You're always a bit sceptical about claims like '5 star hostel' etc. I was hugely impressed with Habitat and think there are good reasons why its so highly rated. here are mine 1. Clean, really you'd think that was an unremarkable attribute but many budget places seem to think that ' cleanish' is enough. it isnt 2. Comfy beds. The...

This is an excellent bunkhouse expertly run which is clean and modern. The bedrooms although not spacious are comfortable with en-suite wet-room and a toilet. There is a large kitchen, dining area and lounge. It has off road parking. It has a central location in Ballater to give the visitor easy access to eateries, pubs and other local amenities. Lovely hostel with new owners. Very friendly and helpful - they even gave my friend a pair of their own shoes to go out in because all he had were motorcycle boots with him! How cool is that! Comfy, clean and quiet. Will definitely be returning.

We stayed in twin rooms not the hostel bit, which was of hotel standard. Good cooking facilities and a handy supermarket to get provisions. Selection of games and magazines in the sitting area. We were there for the first week of the new management and they were great. My wife had forgotten her walking boots and they lent her a...

Excellent facilities, friendly staff, very clean. Nice and quiet. Comfortable. Great value! Nice lounge dining area. Washing/drying facilities for my sweaty cycling clothes, perfect! Wifi signal wasn't very strong but enough to get by. Good choice of books/magazines to flick through on the bookshelf and some people had been very generous and left us some red wine!

Hi Glad you enjoyed your visit and hope the rest of your cycle to John o Groats went well. We were aware the Wifi was playing up - this has now been fixed so should be better for your next visit. Daniel

We would usually plan a weekend of cycling by deciding where we wanted to go, then picking a hostel near by. But this time, we were idly flicking through the Independent Hostel guide when we saw this place, and thought it looked cool... checked the online availability... 2 beds left... we numbered 2... so booked it on the spot, and...

Stayed in one of the Private rooms for 2 night and really couldn't be any better. Private room is very spacious with immaculate bathroom and shower room. Couple who run the place are really nice and happy to help in any way that they can. Living/kitchen area is huge and would suit very large groups and the kitchen is more...

This place has all the facilities of a standard hotel and very comfortable beds. We had a private family room which was plenty big enough. The living area is also very well equipped and if like us you'll eat out, there are several places in the village for both dinner and breakfast. Parking is available outside the building. Ballater is...
