Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The stunning location is a great start, right on the beach with lovely views. The great customer service was constant throughout. A lovely room and lots of food choices at breakfast while overlooking the sea.

After reading some reviews on TA - I was a little worried about our booking. we were pleasantly surprised as everything was perfect (apart from the dreadful weather conditions). Yes, the hotel is a little tired but for value for money it was everything we wanted. We had a fabulous sea view room with balcony - hope we can book that room again. The very young staff were happy, friendly, courteous, helpful and worked hard to ensure we had a good stay. The room was clean and spacious - the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and helpful staff. Our only critism if there is one was a little disappointed with the Amalfi restaurant. For the same total of the bill we went to a well known restaurant and had a much better meal for quality, service, ambience etc. Cannot wait to return - but hopefully, next time the hotel can book the weather for us lol

We were excited to be revisiting Sandbanks Hotel having enjoyed many breaks there in the past, both summer and winter. When we had tried to book earlier in the year they were closed for updating, so that was a promising sign. Now having had a two night stay (during the September 2023 heatwave) I am not at all sure what was updated. First impressions? as you enter, a huge but completely cloudy statement fish tank. A friendly greeting from the receptionist, which was the last eye contact we had for the rest of the stay. We were told the lift was out of order and made our way to our second floor room via the staircase, luckily no problem for us. The room was the plainest and least decorative room I have ever seen. Large, clean, depressingly out of date, horrible shower curtain over the bath scenario (it clung to your arm when you showered!), really terrible artwork - photos of a trawler, was it?? - and situated right next to the merrily motoring air conditioning/extractor for the restaurant. We asked at reception to see if there might be an alternative room. They unhelpfully just confirmed that this room and the one below were indeed next to the fans!? and stated that they 'go off at 9.30'. All without looking at us or offering perhaps an apology or even a complimentary drink..? In fact it chugged on until 10.20, so an early night in the wonderful heat was sadly with the windows shut. We got up early - that weather! - and were looking forward to a long delicious Sandbanks breakfast. It was very disappointing, very basic - probably the first buffet hotel English breakfast that we have found inedible. Even the toaster burnt the toast, and worst of all was the coffee from an automatic machine which was only warm, and tasteless. My heart is heavy as I say all this. How can this be done so wrong? The greeting as we entered the dining room was eyes down to tick us off the list and a charmless 'sit where you want'. We didn't chance eating at the hotel apart from the breakfast after that experience - if you mess up a croissant you can't be trusted with a proper meal. It feels as if there is a lack of training, leadership and customer care coming from the top. Even what has been built in the garden (the pizza place?) ridiculously comes between the restaurant where we breakfasted and the sea view. You couldn't make it up. I'm so sorry that after such wonderful memories of this hotel, over nearly 30 years, this will be our last stay. The two stars are for the exceptional location on the beach and bay. They couldn't mess that up.

Loved our 2 night stay in a balcony sea view room. Fantastic location! The staff were very friendly and helpful and checked us in early as the hotel was not fully occupied the day we arrived. This is not a modern hotel and sure there were a few things like a bathroom door that sticks (room 226) and a slowly leaking bath plug, BUT the bed was fantastically comfortable, the room was so spacious and light with comfortable furniture and plenty of storage, toiletries, wide tea selection, coffee, hot choc, biscuits. Even quality, quilted loo rolls and thick, fluffy towels. And a bidet for goodness sake. Waking up to that view every morning - wow! Comfortable balcony furniture made it a great place to watch the waves. Breakfast was great - lovely quality and plenty of choice. Parking was easy and plentiful . Ideally situated for catching the ferry to Studland Shell Bay (try a luxe seafood lunch at The Shell Restaurant). Also easy to drive into Poole Quay and catch a boat trip around the harbour islands. Wish we’d stayed longer. Unfortunately it looks like planning permission is being sought to tear down all this hotel chains Poole properties and build residential apartments - so sad to think such an iconic hotel will be lost.

Relying on the Sandbanks location as the hotel lacks finesse. They have currently run out off ALL draught lagers and, although they have customers requesting them they are refusing to restock. First and last visit for us

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your stay apart from the hotel not stocking the particular lager that you were looking for on draught. We always have a variety of lager available including our main lager which is ALWAYS available on draught. We also have guest lagers that come and go. At the time of your stay, we had a lager, a cider and an ale available on draught, alongside a variety of bottled lagers and ciders. I do recall that we also went out and specifically bought your particular requested lager in bottles for you. You were not interested or in any way thankful for the staff going the extra mile to try to locate your particular lager. So, I thank you for your feedback. I do hope the lack of a particular alcoholic beverage didnt completely ruin your stay.

We did this trip for my mums 89th birthday weekend. When we read the reviews we were quite disappointed. But nevertheless we still came along. The hotel the staff were excellent our room was amazing and as for the restaurant food top class could not fault at all. The only downside to the hotel was the breakfast could of been a bit more choice but we still enjoyed. Finally we will definitely be coming back next year to see the Refurb finished. Looking forward to next May
