We had lunch and visited with 9 people. The food was excellent. If you need to avoid gluten, there are plenty of options. I had a classic burger (gluten free), which was excellent. Just what we needed after a nice walk!
An absolutely delightful experience all around. The location was great, the room very comfortable and very clean, the food excellent, and the staff polite, professional, and friendly. Would recommend it to all. Will definitely stay again when in the area.
Food was tasty, reasonably priced and prompt service from a welcoming team. Portions were well sized for hungry travellers! Located on one end of Ballater high street, with views of the river not too far away
We enjoyed a lovely pub dinner in the hotel bar. The bar had a nice cosy atmosphere and staff were happy to answer questions about the menu. It was busy on a Monday night so I would recommend booking to make sure you get a table at the time you prefer.
Loved the small hotel vibes of the Alexandra hotel. On top of a great location, rooms were super comfy and extremely clean, staff were lovely, breakfast superb and their bar serves delicious pub meals (their cheesecake is so tasty). It may not be your thing if you're after luxury. But, if like me, you're looking for a comfy and clean room, great breakfast and friendly service, then look no further. We loved it and will be back
Having visited Ballater for days trips, we treated ourselves to a 2-night stay, and chose The Alexandra Hotel based on other Trip Advisor reviews. Run by Fiona and Alex, we were shown our room by Alex. Very nicely appointed room with en-suite, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. We had our evening meal here on the second night. Fish and chips, and veggie burger, both came with chips. Lots of options for plant-based dishes too. Apple tart with vanilla ice-cream and strawberry cheesecake with strawberry ice-cream to follow. Meals were excellent it was noticeable how busy staff were as the tables were all occupied and it was busy at the bar too. Our food was delivered without a big wait and it was all excellent. We got to keep our table for the duration of the evening, and had a lovely evening talking to staff and local people. We very much hope to stay again.…
Really lovely hotel in a lovely little town. Can’t recommend this place enough. Bed was absolutely huge and the room was clean and had character. Would definitely stay here again. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming too!
5 star visit from arrival to departure. A beautiful, cosy hotel in central Ballater - perfect for exploring Deeside and The Cairngorms! Staff are exceptionally friendly and will chat away to you, which made me feel very relaxed and comfortable as a solo traveller. I had my evening meal in the bar, fab meal and great portion sizes- just what I needed after a full day of walking. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable! Breakfast, which is included in the price, is also fab! Great variety from cereal to a full Scottish! I will definitely be back to stay when I’m up exploring the area again!
Great stay in a friendly, welcoming place. Stayed for 1 night, last week in November, on arrival check in was fast and smooth, straight to room. Room and corridors were very clean and cosy on a cold afternoon arriving. Ate out during our stay but breakfast was good and well cooked, we did before bed enjoy a drink in the bar, nice malts selection, I enjoyed a Glengoyne 15yr, a rare find now days and got the last of a Highland park 2005 indy bottling. Nice draft ales as well. Great stay, thank you
Food only. Can’t believe we’ve been visiting and staying at Ballater for 13 years and this trip was the first time we visited the Alexandra for a meal. Have to say it was so good that in our 3 week holiday we visited 3 times and it would have been a fourth but the hotel was full. The chicken was excellent. The lamb chops perfectly cooked and the pizzas were outstanding. Great value for money lovely hosts and Fiona was so friendly. It was a lovely “find” although we have been passed 100’s of times we never thought of going in as we thought it was only residential Only one small criticism and that was that the restaurant wasn’t open so we ate in the bar. It wasn’t an issue but I prefer to sit in a dining room if I can BUT it didn’t stop us going back time and time again and we look forward to eating there the next time we are in Ballater…
