).
As part of our coach holiday, we were half board. Breakfast was waitress service. A choice of cereals, toast & a full English breakfast, all excellent quality & food perfectly. Evening meal, again waitress service & 3 course meal each night. They were the best hotel evening meals we've ever had. Ranging from Soups, Melon, Pate, roast beef, lamb & pork to salmon fillets, home made steak & mushroom pies, pudding & custards, gateau, cheeseboard & banana splits, the menu catered for every requirement.
We have to say a special thanks to Anetta who really looked after my hubby all week with his dietary requirements, making sure he was catered for & fed well (I hope you received the tip we left for you on our departure day). Also thanks to Amy & Glen, both excellent & looked after everyone.
We will definitely book with the East Beach again, it was truly a fantastic week & such a relaxing stay. Thanks again. 10/10
