The Hydro Hotel, Llandudno
The Hydro is of typical coach holiday standard, the building is probably from the Victorian era and located on the promenade convenient for all attractions.
In general the hotel was well decorated with good carpets and furniture.
The restaurant was large with high ceilings but the dining tables for two were very small especially when the condiment/tea tray was added.
We had no complaints about the food quality, it was all table service due to Covid restriction. Portion sizes were small if you were hungry.
Our bedroom had all the modern requirements e.g. en-suite, tea/coffee, tv, hairdryer etc., the hotel has free Wi-Fi throughout with good reception in the bedroom.
The bathroom had been newly replaced and tastefully tiled. There was plenty hot water with good water pressure.
There was no maid service to the rooms due to Covid restrictions, you could change towels by bagging the dirty linen and leaving it outside of your room ready to be exchanged, the same applied to the emptying of waste bins.
The evening entertainment is held on the lower floor in what they call the Ballroom, the quality of artist varied significantly from quite good to awful and you get the obligatory Bingo every night, this lasts from about 9-30pm until about 10pm. Entertainment and bar services stopped at 11pm.
Bar prices were reasonable and about what I’d expect for a hotel.
One problem that may affect the light sleeper are the Seagulls, from very early in the morning they start squawking very loudly, if you sleep with windows open this could be a problem.
If visiting Llandudno I would use this hotel again.

Upon arriving at the Hotel the reception area was very efficient and we received our room key promptly.
The room was large and airy and had a sea front view and was supplied with plenty of towels, even 2 beds. Bathroom was good albeit the shower cubicle was small, I am 5'10" and found it had to turn around. Minor complaint.
Getting to the room was not straight forward as once you left the lift you had to negotiate a small flight of stairs, if you attempted to walk from the lobby it was 5 flights of stairs.
The restaurant was quite large but we ha no complaints with the service provided.
The bar was small but there was plenty of room to sit and enjoy a drink.
The ballroom had a strange damp smell, where the entertainment was held. Possible from water damage but unsure.
If you are a smoker they do provide 2 tables outside the front of the Hotel facing the sea, adequate.
Overall the Hotel was very good and i would not hesitate to stay there again.

This hotel was good value for money, it is largely accommodated by the older generation. The walls are super thin we knew names of the old couple above from their randy shenanigans, Ron and Vera were very active from 10pm onwards. They gave us quite a show, it made our trip actually! Good on you on Ron! Beds very comfy, bit squeaky from upstairs but apart from that cracking experience.

Never been with Alpha travel before but as our usual company Shearing's went down earlier this year decided to try this company.
We went for 5 days on a self drive holiday but have to say it was the worst 5 days ever spent in a hotel anywhere.
The room we were given was a sea view twin which I had requested when I booked, cost us an extra £56 ,yes it was a sea view but you had to be either 6ft tall or stand up to see it,a sea view room should be one where you can sit on chairs to admire the view,to me this room was sold under false pretences.
The room had been cleaned but not to our standards & for saying we're in a pandemic everything should be squeaky clean,as my photos will show the radiator & window frames were in a disgraceful state, also the plug hole in the sink basin.
Now to the food ,what can I say, poor at best & if you were a big eater there was not enough on a plate to fill you,yes there were 3 courses but none of the courses were large enough to fill anybody, perhaps a child at a pinch.
One lift to service 200 rooms was not on ,because of covid only one room at once could use it
There was notices everywhere asking you to use masks when ever moving about the hotel, also plenty of hand sanitisers but not a lot used them.
We were not informed about ongoing building works before we booked, our room over looked the scaffholding & with it of course the noise.
Now to a couple of positives, the bedding was good quality & clean, good pillows but the quilts were very thin,2 night had to put my coat on the bed to get warm.
Best part about this hotel were the staff, right from the manager to the waiter/waitresses,absoloutely great they were ,so friendly ,couldn't do enough ,we were well looked after by them, they were all Eastern European & Spanish which says a lot.
The local people were most unfriendly ,will not be going back to Wales or travel anywhere with Alpha Travel.

Upon arrival at 7pm I found the car park full. parked on the road alongside the hotel but you would have thought it should be mentioned that the car park is small.

Also upon arrival I find that food serving finished at 7pm and there is no room service. Went out on the town looking for food instead.

Handed a coffee and tea pouch at reception. This is some bean counters idea of saving money, but it doesnt work. As I went out for food I didnt use any of the pouches and brought them home. If the contents were in the room I might have used a tea bag, a sugar and a milk but in effect I used all of it instead. Makes the hotel chain look cheap!!

Room was OK but then I asked for a sea view (and paid extra). It was clean and tidy

Winter weight duvet was not good and far too hot to sleep under so didnt get a good nights sleep

Situated on the promenade it was in a good position

Needs a refurb and change of attitude towards the guest before I would consider returning

Basically the room was very clean and had all the requirements of a hotel room. Came here for a holiday with my husband and would say uts ideal for a long weekend or short breakin llandudno if you are looking for a restful break.
The bed in the room was very comfy with comfortable pillows and duvet.
The shower worked well and was always hot.
Room service was good and during a 6 night stay towels and bedding were changed.
The only criticism was that the TV would pause so missed some of my favourite TV.
Telephone in the room to contact reception.
The hotel its self has a lift to all 4 floors a good size dining room which was pleasant to sit in. Service was good and the food was basic home cooked food but filling and adequate.
There is a good sized entertainments room and the bar is well kept and stocked with views out onto the sea front if required. There is no garden as such but there is seating out front if you want to sit outside.
Staff are polite although do not make their selves known to you unless you want to ask a question. The hotel is large and the decor fits with the age of the hotel. The room needs updating somewhat in terms of decoration but is perfectly functional and value for money. Came with Alpha coaches as part of a coach party to include several excursions.
This hotel is a little way from tbe shops and pier therefore, you need to be able to walk the 10 minutes it takes to get into town. However, there are seats all along the sea front for a rest should you need it. . It's in a quiet location and situated in a good place on the sea front.
There is an open top bus that can be caught near to the pier to get back from the town.
A nice place to stay for a short break or holiday and I would recommend this hotel to groups or couples.

This was our first stay in a hotel since Covid changed life and we were a little apprehensive. However my fiancee and I were impressed by the measures taken by the hotel staff. Distancing in the bar and breakfast room, sanitiser placed all around the hotel, staff wearing masks and visors and screens at reception. We felt as comfortable as anyone could expect.
It is an old building with it currently being updated, modernised and redecorated but this did not affect our comfort and use of facilities in anyway. In fact it was good to see that the owners of the hotel are investing in the place and restoring it to a grand condition which it obviously was in days gone by.
Our room was very clean with a comfortable bed and a modern bathroom. All the staff were very friendly and attentive with plenty of them to serve breakfast in a very efficient manner and in the evening table service at the bar was very good.
The breakfast choice was extensive with eveything you would expect from cereal, fresh fruit juice to a traditional full English.
All in all a good hotel stay and I will definitely come here again next time I stay in Llandudno.

We stayed at The Hydro for 5 days in May on a self drive package. We have stayed here many times before. Reading some of the reviews I wondered if this was the same Hotel! Hotel is spotlessly clean and all the staff very helpful. We arrived just after 4pm dropped off our cases and then parked the car in the large car park at the rear. There were already 3 coaches in but had no problem parking. The Hotel is in an excellent location opposite the promenade. It has recently had a refurbishment of the sun lounge and reception and bar area. Masks are worn while walking around the Hotel but can be removed on sitting in the bar area or restaurant. Due to the pandemic all Covid regulations are adherred to. We felt very safe and we were looked after very well. The food portions are not large but adequate and well cooked. Delivered on a tray to your table as were your cutlery and crockery etc. Our room on the first floor had a sea view and was a very large size. Lots of storage space. Beds very comfortable. Llandudno is a lovely resort and we would have no hesitation at staying at the Hydro again. No entertainment the week we stayed as this was not allowed by the Welsh Government. Usually entertainment at this Hotel is very good especially Joe Deacon who were were sorry to have not seen. The Hotel put on a Quiz Movie and bingo and did their best to keep guests entertained. A very well run and clean Hotel.

Arrived to find a very full car park no mention of limited parking on the website.
Booked room only but found dinner was an unappealing set menu served between 18:30 - 19:00 and no breakfast until 09:00. Not helpful when you have an early start planned.
Tea and coffee was in a paper bag.
There were no toiletries in the room.
It was clean and has just been refurbished however the customer service has a lot to be desired. At the hotels price points I was expecting a lot more.
Will not be back

We stayed for one week in the Hydro Hotel not sure what to expect when we booked but the price was good and the location second to none for touring north Wales.
The hotel is a large Victorian Hotel with a great atmosphere .
We found the staff to be kind and very eager to help you cannot ask for more. The main age group when we visited was mainly in the older bracket and a more fun bunch of people you will never meet so do not let this put you off.
The room we ( 207 ) had was spotless as was the shower and lavatory with a daily maid service.
The dining room is spacious and you are allocated your table for your stay and can choose a mixed table or a table for two. The food is good and plentiful with choices for each of the 3 courses . Breakfast is huge and as with all the meals if you ask for seconds it is instantly fetched for you it is encouraged for you to say if you would like more.
This hotel has a comfy bar and lounge a snooker table and nightly entertainment (after the bingo)
The Hydro is a great British traditional hotel and we loved it!
Final verdict I would highly recommend and will be booking again in the future.

The hotel mainly caters for coach parties and they are allocated specific times for breakfast and evening meal. If you are an independent non coach party visitor, it might be worth contacting the hotel direct and asking them .

The shower in my room 225 wouldn't have been suitable for disabled needs even though I'm mobile I had to ask for a shower safety mat as when I stepped out of it my foot slid a little, but there maybe rooms more suitable for you as there were quite a few people using walker's so I think there should be rooms with walk in showers .
