Rooms 101, 102, 103 and 201 all have spectacular views over the Embankment and the River Great Ouse and are perfect for a special occasion. I have tried a number of hotels in Bedford and found the Embankment hotel to be the best by far. The staff were very friendly and the room wasvery spacious and comfortable with a lovely view of the river. I am a very early riser in the morning (anywhere from 03:00 onwards) and it was great to have a front door key to head out for a run when normal people are asleep! The breakfast was also very nice, they do a cooked vegitarian option, which turns into a great plant based option by just passing on the egg. It is the first time I have tried vegitarian haggis and found it to be very nice. There is also fresh fruit, which was a nice touch. Parking is provided at the rear of the hotel and spaces are hard to find; parking on the road is allowed; however, payment is required between 08:00 & 18:00. As this is an old building there is no lift and therefore some people may struggle with the stairs, especially if they have a lot of baggage. This will definitely be my hotel of choice on future trips to Bedford.

We had a wedding reception to attend locally so decided to have a night away from home.

The car park is small but we were lucky when we went to park someone else was leaving (both times!) otherwise there is other parking nearby (charges may apply)

We arrived at a busy point for the staff, but when we got their attention they gave us all the info for the room and food.

The room was a perfect size for a nice overnight stay, bed was HUGE and comfy, and the provided toiletries were all sustainable and ethical, in nice metal reusable containers, this was also noticed with the food that they are doing their best to be a responsible hotel. There was also a kettle with selection of hot drinks, a fan as it was hot, and large wardrobe. Despite being on the top floor the shower was really hot, with ok pressure.

We ate at the restaurant where the food was amazing! Well worth the price of the food, and again we were impressed with the ethical ketchup and the named “Aubreys farm” foods where there is some info provided.

Breakfast was very nice, but there was a slight mix up with an order of orange juice (luckily i love apple juice) my wife even ate the black pudding which she doesn't usually like. All credit to the chefs who made our excellent meals.

Checkout is at 11 which means we were able to enjoy a slow morning, without needing to rush, the canal made a lovely morning walk and the town centre is only 5mins away.

Have also been sent a discount for next time, so if we have a need will book again for a cosy night away with great food.

Hi we enjoyed our stay very much . But would like to give feedback ..

The location is lovely .
The food ( evening was good ( apart from the shwarmer hummus.. had no taste . Quite odd!).
Breakfast food was lovely .

But the service was all a bit chaotic. Unsure where to sit ( unless manager lady was about no one else even gave eye contact to offer help).
As guests staying in hotel with a dog we knew we had to sit in bar area but unsure whether needed to wait to be seated etc. lady on reception was often busy with other guests checking out/ in etc.
We chose this hotel as it was a dog friendly pub. But no mention of extra dog charge when booking ( only added on and discussed upon arrival), and no offer of dog water/ treats or any fuss made of dog whilst eating- do take blankets / towels and floor mat for dog food / water bowls etc for your room . People with dogs have to sit/ eat in bar area . I felt those with dogs should of been placed on the edge of the room automatically otherwise they were in the way with staff and other guests moving around. It felt slightly that although dogs allowed they were being tolerated and not really welcomed.

The service in the bar area was really poor. Staff not friendly or chatty. Lots of staff around but waited ages for coffee/ order to be taken /cutlery not on table after food delivered/ water that didn’t arrive .

Only the short blonde lady on reception was holding everything together .. she was working v v hard and throwing more logs on the fire as she went!

Our room 102 was very nice and clean fab view over the river . The toilet roll holder was broken and the loo roll fell off every time which was a bit annoying! The toilet was separate and is in a very small space , although the rest of the bathroom area very large in comparison. A person with poor mobility / or of a larger size would struggle . The lever taps at the sink were hard to operate as the shelf above it was too close. ( both reported to hotel ).

We made a drink when we arrived using the facilities in the room . But either the cups were dusty or the milk was off. As the smell of the resulting coffee was awful ! We bought our own milk having asked for extra milks ( that didn’t arrive) and used the disposable cups 2nd time around and that was fine!

We would stay again as overall enjoyed the stay and convenient and lovely location.

We stayed one night and the room was well laid out and
a reasonable size, nicely decorated with double bed; wardrobe, desk and chair, wall hung TV etc. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Shower nice and hot. The room was airy and there was a fan available.
I felt very covid safe - the room and public areas clean with hand gel and masks available. We had a delightful evening meal sitting on the outside front terrace over looking the river ( patio heater kept us warm). Breakfast in the morning also excellent with a wide choice of dishes including traditional full breakfast and lots of coffee. Staff very friendly and helpful.
There is a small car park to the rear of hotel and we were lucky enough to get the last space. All in all relaxing stay.

I stay at the hotel/gastropub fairly regularly and have never been disappointed. The location is very good being right on the river front. The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful, whether that's hotel, bar or restaurant. Whoever does recruitment should be applauded. During the summer this is a very popular drinking/dining spot so can get pretty busy, especially on the front terrace which overlooks the river. Booking ahead is essential. The food is very good with a wide ranging menu. The hotel part has very clean and comfortable rooms which are 'mostly' quiet. The rooms at the front on the first floor can be noisy in summer as they overlook the terrace. There are rooms on the second floor and there is no lift so be aware if you are not quite as mobile. Overall a lovely place to stay. Would recommend.

It was my pleasure to stay at this wonderful 'pub' recently, although I do not think that the description of 'pub' reinforces sufficiently my words below. I spent 5 nights here and nothing was too much trouble. Each and every member of staff was helpful, polite, smiling and genuinely wanted to ensure that my stay was as comfortable as possible. However, I must give huge credit to Zoe Louise was was simply outstanding each and every day that I met her. She is a credit to your establishment and I would like this officially noted. Even though I arrived late to the hotel, and the restaurant was closed, I was able to book a salad in advance after my long journey. Some times parking out the back can be tricky, and you may have to wait for a space to become available. My room was very spacious, with ample space to do my work. The bed was comfortable with clean linen provided every day. (Just leave the notice on the outside of the door.)The hostess tray had been carefully thought through, even providing porcelain coffee mugs and delicious cookies. Extra milk and coffee sachets were available on request. Plenty of huge fluffy white towels were supplied as well as toiletries of a high standard. The shower area was a very good size with plenty of hot water. The room was kept warm and comfortable. A wardrobe with drawers was provided as well as good lighting. Breakfast was taken in the front of the pub area and the menu was a delight and I managed to work my way through five of the delicious temptations. Coffee was fresh and piping hot - served as specified. You could eat your breakfast overlooking the river - which was wonderful as you watched the swans and other birds enjoy the early morning sunshine. I noticed how popular this place was for early morning visitors. The breakfast staff were so helpful and attentive and, again, smiling. Breakfast was effected via table service, which also added to the ambience. I used the restaurant in the evening and the dishes were cooked fresh and to a very high standard. The tempura prawns were to die for! I did not find the noise levels here interefered with my sleep pattern. As you can see I have nothing but praise for this hotel which is situated conveniently very close to the town centre. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable and comfortable.

We have stayed here a number of times and we always have a nice stay, the staff are always very helpful. bed size was very good, room is always very clean. we have already booked our next stay here.
The toilet wasn't very clean, needs strong bleach to solve the problem. The carpark! after traveling for 6 hrs it would be nice to park in the carpark NOT 600 yards down the road. When will the management realise this is the only free parking that all the locals use, some just to go for a walk or the staff. I'm getting fed-up with this, why don't they make sure there are enough spaces for the guest that have book a room for the night.

My room, on the first floor, was perfectly comfortable and clean. The showerhead was broken, but it was still possible to have a functional shower. My problem was the unbelievable noise coming from the music downstairs on Saturday night. At 11 pm it was still booming away, and I had to get to sleep because of my work commitment on the following day. No guest should be subjected to this level of noise pollution.

I have given a one star rating, this is nothing to do with the food or the drinks, mainly because we didn't get that far.
When arriving for an evening outdoor drink, we were told to do the track and trace using the app, if not giving details to be logged. Totally understandable. But there are ways of asking for the information. It was not a welcoming or friendly manner, more that we were an inconvenience. Wether it was because we only wanted alcoholic drinks and no food, weather it was we had not booked, I really do not know. But having been offered a seat outside which was fine, all three of us decided to leave without ordering as the manner had made us feel not welcomed, so why should we spend £30 on three gins. It is a time for hospitality sectors to step up and encourage people in, make them feel valued and welcome. Sorry you didn't hit the mark at all.

First stay here and very impressed. Came to attaned a private function in one of the dining rooms (they have 2 available for private hire) and stayed in one of the premium rooms with river views.

Bed was very comfortable, nice touches provided like dressing gowns and premium toiletries. Lovely large room (103) with high ceiling and views to the river. All spotlessly clean and well presented.

Dinner was excellent, and breakfast was even better. Was very surprised just how busy and popular it was at 9.30 on a Sunday morning, it's obviously got a good reputation locally and I can understand why.

Storm Ciara crashed through overnight during my stay and about the only feeback I can offer is that the sign at the front of the Hotel needs oiling, as it squeaked as it swung back and forth in the strong wind and had me out of bed earlier than I would of liked.... then again... gave me more time to really enjoy that Breakfast.

Summary? Yes yes yes, loved it. Well done.
