The Langleigh Guest House is; a very safe pair of hands, a truly comfortable night's sleep, with a generous and accommodating breakfast and all performed with great care by the most charming & welcoming of Carlisle hosts.

Yvette & Norman are the very best at what they do, nothing is too much and after more than a few years, they readily become friends also. Their eclectic Victorian guest house is great testament to their incredible antique & quirky ornament collection and eye for detail, if that's not your thing then don't worry; just go with the fact that they are located conveniently in a surprisingly leafy part of Carlisle, great value and just simply great at what they do.

Handy for cyclists, fishing trips, walkers and Hadrian's Wall'ers. OR you maybe looking for a halfway stop to Scotland or on the way back - they are 2 mins from junction 43 at the intersection of the A69 to Newcastle. You just can't go wrong :D

Covid viral set-up and ready to take your bookings once again with sincere warmth & panache.

I stayed for a single night, booked as part of my Hadrian's Wall hiking trip. I'd recommend Langleigh Guest House for anyone who wants Victorian decor and character and chatty welcoming hosts, rather than a formulaic chain hotel.

Brownie points for being offered (rather than having to ask for) fresh milk to take up to my room for a cup of tea and a re-fillable glass bottle of water, not purchased plastic or glass bottle of mineral water (the latter utterly unnecessary in the UK, but I fear the provision of "bottled water" may be required by the star rating system for accommodation to qualify for a particular level).

Large comfortable room with a double and single bed, a decent sized teapot and glass jars of teabags and sugar (not individually wrapped - another brownie, or should that be greenie point). Decent thick curtains enabled a good night's sleep.

A surprisingly good shower, and the most quirky and characterful basin and loo surround I've ever encountered (of which the hosts were obviously very proud).

At breakfast I enjoyed the fruit, granola and yoghurt, and the Cumberland sausage and eggs for breakfast (it would be a shame to leave Cumbria without having eaten a Cumberland sausage) but there were plenty of other tempting hot breakfast options available.

While the owners have 2 pet dogs, they were heard but not seen, which was reassuring to me as I'm not really a dog person!

While not bang in the centre of Carlisle, there were plenty of restaurants and bars no more than 10 minutes walk away for dinner.

Three of us stayed for three nights exploring North Cumbria including the Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall. Lovely to be looked after, giving us a real break, with such good breakfasts we hardly needed any lunch! We also had dinner at Langleigh two of the nights, making the most of Yvette's excellent cooking, and can also recommend Michelangelo's Italian restaurant just a few minutes' walk away. We appreciated the little touches like fresh milk for our rooms - and extra to take out with our flasks during the day - and chats with Norman and Yvette. The rooms are large and beautifully kept, with a real Victorian feel and impressive furniture.

Stayed for a night whilst walking Hadrian’s Wall. 5 friends across 3 rooms. It’s a great location, not too far from the route of the wall, walking distance to the town centre and quiet at night.
The house is a characterful property with period decor, furniture and fittings throughout. Whilst the rooms were large, this meant there wasn’t a lot of space to open suitcases and I was a little paranoid about accidentally catching an ornament as I rummaged through my suitcase. It’s a matter of personal taste and I suspect the owners probably aren’t aiming their choice of decor at a group of middle aged men who are gasping for a pint after walking. I can certainly vouch that the shower was warm, the bed was comfy and the breakfast plentiful. I got the impressions that the hosts could not do enough to please their guests.

In my view B&B's are all about the personal interactions with your hosts and I really enjoyed staying as guests of Norman and Yvette after completing the Cumbria Way. My room was spotless and breakfast almost too much to eat (almost!-) Clearly a couple who enjoy what they do and that shone through for me.
Hope to see you again next time I'm in Carlisle.

Had a wonderful welcome after a long day of hiking. House easy enough to find and not too far off Hadrian's Wall Path. Given a spot to sit and put boots and a walkingstick before even being checked in. Owners are experts at their jobs.

Loved the Victorian deco, room balanced decoration and ease of use very well, was worried I'd knock something over but there was room for all my things without any issue.

Fantastic kippers for breakfast and delicious fruit and yogurt. I deeply regretted getting a sad meal deal for my packed lunch when I saw the amazing packed lunches Langleigh I could have bought instead.

So two and a half years after our first stay here on the way up to Scotland for a holiday, Mrs W and I are back here on the way home from another holiday in Scotland! When considering the options of where to stay on our way home, this seemed the obvios one to choose , Yvette and Norman welcoming us back with a great room (4 this time instead of 2) and a hearty breakfast.
To be honest I wish I had written the previous review from Topcat. As far as reviews go this said it all about LGH. Like so many B & Bs, LGH is gradually getting guests back but be assured all the necessary protocols are in place for a safe and comfortable stay in these difficult times.
We would recommend LGH to anyone.

The very essence of a perfect bed and breakfast. Yvette and Norman are excellent hosts, so welcoming and their beautiful home is warm and comfortable. The extensive breakfast menu is outstanding, includes an Arnold Bennett omelette!! Our room had a vast bed and a luxurious claw foot bath where I had the most amazing deep ans hot bath, very welcome after walking 16 miles. We wish we had known more of Yvette’s culinary skills, as we would have booked ahead an evening meal. Also may I add Carlisle was quite surprising. Lots of beautiful Georgian and Victorian terraces in tree lined streets. We we impressed by how smart it all was. Thank you Norman, Yvette, Charlie and Harry. We thoroughly recommend your hospitality. 👍

The Guest House is in easy walking distance to the town centre and close to Hadrian's Wall path. Yvette and Norman are super friendly and welcoming. The Guest House is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in Yvette's unique way. A massive breakfast catering for our plant based diet was the perfect send off on our walk.

I would echo all the other outstanding reviews and add more! Norman and Yvette have got this down to a fine art. I was in a dreadful situation after booking an atrocious stay through Airbnb and after phoning Norman I felt I was ‘saved’! It was such a pleasure to meet this truly wonderful couple who are clearly dedicated to making the world a better place. I was put in a family room yet only charged for myself and felt soothed by just being surrounded by beautiful things. All the little touches were so appreciated. It’s just such a wonderful house, from the lovely garden out front to the candlesticks at breakfast. In the morning, I suddenly realised my soaking wet walking boots were still in a carrier bag. Norman said, ‘Leave it with me.’ I went to mass at the cathedral and had a walk around Carlisle as my train wasn’t due to leave until after 2pm. When I came back to collect my bags safely looked after) I was presented with clean, dry boots! I don’t know how he did it!
I would hate to think anyone visiting Carlisle may miss out on this 10-star experience, so would urge people to book in here! You’ll be better people for it!
