I go to visit family in Bedford as often as possible, and the Victoria B&B is my little guilty pleasure. I have stayed here on 5 occasions, 4 nights using rooms with en suite facilities and once a standard room. It is so nice to be able to use this as a retreat, a 10 minute car journey from my daughters, which means I can stay with the family until late evening, and then go to a comfortable bed in a clean well appointed room and sleep very soundly.
Breakfast is a nice affair. A little bell hanging from the door lets the owner know you have entered the light and airy breakfast room, she quickly asks what you want, and she will try to accommodate most requests. Cereal,Fruit and Juices plus water are there for the taking, pots of tea or coffee are brought within minutes, slices of fresh toast are left on your table along side your chosen fayre..Delish!
The rooms are well equipped, even the standard rooms, have a sink and fresh towels, and the bathroom is only a short stride away. The beds are comfy and the linen clean and crisp. The en suite rooms are better, and again soap, shower gel, towels and more towels adorn the shower room. The beds are just as comfy. (Hurrah)
Yes, the rooms are little "Old fashioned" but for complete comfort and cosiness, this little B&B on D'Parys Road will take a lot of beating. Tea and coffee making facilities are also in each room, as is a TV, and radiators that work very well...................
The owner is a friendly and happy person, who chats away with you,and gives you nothing to complain about.
The B&B is on a Tree Lined street, opposite a school and a few minutes walk into the Town Centre and Bus Station. There are some lovely little shops and the Harpur Centre is worth a visit too.
I would recommend this B&B to anyone, and I am looking forward to another visit in the New Year.

Booked in advance but after a horrendous drive turned up very late and was concerned maybe too late. However, I couldn't have been made more welcome and was made to feel very at ease and no issues

I was quickly in my room and all I needed for the nught, clean and comfortable, overlooking the rear of the property. Got a good nights sleep.

Morning was up and out promptly but stopped for breakfast. Great breakfast and friendly hosts. Will be back for sure.

I've been staying at the Victoria for quite a few times and will definitely be staying there again.
The rooms are just the right size, neither too big nor too small, the beds are comfortable and there never was an issue with cleanliness or anything the like. It's also located rather close to almost anything you'd want and need, which is pretty convenient for someone like me who doesn't drive.
There may be one downside: everything's rather informal, from payment over arrival/departure to breakfast. That doesn't even remotely mean it's bad, not at all. It just means that this may not be the right place for you to stay if you expect everything to be fancy and formal and who-knows-what. Otherwise, it's a place I'd recommend to almost everyone who may be reading this review, especially those on a tight budget.
And btw - they also have really good cake sometimes.

I stayed here for 6 weeks, so I got quite a lot of experience on a day to day basis.
At first I thought it was fine, but by the end of my stay I was glad to go.
The first week I was there Andrew refused to make me breakfast as he said 'I don't do porridge', so I had to use instant sachets and put it in the microwave.
When Liz returned to doing the breakfasts the next week, she made a superb porridge, but kept trying to persuade me to eat eggs instead as 'we get a special deal on them'....not a reason to up my cholesterol though, so I stuck with my porridge.
I found it incredibly noisy, as the windows in my room were single glazed and ran with water on colder mornings. I could hear every conversation from the street , never mind the traffic, which at times could be very busy, as there is a popular school over the road, which operated even on a Saturday.
I didn't find it clean at all. My single bed was swapped for a double, which filled the whole room and I saw that a mattress cover with a spot of fresh blood the size of a thumb nail had been put underneath the sheet.
After 2 weeks of avoiding the cushion with the water staining on, I mentioned it to the cleaner and it was washed and returned, but I found the owners and staff to be reactive rather than proactive. Liz actually said to me 'how do we know what's wrong if nobody tells us?'....er, you have eyes and ears on your business?
I shared the bathroom with 3 other rooms and the shower was quite dangerous because it was connected to the hot water tank, which meant that every time someone in another room turned on the tap, I could be frozen or scalded, sometimes alternately!
However, when I mentioned this , it was changed to an electric shower within 2 days, but at the cost of an ear bashing from Liz, who moaned to me about the cost of installing it! Much less than the cost of a scalding to a guest I suspect.
I just felt uncomfortable because I felt that there was a lack of professional distance that I can't discuss here,
It is very handy for all the takeaways and the High Street though.
But thankfully I don't need to come back here. I've never been in such a surreal situation!

Whilst the guesthouse is clean, comfortable and well priced with a good breakfast, we found that the owner has an unfortunate sense of humour which, be warned, may cause offense. On more than one occasion, my staff have found that he made inappropriate remarks, meant, we are sure in his idea of fun, but on both occasions as their employer, they mentioned the matter to me and voiced concerns. He means to be friendly, and I am sure, some will find his racial stereotyping and sexist remarks amusing but he needs to be aware that not everyone shares his views. Apart from that, the rooms are pleasant and functional. To be fair, when I emailed a complaint he apologised unreservedly which was appreciated. We will not be booking again however.

This is the second time my work mates and I have stayed at the Victoria, and it's consistently good. Situated on a road that has some fantastic properties and about a 10 minute walk to the town centre, it's convenient.
The owners couldn't do enough to help us after my mate lost his keys, which shows how genuine these people are.
Rooms are clean, as is the breakfast. Cereal, fruit and fry ups on offer - you will not leave hungry.

If you are going to Bedford do try your utmost to stay at this B&B, you cannot be disappointed. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and warm, the hosts are very friendly and make you feel most welcome not just another "unit" to fill up a bedroom overnight. The breakfast service is excellent and whatever you choose is cooked to your requirements, also the time span over which the breakfast is served is very accommodating for those who either have an early start or perhaps have a more leisurely day ahead. A big plus is the car park at the rear which not all town centre B&Bs can offer.
This B&B is in an elegant Victorian villa which is modernised but still retains many great original features, the original tiled entrance hall is an absolute joy.
There is nothing wrong with big chain "sleep factories", but if you want value for money and to be treated as an individual human being you will not do better than the Victoria Guest House. We will return !
You must try the Omelette at breakfast, you will not have tasted one better.

Thank you for a nice stay this weekend. My family and I were in Bedford visiting friends so this guest house was perfect for all 4 of us to stay in the same room.

Our room was clean and had all we needed for a comfortable nights sleep.

Breakfast is a relaxed affair and we all enjoyed a full English which was a nice treat as I didn't have to cook it!

Town was just a short walk down the road so managed a bit of shopping!
