Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is a shame that the smallest thing can mar an otherwise excellent experience. It was our wedding anniversary and we were booked in for two nights and had booked dinner for the first night. Before I explain the title of my review I must say that the hotel was very clean, the room small but as expected and certainly clean, the staff were (almost) without exception very pleasant and helpful, so what was the "blot" on the horizon. The restaurant was cosy and welcoming, we had booked for 1800 hrs arrived 10 minutes early and were shown to our table by a gentleman who said he was the manager, again very pleasant and helpful - thus far. The menu was not overly inviting with, to be frank, not too much choice. My wife ordered as a starter the lingoustines listed at £12-00 on the menu, when they arrived ( a very anorexic looking "duo~"I have to say) one of the pair was black inside, my wife left this and its very thin, but refreshingly white"partner" and moved on to the main course which was as expected, not exciting but no complaints. When the waitress cleared the table we showed her the offending crustecean and she took it for the attention of the chef. When she returned she had memorised some of an amazing lesson in marine biology related to her by the afforementioned chef whom I can only assume is an expert in the field. Apparently some of these expensive little blighters undergo a change when passing eggs through the system, the eggs get stuck and are absorbed into the flesh thus turning it black. Wonderful - duly enlightened we finished our meal, and then to cap it all the manager came to our table and asked if everything was ok, yes we said just apart from the little matter of our biologically challenged langoustine, after relating the response from the waitress his only comment was "well I've learn't something" That was it, what he needs to do, is when he asks his customers if everything is all right, at least pretend to mean it. Anyway apart from that, everything was fine and we enjoyed our stay, We decided to eat elsewhere on the second night and whilst we would stay at the hotel again, we would not eat there. I should add, the breakfast was also excellent.

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and I know the Whisky Macs. Apology for the mishandling of your 'complaint' as I misinterpreted as I thought you were happy and just relaying the story.

We visited the restaurant as non- residents. Whilst initially it wasn't that welcoming we ended up having a lovely evening. The food was really tasty, the service was good - not too fast or too slow. We had three courses all of which were delicious. A sharing charcuterie platter to start (the best baked camembert ever), then I had a plaice dish and my husband had a steak, both were really good. A Paris brest and affogato topped it off nicely. This is a great little hotel restaurant and well worth a visit.

Stayed here 2 nights last weekend. Hotel has lots of character gothic arches and a Bordeaux Wine theme in the restaurant. All staff were excellent very helpful and accommodating. We had dinner in the restaurant on Friday night, food and service were very good. Wine list is short but very well curated, we tried the Rioja Reserva which was lovely and great value. Rooms are basic but very comfortable. My only small criticism would be as it's a very old house (guessing 1860?), there are squeeky floor boards everywhere on the first floor, we had Room 10 which was along a route to most of the other rooms in the hotel, we found it was noisy at night as other people were heading back to their rooms. Otherwise great value for money and a lovely stay thank you.

Recently returned from a 2 night stay on a Travelzoo deal and have no complaints whatsoever. The hotel rooms are basic but with all the amenities you need. A real plus was a fridge with real milk for your morning coffee, although the instant coffee was pretty awful! Breakfast was good but only filter coffee available, no other coffees were available as far as I know. The evening meal was really good and the staff polite and attentive. It was excellent value for money and if anyone needs to stay in the Taunton area then this hotel is highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay with the Corner House Hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived early and whilst our room was not yet ready they very helpfully found us another room so that we could freshen up before attending a funeral. The accommodation is very good value and the breakfast excellent. I would certainly recommend them for a stay in the centre of Taunton.

We visited as a table of 5 for a midweek dinner and didn't stay in the hotel. The food was reasonably priced considering the quality and portion sizes, and was easy to choose from a small refined seasonal menu. The dining area was well decorated - we were particularly enthralled by the wine box design on our table! Staff were friendly and attentive, providing great service throughout our visit. Recommend visiting for a restaurant visit!

I have stayed at Cornerhouse a few times before. What went well: Booking Lovely reception staff helpful and smiley- Lent me an umbrella Large room Hot hot shower! Delicious breakfast Mini fridge and milk provided for making tea/coffee No charge for car park! Even better if: Arrived Christmas Eve Really wanted a toasted sandwich with my coffee but was told in no uncertain terms by an unsmiling man: We're only doing Sunday lunch Ridiculous considering the place was virtually empty! Why not offer a few snacks?
