This place is not as absolutely abhorrent as others may make it seem. It's far from good but you won't die after staying for one night! I stayed here merely out of convenience as it was 50 metres from a course venue early on a Friday morning! Unless it is for this reason I would not recommend staying here, the...

I always read reviews with a tinge of scepticism and feel that places can't be all that bad. (I've been to places where people have rated hotels poorly yet I thought they were great) In this case it's all true. The hotel is depressing, dusty, outdated, drab and dowdy. I feel that the whole place needs to be closed and...

Dreadful grubby place! We stayed here one night and thought we had walked into Bates Motel! The place stank, the carpets were filthy and sticky, the whole place needed a good overhaul and clean. There are no staff on the premises overnight and the security is woefully lacking. The only redeeming feature was that breakfast was ok. I honestly have...

Came here for a night, the room was absolutely boiling. When the door got opened I thought I was getting off a plane in Dubai, went into the bathroom, no shower just a plastic tub to wash your hair and there was still water in the bath with the plug in I'm guessing from the previous people in the room....

I stayed here with my family last night, myself and my mum in one room, my brother and step dad in another. Fair enough, we booked knowing it was not a five star hotel however, we were rather surprised how dirty it was (sticky carpet, mouldy bathroom ceiling, smelly corridors to mention a few). Despite this, we tried to make...

Do not stay, one of the most depressing places I've stayed since backpacking in India. The room was cramped, could not sit on the loo properly as the sink was in the way. No soap to wash with in the shower. Very noisy, walls made off paper and desperately in need of an upgrade.

This place is a scruffy disgrace, and in many parts plain dangerous. The publicity photo is taken from across the river looking at the rear of the property, in reality it is right beside a busy road and bridge. On entering the bar/breakfast room/reception room straight off the street the general look of the place didn’t bode well. Knowing the...

From the outside and some of the photos you might think that this could be a quirky little place. From the layout it certainly has that as an opportunity but the rooms need investment and a good clean (dust and cobwebs in the ceilings / fans and corners). The breakfast was fine and the staff were very nice / helpful....

We booked this just by chance, didn't research it, just because it was central. We looked at the reviews whilst sipping a cold beer in one of the many watering holes within easy reach of the hotel. We immediately thought what have we done having not yet checked in. The hotel itself was clean, tidy and as stated fairly central....

Built in 1605, Riverside has real character which we enjoyed and the river was thick with Water Lilies, like a Monet painting. It is well placed. Just a 10 minute walk up North Hill brings you to 'High Street', lots of shops and Colchester Castle. The breakfast: tea, coffee, fruit juice, cereals, and full English or scrambled egg on toast...
