Recently returned from a week with family. The lodges are based on a hill and this may be challenging for some however the hill provides stunning views of the nearby scenery. We were in a 6 berth lodge which had more than sufficient space with three separate bathrooms ad shower facilities with a bath contained within one of the shower rooms. Our lodge also had a sauna. There are excellent facilities within the lodges and our son had a double bed which was pulled down from the cabinet within the living room. You cannot fault the lodges.

The wider facilities included a swimming pool which you need to be booked into. This can be done 48 hours in advance. There were two main pools and a jacuzzi. The pools are not deep and you have approximately 45 minutes within the pool

The gym also needs to be booked into. The equipment within is reasonable the cardio-vascular is modern and easy to use with treadmills bikes and cross trainer. It is a bit small.

I am a runner and for those who also prefer to run outside, Ballater is approximately a mile away and once in Ballater if you pick up the railway line you could run for miles on flat tarmac admiring the views.

We also dined at the resort restaurant and really enjoyed the meals we had. As a party we had steak, sea bass and the battered fish. They were all excellent and could not be faulted.

The only point I would raise for the resort is that there is no shop therefore you need to travel to Ballater for any items required. Ballater has a large supermarket as well as several local independent stores.

The lodges are excellent and highly recommended for families

Stayed in a 3 bedroom lodge for 3 nights. All covid sanctions were in place. Bedrooms were downstairs in this lodge with the kitchen and lounge area upstairs together with a balcony overlooking the grounds. Lovely to see the red squirrels running around. Although there are 100 lodges at Craigendarroch they are spread out over a large area and therefore you are still able to enjoy the peaceful surroundings without being disturbed. Lodge was of an excellent standard with all the kitchen utensils/crockery you would require. The pool and spa are available -pre booking is a requirement as you would expect at present. There is also a tennis court to exercise on. There is a restaurant within the hotel that served an abridged menu and there are a number of eating establishments in Ballater which is about 20 minutes walk away. Looking forward to returning at the end of October.

Visited for 3 night stay in the 2 bed lodge sleeps 6, although due to recent restrictions there were only 2 of us. Reception staff were excellent, very informative and helpful and cheery, both at check in and check out, very structured efficient. Signage and requirements were clearly and professionally displayed and it felt a very safe environment. The lodge was superbly clean and comfortable, bathrooms all look recently renovated as was kitchen equipment and beds were very comfortable. Some furnishings are a bit out of date as are the kitchen units, but clean and very serviceable and comfortable The lodge was very warm although you pay separately for your electricity. The estate is very well maintained and nice to walk through. A great location handy for walks and the village of Ballater. Really enjoyed our stay wished we could have stayed longer will definitely return.

Today is my 1st wedding anniversary and we should have been preparing for a Carribbean cruise in a few weeks.. However Covid 19 put pay to that. As HGV owners, points we would normally use much further afield, I decided totry and get us a week in Scotland. Everywhere is SO busy, our week is split between here and Coylumbridge in Aviemore.

We have stayed in Lodge 73..a one bedroom lodge which sleeps four. It has a topsy turvy layout to make the most of the views.. bedroom - with the comfiest bed ever and bathroom - with underfloor heating(bliss) downstairs and open plan living, dining, kitchen area upstairs with a large balcony. The kitchen has every utensil, appliance, dish and glass you can possibly wish for.

At time of writing the Spa was still closed and on this occasion we chose not to use the bar and restaurant, preferring to eat in our lodge.

Speaking of which, a must try is Sheridans the butchers in Ballater.. I have never seen a selection of produce like they have in my life. We will be sure to visit for supplies before we leave.

The area is breathtaking. Ballater itself is lovely with friendly people and everything you need for a self catering stay.

Special mention to Louise, the concierge (I hope I have your name right?). On checking in I mentioned that we were going from here to Coylumbridge.. checkout here is 10am and check in there, about an hour and a half away, is 6pm. She asked me to leave it with her and 15mins later called to say we could check out at 12.30 and make our way over and they would be expecting us. Then to top it off, we wake this morning to a hand written Anniversary card through our door.

If you enjoy the great outdoors and want to recharge in a beautiful place, you will struggle to find anywhere better.

Thank you Craigendarroch.. we'll try and come back when there's snow.

We stayed for a weekend in a two-bed lodge, which had amazing views and was exceptionally clean and well equipped with absolutely everything you could need.

The living area was huge and open plan. The decor was functional but very dated with huge wooden units, an 80s style kitchen, pine ceiling and old fashioned cushions etc. However the bathrooms and bedrooms were much more modern and looked like they had been refurbished recently. The master had a dressing room, very comfortable bed and large bathroom with spa bath and underfloor heating,

We ate in the restaurant and the food and service were excellent. The pool was also fantastic and one of the best hotel pools I’ve seen! All the staff were friendly and helpful.

The location is fantastic - close to both Ballater and Balmoral. We recommend the hike to Prince Albert’s Cairn and a trip to Burn o’Vat at Dinnet.

Only criticism is the astronomical cost of electricity - £58 for two nights?! Yes it was winter but this is incredibly expensive and needs to be factored into the price.

However we had a great time and would recommend. We look forward to returning soon.

Distressed Guest

My wife and I are staying at Hilton Grand Vacations Braemar Road Ballater Scotland.
We are staying here in Lodge 15 for one week. It is a timeshare but it is not owned by me.
We have stayed in the hotel once and this is the second time we have stayed in a Lodge.
We arrived on 31 December 2019 and was asked to provide a pre-authorisation of £300.00.
On the third attempt the person said the payment had gone through.
He gave me one bit of paper that stated: Unable to Authorise and a second bit of paper that said: Verified by PIN.
When I checked with my bank I was told that two payment had gone through for £300.00 each to a total of £600.00.
My bank confirmed the authorisation codes to me.
I contacted the manager.
He said he would contact Barclays and the unauthorised amount for £300,00 would be refunded in one hour.
The money has not been refunded and I am £600.00 out of pocket.
I have to pay for electricity when I leave on Monday 6 January 2020.
If the cost of electricity is say £50.00 I will be out of pocket to the amount of £550.00.
There is something seriously wrong at this resort that this can happen.

My bank said that the £600.00 will sit in my account but I will not have access to the amount.

It is up to Hilton to refund the money but the Manager has not done it.

I suggested to the manager that I should be compensated for all this trouble and he said I was not entitled to compensation.
This problem has spoilt our holiday.

Learn from my misfortune.

Do not provide Hilton Ballater Scotland UK or any Hilton hotel in the UK with a pre-authorised debit or credit card payment.
It is not part of your contract when you booked your Hilton hotel.

We stayed in lodge 91 with a view across the Dee and onto the highlands.
We did not use any of the facilities but our limited contact with the staff showed them to be very professional.
The Lodge and its fittings are exceptional; it even has its own Sauna!
The only negatives were the cold rooms and the electricity bill.
We struggled to warm the lodge until we identified an unpleasant draught from the porch door.Once we blocked it we could keep the lodge warm.
The cost of electricity is very high. We were not in the lodge much and the bill was over £50. We were told this is at the lower end of electricity bills for the lodges. It is a shame they feel the need to overcharge like this, it adds a disagreeable element to the end of a good holida

Wonderful 3 bedroom lodge (lodge 10) up the hill, providing great views of the hills! Wonderful amenities - swimming pool, spa, tennis courts, squash courts (because of COVID you have to prebook which is a bit limiting - however, we only had a couple of instances during the week where the pool was at capacity, and we could return an hour or so later).
The lodge was really clean and they provided lots of extra bits like dishwasher tablets, tea and coffee, a cleaning caddy etc, which was really helpful.
Couldn’t recommend the relaxing setting enough.
Really friendly and helpful staff.
Check in info and welcome pack is all electronic because of COVID, but we found this really helpful - text messages direct to our mobiles with menus and booking info for the country club.

We visit Craigendarroch at least twice a year, and I'm delighted to say that the level of service mixed with the quality of lodges continues to get better each time.

As a family, we really love Ballater, so walking into the village from Craigendarroch is always a pleasure. Great local shops, cafes and restaurants to visit, and the people are exceptionally friendly. Not to mention that the area is steeped in history, with the Queens Balmoral castle only a stone throw away.

The hotel and lodges at Craigendarroch are always well maintained, with recent refurbishments making huge improvements from what was already a great resort. Each lodge has its own sauna which acts as an ideal warm-up if staying during the cold winter months.

Swimming pool and gym facilities are superb, and the restaurants/bar are superb. The staff have a pleasant, professional and helpful manner, nothing is ever unachievable.

Thanks to all once again, and we will be returning before the end of the year.

On arrival we were allocated our one bedroom lodge, no. 88. First impressions, door and steps dirty, inside immediately there was a real musty smell, and on going upstairs into living area in got worse. Went back to reception who said they’d send someone, Man came with a room spray, Then his supervisor came, both smelt it. So sent back to reception where a Manager would see us. Who came back and said she couldn’t smell anything, nor 2 other supervisors. Nothing she could do, couldn’t move us, as she said fully booked. The smell was there for our full stay, even candles made no difference. Left 2 days early. We are both elderly, and we’re looking for a nice relaxing stay, but no. It was the fact we weren’t believed.

Lodge very cold, no. 88 was only 1 of 7 out of 100 lodges facing this way. No daylight/ sunlight into
unit. Storage heaters, we used sparingly because we had to pay for electric. Had to use the two king size duvets, on bed, still cold. Shower over bath, high step over. Had to ask for “non slip” mat, as really slippery without. It arrived promptly.

Lounge bar lovely space, nice staff, especially lady on reception who checked us, though lady who checked us out, quite rude. Maintenance man came and showed us how to work heating, very good.
Very well equipped kitchen, bed comfortable, with good quality linens. Fluffy white towels. Ballater lovely little town, nice shops, cafe, restaurants.
We have been with our exchange company for around 30 years, with many, many exchanges all over the world, but this was our first ever exchange in the UK. And probably not do again, because of this experience.

The lodges are two story buildings and have stairs connecting the floors.

A pre-authorisation is taken on arrival to cover incidentals. This allows you to charge extras from the lounge / leisure club / spa to your lodge during your stay. The final payment is taken from this authorisation and any unused funds are released back to your account.
