Managed to find a good price, booking direct with the hotel. Although I did find the charge for breakfast, at £12.50 pp, a bit steep, it is actually very good value for money based on the good quality ingredients, and choice of products. The room, a king double, had ample space along with a decent shower and bath. Fresh milk, in the in-room fridge, was also a nice touch, as opposed to those awful plastic jiggers you normally find on a tea tray. Location wise, very good and close to amenities we were visiting. We would definitely return!

The car park is a bit tight, especially if you have a very large car, but the system works well at £5 per day.

The room was small with fittings on a par with Ibis / other budget hotels. The bathroom was very nice with a shower over a bath with plenty of hot water and toilet paper. The room was clean and pleasant. It was one of the hottest weekends of the year and it would have helped to have the curtains closed all day as the sun shone directly into the room. The room had a fridge which was handy for chilling water and the hotel provided 'proper' milk in a little milk bottle in the fridge. The only complaint was the softness of the mattress which gave my partner a back problem. Also, more decaffeinated tea and coffee in the room would have been appreciated.

The breakfast was very good, although you had to order it the day before if having the full English. Well presented and plentiful. Need to ask for milk alternatives, but quickly provided with soya when requested. the dinner menu is interesting and the 'early bird' menu is also good. Sampled both and enjoyed both, although the Cajun Cod was a little too spicy for me.

All the staff was friendly and patient and willing to help make your stay memorable.

The location was great for the event we were attending and for investigating Taunton. We would probably stay again, but opt for a slightly larger room.

I appreciate your thorough review of your stay. Yes the car park is a bit tight and it is good you flagged again as it helps other guests who read the reviews. I will look into the mattress and usually they are not that soft so it may be time to renew. Thank you for staying with us.

20 of us stayed for 3 nights playing golf locally to the hotel. They were easy to deal with when booking even with COVID regulations and we organised our presentation night eating at their restaurant on the Sunday evening.
Location for Taunton is ideal for strolling into town and all the restaurants they recommended were perfect for our party. Rooms were adequate maybe some a little small but for the purposes of a clean, great location hotel this takes some beating.
Staff were 100% attentive to our needs and pleasant throughout our stay.
The meal we had on Sunday was perfect for a large group, and great value for money.
I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Taunton or surrounding region

The only downside ( and I am being very picky) was the size and spaces in car park.. but that apart top value for money and pleasant stay... thanks to Rachel and her team.. Rob

I had stayed here on and off for a few months from February 2021 to around July 2021 usually from Mondays to Thursdays.

Ill start with Location. The reason I stayed here was because of the close proximity to Musgrove Park Hospital which is literally 5-10 mins walk, it is also close to a couple of supermarkets and a fair amount of Restaurants.

The rooms themselves were not the greatest. most of the rooms are different which is normal in an older building but some seem to be crammed in and some are just huge and feel vast even within the same rates, some rooms have fridges/larger TVs/sofas. Most of the rooms dont have anywhere close to the bed to charge your phone/laptop so you end up stretching your cable as far as possible or just not using your device which I know is a very 21st century problem but one that is annoying. When we first arrived the free Wifi was not working and we were told to connect to password protected wifi which was ok, enough to watch videos/tv and do work.

There were two major problems with the rooms though, both being Hygiene related. The first is that the rooms had clearly not had a deep clean in a long time as every room I stayed in was dusty and even in areas that you would think should be cleaned pretty often. the second problem was that myself and colleagues had brown water coming from the bath and sometimes the sink on several occasions. This wasn't a case of not being used much over covid as each of us experienced this in the same rooms several times over.

Parking seemed to be plentiful and worked on a token basis. As I was staying for work this was covered on my booking so I am not sure how much it cost.

The food was good but I think (due to staff shortages maybe) there was a lot of problems with our breakfast coming cold and late which was not helpful when we often ordered our breakfast at a certain time in order to eat and be out for work. On one occasion one of my colleagues ended up with another persons breakfast just placed outside their room without even a knock at the door. We at times werent offered cooked breakfast as too many people in the hotel had booked one though it didnt seem that busy.
The bar was very good with an interesting range of drinks and a nice outdoor seating area.

The corner house hotel definitely has potential to be a really good hotel but it needs renovating and more emphasis on cleaning before it is considered a nice hotel to stay at. I was fine staying here for work but I would not stay here otherwise.

Dear Jack Sitting here now in November I am casting my mind back to the days of Covid and the numerous restrictions we had to work with. From doing Room Service Only plus not being able to enter bedrooms and the list went on. We were only able to re-open properly on July 19th. Obviously I hope we do not have to return to those days again.

Dear Reader ,we are Devon Guest house owners and I was due to have an operation at the local hospital in Taunton Somerset in February.
My wife wanted to stay over whilst I had my operation,so we searched trip advisor reviews to find a suitable place.
We being in the same business look beyond just websites for accommodation and read all reviews on places of interest to us.
The corner house was just a short walk to the Hospital so it this was the obvious choice, but we were slightly deterred by some of the negative comments posted by previous guests.
Of course one can never please everyone and whilst the corner house did have many excellent reviews, there were a few poor ones that worried us.
So we called the manager and expressed our concerns.
He was open and frank with us addressing our concerns and impressed us so much that we booked and was given a very competitive rate.
I had my operation in February and my wife spent three nights at the Corner house and was very happy with the standards of accommodation.
So therefore we as guest house owners our selves can unreservedly recommend the Corner house Taunton and if you call them ask for Carlos the manager.

We stayed at the The Corner House Hotel as part of a road trip staying in Taunton, Plymouth and Worcester, and I must say this was the worst hotel we had.

THE ROOM (King Double) – Very small room which was extremely hot. They did supply a fan but it was very noisy and all that did was move the hot air around the room. The sash window mechanism was broken , unable to hold up more than a few inches using the bolt attached., so couldn’t get any fresh air in to the room. Due to the heat it was very difficult to sleep.
The shower cubicle drain was slow to drain away, so you could only have a very quick shower before it overflowed and flooded the room.

DINNER. We had prebooked dinner and were looking forward to a nice meal. Unfortunately, it didn’t start well, we were one of the first couples in the restaurant but lots of other people who came in and ordered after us were served before us, we were basically ignored. Unfortunately, when the food came it wasn’t very good. My wife had the carbonara which was stodgy and bland. I had the gammon which was over cooked, dry and tough. We didn’t bother with desert as I don’t expect it would have been any better. When we complained to the waitress she did take the carbonara off the bill.

BREAKFAST

Because we had booked the previous night, we decided to give them another chance despite the experience the night before. Big mistake, yet again people who came in after us were served before us. The waitress got our order wrong bringing scrambled egg instead of poached and when we finally had it after a long wait the bacon was overcooked, hard and dry. To top it off when we had finished the waitress asked if we would like any toast, a bit late at the end of the meal.

On checking out, the person on reception asked how our visit had been, but he didn’t seem interested when we told him, his tone was very indifferent, just wanting payment.

All in all not recommended and we won’t be going back.

Dear Druid I am not sure nowadays how many people read Tripadvisor reviews, the number we receive having fallen over recent years, but I have had a policy of responding personally to all of them. There are 2 responses to your review that I could write, the first that apologised for the shortcomings you experienced during your stay and akin to a Samurai metaphorically fall on my sword. The standard big corporate response that is insincere and just written to placate the powers that be or the one that I feel really represents your experience with us. I feel it only respectful to write the second. Our customers like us have good days and bad days and others see the world with a half glass full view, whilst others see it with a half glass empty view. Some guests are out to enjoy themselves whilst other are just staying as they have to work and all of these factors make our job interesting and of course challenging. 2 guests can sleep in the same room and one will say the bed is wonderful whilst another will say it was awful, the same goes for dinner and breakfast. Was your visit with us 5 star, certainly not but I feel your view is not the half glass full one. You did complain at dinner but some of this quite frankly was unjustified and the staff on the night removed the charge for the meal. You pre-ordered breakfast and booked a table for 08.00 but came down early and the staff went out of their way to seat you early. Not surprising people that who had ordered breakfast for 07.45 got theirs before somebody who ordered it for 08.00 (you received this at 08.02) and to top it off were rude to the member of staff concerned. On checking out you were asked how your stay was and immediately brought up the fact that there was not enough rocket salad on top of your carbonara, and when questioned if you had mentioned this the night before you confirmed you had and that they had even removed this from your bill. One would have thought that this had resolved the issue. As I said there is a bit of Ying and Yang when customers have a negative outlook all to often this is reciprocated by staff no matter how hard they try to smile. Therefore I would have said a 3 star review would have been fair as, yes it was hot and the window should have been able to open fully and the shower tray should have drained away quicker, perhaps on the day there were minor faults in certain dishes but I think you were having a bad day as well. I note that you will not be recommending us or be returning which from my side is a shame because if you had approached me direct in a positive manner I feel the positive nature of this would been reciprocated to our mutual benefit. Regards Carlos

I have been staying at the Corner House regularly over the past year for work. It’s a lovely hotel with comfortable rooms and lots of lovely little touches. What makes this hotel excellent is the brilliant staff team. Always welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and they really do go the extra mile. From greeting me by name, to making sure things like a thin duvet is available, posting a letter when I didn’t have time, spotlessly clean rooms the list goes on.

Many thanks for the care and kindness, I will keep coming back!

I have just returned from another stay in the Corner House with family and what a gem this hotel is. Check in was smooth and efficient. It is always immaculately clean in this hotel, but with the present situation the cleaning has clearly been stepped up with constant cleaning of surfaces and an attention to detail by all the staff that makes the guest feel totally secure. My rooms on arrival were absolutely spotless.
The food here is the very best, tasty breakfasts and dinners which are served by lovely staff who are extremely friendly and go out of there way to make sure you are happy - nothing is too much trouble. This is my first choice whenever I am in Taunton!

I have had to travel to Taunton for work during the Covid pandemic, and experience of the chains hasn't been so great elsewhere and the choice in Taunton isn't spectacular on that front, so I chose this on price and location.

Its very reasonably priced even before you actually find out what a gem it is, and after, well.....! The location is also good so that getting a decent walk in the morning or evening isn't a chore.

The first time I stayed was during the Tier system, so breakfast and evening meals were in the restaurant, and well controlled under the restrictions. I raved over Breakfast for days until my wife took the mickey out of my Covid paunch! The evening meal was great as well.

I have stayed two further times since then, and each time is as good- all of the staff are friendly and helpful; covid controls are great and the breakfast and evening meals delivered to the room way better than any of the chain hotels have managed to deliver during my covid travels, and before then as well!

The rooms are a little small and could do with a spring spruce, but they are functional and comfortable and for the price, I'm not sure that you could expect more anyway.

I will be stopping here for the duration of my project, and in fact, checking out tomorrow is quite upsetting- apart from my wife, going home has little attraction when this place is so nice.

My wife and I stayed on Saturday using a deal which included a bottle of prosecco, dinner and breakfast, which was excellent value.
From the first contact via email I found the staff friendly and extremely helpful.
We stayed in a large king room which had plenty of space and an on suite bathroom.
The bottle of prosecco was enjoyed in their garden before a short walk into the town before dinner.
Tables were well spaced out and food and drink delivered in a safe manner.
Evening meal was excellent as was the breakfast the following morning.
A nice touch was the complementary hand sanitizer bottles at reception.
We both look forward to a return visit in the future.
