A good B&B manages to make you feel comfortable and welcome. A great B&B makes you feel like you're visiting old friends. Andrew and Nicci made us feel like we were home. There is a fine line between a warm welcome and an overbearing host, but the people at Ransomes manage it perfectly. From a gorgeous room with a stunning view to delicious breakfasts cooked on a cosy aga, I honestly don't know what else you could want from a place. For information, we stayed in the Blue Room which was clean, spacious, comfortable and with excellent facilities. We had breakfast, which was very well made and good value. There is parking but you do need to watch out for the turning into the house and you will need to slow right down when you get there.

My partner and I stayed here in the Blue Room for 2 nights as a quick getaway to the seaside before everything goes crazy again. What a find! The Blue Room is very comfortable and cosy; we had 2 good nights' sleep in the frankly enormous bed. The view out onto their garden is beautiful and relaxing, with bird feeders situated just outside the window so you can watch the birds flying in. ❤️ Perfect. Also, the bathroom is gorgeous, very spacious and well appointed. Andrew and Nicci are the best hosts you could ask for - kind and attentive, always doing their best to make sure you're comfortable. It was such a pleasure meeting and talking to them. The breakfast made on the Aga was *amazing*! I honestly can't think of anything I would change about this place, and we definitely hope we can come back someday.

My family had a lovely 2 night stay here. The Annex was perfect for us. Comfortable and clean. Kitchenette was ideal for picnic preparation. Hosts very friendly and were very accommodating with 2 vegan diets. Delicious breakfasts! A great garden with equipment for the kids to play on. A great base for Mersea Island and Colchester zoo. Highly recommend

We had a few days in Essex visiting our favourite wildlife sites of Abberton Reservoir and Fingringhoe Wick. We needed a nice, comfortable B&B and Ransomes was the perfect place. A very warm welcome, lovely room with wonderful view, delicious breakfast. Everything we wanted.

My family enjoyed our night at this B&B. A shame it wasn’t for longer! The annex provided excellent accommodation for our children and our 3 month old twin grandchildren. My husband and I had a very comfortable stay in the guest room. Breakfast was lovely and the proprietors were very accommodating. The surroundings were beautiful too. Thank you very much. I’m sure we’ll be back
