Having stayed at the George for 2 years in row for business, I have seen the rooms deteriorate with time. The central heating is broken therefore it gets unbearable hot in the evenings with no way of controlling this. Floorboards are very squeaky and the walls are so thin that you can hear everything from the neighbouring rooms. Staff do...

The website says the hotel is 500 years old but I feel the owners should have spruced it up a little since it was built. It looks a little tired and could really do with a renovation. Staff are very nice particularly the bar staff. Nice central place to stay too, right near the shops and the castle.

I had a small double room which was very small. Being an old building everything creeks, especially the plumbing and the floor boards. I had to pay £10 extra for breakfast, which was good but service was slow. Parking is also £10 per night unless you are staying for a few nights. Very good location but decor a bit tired.

At first sight the interior look a trifle bland and the whole place would benefit from a face lift. However this is a quirky hotel and the dated decor and squeaky floor boards add a little je ne sais quoi! The place has ambiance in abundance and one half expects to run in to a ghostly presence! Our room was...

I have no fault with the George other then that. For a 700 year old coaching inn in the city Centre that's been expanded over the years to do banquets etc, it's pretty much what it says on the tin. You have to expect some wiggliness. My wife and I had a laugh about how the floor in our room...

We stayed on 23 Dec for 1 night. The staff were exeptionally polite and friendly. Our room was quaint and quirky with a large comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean but was in need of upgrading. I thought that the uneven floor and creaking floorboards added to the charm. If you are looking for a brand new corporate style hotel...
