Wasn’t going to bother leaving a review as my husband already did however the response from one of the managers is laughable and clearly in keeping with the other similar style responses from them where guests dare to leave negative feedback. No acknowledgment of the issue says it all. For the record, I do understand what a pre-authorisation is. I was not happy that your husband had “pre-authorised” £165 instead of £50. On leaving I asked him to void it which he took umbrage to. I wanted it voided. It was your husband who stomped off and swore and indeed dropped the F word in annoyance. To your response: it was cheap and basic. We couldn’t even shower as the “airlock”lasted 18 minutes by which time we’d given up. The bed smelled and there were cobwebs and spiders. The hotel didn’t have anything to offer other than a smelly room and a shower that didn’t function. We didn’t even stay for breakfast. People pay to stay at your establishment. You ought to listen and acknowledge all of their feedback rather than ignoring genuine comments and sweeping it under the carpet and responding in a snarky manner.

Last minute booking for Sat7th Oct. Double room, £152. We have stayed at nicer hotels, it’s basic but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. However, we’ve never stayed at a hotel where the manager has been this rude. Following the way the manger communicated on check out I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again under any circumstances, be warned. At check in we had a pre authorisation placed on a credit card of £160 (after being told the charge was £50). It was queried and the manager said he’d return in full the next day at check out. Come check out we requested the cancelation £160 pre auth and the manger became loud, shouty and started dropping the f bomb. We didn’t complain about anything, we only asked for the £160 pre auth to be cancelled before we checked out. Our room was cheap & basic, had a bit of a stuffy smell, a few too many spiders and cobwebs and the shower took 18 to clear an air lock before water ran. Breakfast is continental (not full English) and finished at 9.30am on a Sunday, pretty early if you’ve had a late Sat night.

Response from joanne hankins, General Manager at Grovefield Manor
Responded 11 Oct 2023
Hello to the keyboard warrior !! You know yourself, that this is somewhat bending all truths as to what actually happened. The truth is that you didn't understand what a pre authorisation was, and I would certainly never use the f word to anyone ,so thank you for that !!! Yes we do a Continental buffet breakfast, plus choices from the kitchen which the majority of our clients love. Also it does actually state that we do this on all Web sites. I'm sorry to hear that you thought your room was cheap and basic ! Never heard that before about our beautiful boutique hotel, with every room being tastefully decorated with the best quality fixture and fittings. May I suggest, before you go on line to book your next trip away you actually read what the hotel has to offer . Happy travels.

Location is good and the Managers staff were very friendly. We were met by the manager on arrival who asked why we hadn’t answered a email about twin beds or double beds. I stated we hadn’t received the email and he spoke over me and obviously didn’t believe me. He said we should’ve booked direct and saved £50. Not a good greeting really. On leaving at 7am this Morning, we didn’t want to leave our key on the desk and as there was no key box we rang the bell as the sign specified. The Manager Chris arrived to announce “ I do need to sleep you know and that nobody has rang the bell that early in 9 years” totally spoilt our stay this man. I also don’t understand the 5 stars on his board outside as all this is, is bed and continental breakfast. So sad as his staff had the manners he was lacking. Won’t be returning ever £490 through Expedia. The pub around the corner would have been a better choice

Hotel very nice, room small but very clean and lots of attention to detail . Staff very friendly. Breakfast is continental but lots of choice . But the best thing about hotel is the location. On Bus route , walk through chine opposite to beach . Walk into Westbourne for restaurants or there is a pub down the road

This is a lovely family run hotel. We were greeted by Chris and check in was easy and friendly. Our room was spotless and very comfy. We enjoyed the continental breakfast with hot options of porridge, crumpets , toast and muffins . It was a great location. Close to beach and promenade walks to Sandbanks and Bournemouth. Easy walk in to Westbourne. Bus stop right outside. It’s a real bonus to have car parking space on site. We are so pleased we have found this hotel and plan to return in 2024.

Excellent hotel with friendly management. Rooms comfortable and spotless. Coffee, tea, chocolate provided. Able to park throughout stay. Easy access to beach from hotel with 10min walk. Bus access by ferry to Swanage. Beware one or two rooms are quite small. We were disappointed that there was only continental breakfast, but that was well stocked with juices, meat, fruit, cereals and toast/ crumpets. But no bread rolls for meats/ cheeses. Book direct for a better deal.

The Grovefield Manor is an immaculate hotel spotlessly clean within 5 minutes walk of the beach in Poole. Very comfortable and elegant rooms kept at a good temperature. Family owned and run. Very quiet. Friendly staff. Breakfast includes a wide range of tasty cold food plus hot porridge. Highly recommended.

Booked the Grovefield Manor last minute on Booking. com. £144.00 for 2 nights The reviews looked good, bar a couple. Arrived early, but wasn't a problem. First impressions very good. Had asked on Booking.com for a room with a walk in shower, Chris the owner said we could have one but it was a suite which was at a higher rate. We didn't and it wasn't a problem as the ensuite in our room had a very low bath, so not a problem getting in and out of. The room was very nice, very clean, good decor and had all you could need for a few days break. Most important for me tea and coffee facilities. A comfortable bed and a nice size bathroom with toiletries supplied, which were very nice. Lovely soft towels and even flannels which you dont always get . Breakfast was good, continental but plenty to eat. Choice of cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, croissants, Toast, orange juice, cheese, cold meats, jams, honey and tea and coffee. We normally have a cooked breakfast while we're away, but this was lovely and filled us up to well into the afternoon. Chris was very helpful with surrounding area and they had a factsheet with recommendations for where to eat. We tried 2 of them The Inn inthe Park. A Pub, Just down the road, which had a jazznight. Food and service very good average price. The Cliff. Another pub, very tastefully decorated. Food tasty and again reasonble. We asked Chris' daughter ( sorry didn't get your name ) how to get to different places and she was very helpful as well. Hotel in a great position to get to different places without driving too far. Right across the road a pleasant 5 min walk down to the beach. Went into Poole town the 2nd day , walked from there to Poole Quay and had lunch. All in all a wonderful 3 day break

Lovely Hotel, we stayed overnight in January and was met with a warm friendly welcome by the Manager Chris, he was attentive and gave us lots of information about the local area. The hotel is situated close to the lovely sandy beach and about a kilometre’s walk into Bournemouth Centre. It was very clean hotel and our room was warm and well stocked with tea/coffee and bathroom products. Breakfast was continental and lots of choice and even had Gluten Free cereal and toast. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to our return.
