We booked this hotel for a business trip, stayed in the Crosby apartment (attic) down the street from the hotel Room a deceit size bathroom very small, you could not open door fully, had to come in maim room to get dried out of shower. Room has a dressing table however no light to be able to see in the mirror so that was a waste of time. Not able to watch any films on TV all rent or buy, impossible to watch TV in bed as on an angle. Pillows are the worst we have ever slept on so uncomfortable. Kitchen area with good appliances. The worst bit about this apartment it is underneath a very busy bar, the music was so loud at 9.45pm I telephoned reception and I was assured that they would contact the bar only for the music to be turned up even louder! this went on until 12 midnight then the noise of people walking home for another few hours so the husband went to work having only had 5 hours sleep from working at 6am the day before! I did e-mail the hotel after complaining at check out, they did reply with a lack lustre response, which showed a lack of empathy, the excuses were Christmas parties had started and a home football game, the main problem here was none of them, it was the location of the apartment having a bar underneath it that played very loud music, you don't just play music at Christmas! Had we been informed that a busy bar playing music was located beneath us we would not of booked this when one of the party had to get up for work!!!!!! The main hotel may have sound proof windows but the apartments on a weekend are a disaster to this high ranked hotel, good luck to anyone staying on a weekend, £140 to be kept awake, but hey there is earplugs in a drawer........just what you shouldn't need on a relaxing break, working or not working!

We held a business meeting here and used the Library Room. Absolutely everything was perfect - the size and shape of the room, access to IT, fabulous lunch including huge chips. Double coffee machine with hot water and great selection of teas. Every member of staff was super helpful. We will be back and would highly recommend the Halston to others - thank you to everyone involved

Stayed here for a wedding that was taking place at Dalston Hall…and this place was FAR superior to Dalston Hall. The setting is stunning, the bar, the restaurant, the staff, our apartment…we literally could not fault it! Dee was lovely on reception and so welcoming. Our apartment was located in a separate building but very close by. It was SO spacious and lovely that we almost wanted to move in permanently!!! I also tried out the gym too and this was only 8 months old. It was lovely too!! Highly recommended

My husband and I had a very wonderful stay for 3 nights here at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle, England. The reception staff were helpful and very professional. Our apartment was clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful time in Carlisle! May I recommend visiting the Cathedral and the Carlisle castle? You will never forget it!

After a long, exhausting journey from Shrewsbury (due to trains being canceled because of bad weather in Scotland), we were warmly welcomed at The Halston. What a wonderful hotel! Our apartment was clean and spacious with coffee, tea, and crumpets waiting for us. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was gorgeous. If we ever return to Carlisle, we will definitely stay again!

We stayed at the Halston twice on our way up and back from Scotland. We enjoyed both stays. The apartment we had was modern and well equipped. Although as a previous review mentions the lift is very slow. Parking is next to the hotel (if you drive into the car park and then to the right you can walk very easily to the front door). Although we enjoyed our stays, we stayed on Saturday nights both times and Carlisle is buzzing on a Saturday night so there was a lot of noise. If this is going to bother you, you may want to stay further out from the city centre. They do provide ear plugs though!

A lovely place with good staff, clean and modern rooms. Nespresso machine in our room is always a great touch. Central location with lots of restaurants and bars practically next door. Plenty of parking close by. Will stay here again. Thanks for a really nice stay.

I stay here on my short stays in Carlisle because it’s the most modern & walkable to/from the train station. This time I opted for a studio apartment which was perfectly adequate. The apartment was lovely and came equipped with all mod cons (including crumpets for breakfast!). Bed was comfy and shower hot (although fan not working in the bathroom). There was a tower fan in the lounge but it could probably do with replacing as was very wobbly. Also not sure why the cleaner put the dishwasher on for a plate, jug, knife & cup - not very environmentally friendly! The reason I gave 4 and not 5 is because I booked my stay through hotels.com and opted for the ‘pay at hotel’ option. However on the morning of my arrival the hotel tried to take full payment from my credit card - why? The card I used was just a guarantee card - I never wanted to use it to pay anyway. Upon check in the woman on reception then proceeded to tell me my card had been declined and I explained all the above to her. She said the hotel would take payment otherwise they would cancel the booking! Why have this option with hotels.com then? Very frustrating and a 20 minute conversation I didn’t need to have! Aside from that the stay was fine. No ‘how was my stay’ when I checked out although I did hear the girl asking the couple after me about their stay! 🙄 Fews tweaks and this place would get a 5 stars for sure…..

We stayed here for three nights. This hotel was superficially good and quite flashy, but there were some drawbacks. Our room was quite big, but somehow the space was badly utilised and it was underfurnished, so it did not feel comfortable. For example, the wardrobe was difficult to access. There was a desk, which was handy. It was also handy to have a kitchen area, and the provided crumpets were nice. There is an excruciatingly slow lift. We had booked this hotel as opposed to other apartment hotels because the web site said breakfast was available, but in fact the breakfast is not for hotel guests, but is in a cafe open to the public, so it is cafe breakfast food not hotel breakfast food. After the first morning we found a nearby Tesco Express which was great for buying breakfast supplies etc. From memory, there is no room service from the restaurant in the evenings The staff were reasonably helpful, although, as British citizens, we were a bit taken aback on arrival to be asked for our passports because we live in Australia. We had been staying with relatives and had left many items at their house, so it was only by chance that one of us had a passport with him. We hadn't been asked at any other hotels on our trip in England. I think the receptionist would have actually refused to let us in if we hadn't been able to produce one passport, and we would have had to find somewhere else to stay. (By the way, I checked and it is not legally required in our circumstances). The weather had been very warm, yet there was a thick duvet on the bed. The staff seemed to think we were mad when we asked for a sheet and blanket instead. They did not have blankets, but did produce a thin duvet. Fortunately the weather had cooled down a bit by then - it must have been awful in the really hot weeks. On the upside, the bed was comfortable and it was queen-sized, which isn't that common in England. The parking is in a small adjacent public car park - were were a bit concerned about this, but could always find a space. It might be different at weekends though. There is a discount, which the staff organise when you leave. On our final departure the staff had obviously forgotten to activate it, so we had a few anxious moments (with cars waiting behind us!) till they clearly did the job and we were able to exit. We had exited the day before, for a drive, with no issues. The hotel was quite pricey, so we were generally underwhelmed. But the location is very good for city centre restaurants, museums etc, and is near the station. I can imagine it would be noisy at weekends, but we stayed in the early part of the week and there was no noise.
