Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We have been staying with Andrew at the Balmoral once or twice a year for over a decade now and we are yet to be disappointed. The rooms are well equipped, immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. Breakfast is cooked or continental as you prefer, and Andrew is extremely helpful in catering for any dietary requirements. He and his team are always polite and helpful and make us feel so comfortable that it honestly feels like a home away from home. Looking forward to our next visit already. :)

Absolutely amazing. The minute I waked through the door Andrew was so welcoming and show a real interest in my stay. The room was extremely comfortable and even though it was a shared bathroom it caused no problems at all. Finally the full english breakfast was sublime, service was impeccable and check out was a doddle. I will definitely be staying again the next time I am in town. Thank you Andrew.

My brother and I stayed here for two nights recently, 9th/10th August. What a lovely place. Andrew, the proprietor was so friendly and welcoming and nothing was a bother for him. The room was 10/10, the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, the room exceptionally clean and well equipped. My brother's room was the same. Unfortunately we didn't have our evening meals there as we were on a family get together trip but I had breakfast both mornings and it was delicious. A very good selection/choice that catered for all needs. Good communication from Andrew on the many times I'd emailed him. We will certainly be staying there again. Thank you Andrew.

We were in Darlington for a concert and needed somewhere to stay without breaking the bank. Balmoral was ideal, it's about 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre and easy to find. The house is a tardis like classic house with some great period features. My single room was a bit tired but really comfortable and very clean. Only improvement would have been some blackout curtains for the light mornings. No ensuite but a bathroom right next door and some rooms might have their own bathroom,. We had an excellent breakfast for only £7.50 each. Super high quality food, delicious and well presented so don't miss this. All-in all a great stay with a very friendly host (Andrew). Would highly recommend and if I'm in Darlington again will definitely be back.

Andrew was very friendly and helpful, our room was very clean and spacious with plenty of storage space. We had a very good night's sleep in a comfy bed and breakfast was lovely. The pancakes were very nice and it was nice to have an alternative to a full English breakfast. Will definitely use again if in the area.

Loved it!! Beautiful building, great location and the proprietor is so kind and friendly. The town is a short walk away and the train station a 23 minute walk (quicker without luggage). I wish I had gotten up early enough for the £5 breakfast on offer but the bed was comfy enough I snoozed that alarm!

Had a very pleasant 1 night stay at the Barmoral Guest house. Andrew the host is great and very accommodating, he picked us up from the station and made us feel very welcome. Our room was nice and spacious with a huge bathroom. The guest house is about a 10 min walk into town where there is lots of shops, bars and restaurants. The breakfast was lovely freshly cooked by the host and the homemade pancakes looked delicious. Overall a nice friendly guest house and would stay again . Thank you Andrew.

Had a lovely quiet , cosy , warm night here. Had a free upgrade to en suite, staff were great. Missed out on breakfast though as I'd had a massive meal the night before. Very clean and welcoming. Good communication from staff. Bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed my morning coffee.

I stayed here for 3 weeks, was really really happy with my stay. A worker by the name of (Kelly) helped significantly with my room being super clean and was tidied daily, also laundry was done for me at a great standard. Breakfast was superb and trust me make sure you try the coffee. Lastly every night it was quiet and I enjoyed a peaceful sleep
