Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As a contractor I have racked up some experience staying in B&B's, budget hotels, independents and chains. So i've a lot to compare this too and the past 2 years have been in and around Sheffield / Rotherham. So lets begin.

The rooms smell "foisty", just old, dusty and poorly kept. The bedding smelt the same but more noticeable. Second thing I noticed was that the windows didn't shut very well (old latch shut) one loose. When trying to warm the place up there is only the radiators which seem to be on a timed system so once it was off, it was off.

The bathroom is basic but poor. Hot water yes but the shower apparatus was useless, the mixer loose and the water pressure non existent. Add to that the towels were changed once in 4 nights and a bath handle was missing.

The bed itself is a good size but the mattress feels as if it is just a thick old material base. There is no spring it it, just lumpy and soft - not good for your back. Oh and the walls are paper thin - every night I listen to my neighbor talk to his wife on the phone and then in the morning I wake before my alarm goes off because I hear his phone vibrating on the wooden side table.

There it ends. I've certainly been in dirtier places but that's as good as I can say unfortunately.

Also the "hotel" out front isn't. That's because it's "under renovation" apparently. I remember reading this long ago. No works seem to be going on however unless the owners are having their home done because the "motel" to the back is certainly not being renovated and no guests are staying in the front building. I find this dishonest.

We arrived around 1300hrs, and were met at reception by a friendly chap, he checked us in took our payment and told us due to refurbishment we were in the annex at the rear of the hotel. I then asked about meals and was told breakfast could not be supplied due to the refurb. No alternative places were offered. We went to our room and found it to be clean and comfortable and suitable for our needs. My only complaint would be that the bed linen needed ironing. We went to check out the next morning , no one on reception, just a metal mail box outside the building where we had to leave the key so we were unable to make any comment on our stay or accommodation. Would we stay again, not in it's present state, I felt £40 for a double room without any restaurant facilities was a little excessive.

Arrived on Monday for one night only to be told the hotel was closed for renovations and myself and a colleague were staying in an annex at the rear of the building - looked like a 70s building from the outside and as it turned out, from the inside too - on asking what time breakfast was served we were asked 'can you hear that, that's the kitchen being renovated, we don't serve breakfast'. Stating that we had booked breakfast and had been charged for it, we were then told 'perhaps your booking says breakfast but it's wrong'. On the plus side the room was clean but that the only real plus point. Won't be back

I’ve stayed here 5 times this time I had no hot water I told the manager I was told it takes 10 minutes to heat up I was told there no hot water for 4 days so can’t shower for for 4 days or heat they did bring a small heater. I asked for money back the hotel refused. The hotel has gone down hill since June I had to ask for more tea and given 3 bags to last 5 days and 2 toilet rolls. Room not cleaned since I’ve been here.my room stinks of cigarettes smoke and the towels have a smell of cigarettes as well. There rubbish in the car park of old wardrobe and other stuff from bedrooms there is also stuff at top of stairs. This place should be shut down now I own a bed breakfast I’m Disgusted the way I’ve been treated by this hotel If this is how they treat a regular how do they treat our guess This is the last time I’ll be coming to this hotel is a dumb

More accurately described as Brecon Rooms on google maps and the not Brecon Hotel as the sign details on the approach to the property or as described by booking.com

This is certainly not a hotel, it is a property offering rooms / accommodation, as there is no open bar or restaurant, nor do they offer breakfast, so it cannot be a hotel in my opinion.

Having said that the rooms are comfortable, clean, in good decorative order and I had a good quiet night’s sleep in the annexe building.

Located on the outskirts of Rotherham on a direct bus route to / from the town centre and the railway / bus interchange station. There is also ample free car parking on site.

There is a Tesco Express opposite, handy for breakfast items.

The reception and welcome was okay yet expect nothing more from the staff or management, they cannot be bothered to say goodbye, you leave your key in a letterbox

Offering good value for money when I stayed … I can recommend these rooms just do not expect any of the normal amenities that a hotel would normally offer such as a bar and restaurant

STAY AWAY!!!! A dirty heroine needle and lighter was found in the back of the bed side cabinet in the twin room, contacted reception and no one was there, tried the owners number that was provided on booking.com and no response. So we pack our bags and go and knock on the receipt door that was looked. A lady related to the owner came we explained to her what we found and she didn’t care just said ahh ok. We have had to change hotel and this hotel will not refund our money, don’t help this hotel and hopefully they have to close for good as they don’t care about the people that stay there.

Despite the negative reviews I found the hotel pleasant . Very clean , think most people who leave a bad review are used to the ritz or something , what more can you expect from a 50quid a night hotel . Would defo book here again for the price . Great location

I first stayed at the Brecon to attend a colleagues leaving do nearby, the hotel main building is undergoing complete renovation to restore it to its former glory as a top establishment in Rotherham. I stayed in the newer annex building which was comfortable, warm, good facilities including free wi-fi and the general manager Mr.Azad Yousaf could not have been more helpful, I am back here on business and booked straight back in to the Brecon, reasonable price for a lot of service. I look forward to the opening of the refurbished main building to which I will make a point of attending

I stayed here for one week. The accommodation is good; the quality/price is well deserved.
I am from outside UK and whenever I needed some information the guy on reception help me alot.
The room was clean and tidy, internet is working good, good heating system and most important the hotel area it’s very quiet.
I will be pleased to come here again.
