Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As well as my partner filing a complaint with the customer service team about our nightmare experience, I feel it is only fair to warn others to seek alternate accommodation if planning a trip to Carlisle. Travelodge's website has provided some interesting reading material following the trip, and I'm astonished at how many of their own statements completely contradict the reality of our stay. For example, they claim that they want to give all guests a "warm welcome" and "memorable experience". I certainly did have the latter, but for all the wrong reasons. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in with no exception. The hotel was in an absolutely shocking state, with mould and dirt and disgusting stains on almost every surface we encountered during our stay. My partner documented these and included pictures in his complaint, one of which showed that the ceiling outside our room was waterlogged and on the verge of collapse. The walls are presumably very thin, as we could hear a huge amount of noise even with our TV on. Speaking of which, the TV did not seem properly attached to the wall. The survery I was sent asked if I had a pleasant sleep, and to that I respond, how can you sleep soundly thinking a TV might crash to the floor at any moment, with a ridiculous amount of noise filtering through from elsewhere in the hotel and with the worry the ceiling might cave in. Furthermore, i am disabled and made a point of booking an accessible room as we were attending a wedding and I (rather reasonably!) wanted to shower beforehand. I was very shocked to see upon arrival, therefore, that our room had a raised shower cubicle with no seat. We resolved to ask when down at reception if they stored seats there, as is the case in some hotels and which seemed like the only possible solution given Travelodge's claim that they do their utmost for disabled guests. The staff members we had the displeasure of speaking to were openly amused by the situation, smirking to one another and treating us as if had perhaps just landed from Mars and made the most audacious request they'd ever heard. I cannot tell you how humiliated and subhuman this made me feel. I then attempted to shower without a seat and a great deal of help from my partner, during which I fell. My partner has been conversing with Melissa of the customer service team, as we are seeking a partial refund at the very least. So far we have been told twice that an investigation is underway, and I sincerely hope to have this completed soon and recieve some sort of compensation given the disgusting state of the hotel and appalling attitudes of their ableist staff members. Sorry simply isn't good enough!

Friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are pretty basic, compared to similar priced hotels. No hairdryer in the room. Suited me for a one night stopover on the way to Scotland, however the hotel itself was pretty uninspiring.

This was our third visit to this hotel, and on every visit it has been exceptionally clean, the staff have always been very friendly and helpful. Next time we visit, we will again use this hotel without even comparing others.

Rooms always clean and spacious. Food is good and plenty of choice. The staff really make this place the best place to stay, I’ve stayed in Carlisle for months all together with work and wouldn’t choose anywhere else. Sukina is a great asset to the company, nothing is ever a problem and very very helpful. All of the staff are lovely and always have a big smile. Would recommend staying here when in Carlisle

I've been staying here four nights a week since mid January with work and cannot fault the hotel or staff. Rooms are comfortable and clean. But it is the staff that really make the difference - every one of them that I've encountered has been warm and friendly and always happy to help. Special mention to Jenny and Josh - nothing is too much trouble for them and they really do bend over backwards to help guests!
