The Staff were amazing, all so friendly and nothing was a problem. On arrival staff were wiping down doors handles, banisters and other areas in the hotel, we were always greeted with a lovey smile and social distance was always adhered to but nicely. We arrived on Friday and our room was spotless and the beds really comfortable with hot drinks etc for you to have later.
The hotel is situated about 10 minutes from the seafront but we chose this hotel as it is very quiet and next to The Byes a beautiful park where we could exercise the dog without going to far in the morning before breakfast.
As we were unable to take our dog into the restaurant we asked if we could have breakfast outside on the lawn and the choice was fantastic. We went with our son and his Fiance and we all enjoyed a relaxing time with plenty to do and many lovely walks and eating places were easy to find in Sidmouth to have a meal both inside or out, you can also eat at the hotel as well.
All in all, thank you to all the Staff for a wonderful stress free stay over the weekend. we loved our breakfast in the garden. we will be back, thanks.
The breakfast was very good and had no issues apart from there being no one greeting us at the door or any notices saying to wait to be shown to a table. We walked in on our first morning and were shouted at by a couple who were sitting on some couches outside waiting to be called in. We had no way of knowing they were waiting. I apologised and we duly waited by the door however 3 people totally ignored us and barged straight past and went to a table that had just been cleared.
We had one evening meal at the hotel. There is a set 3 course menu every evening with fairly limited options for each course. There is no a la carte menu. We waited for the menu to go on line every day to see if there was anything we wanted to eat. The menu didn't go on line till the afternoon on our last day and we decided that we would have an evening meal so when we returned to the hotel I went to reception to book it for 2 people only to be told the restaurant was full. I wasn't best pleased as we really didn't want to trek back to town again after a day out. At no time were we told to book early in the day or we would miss out. However, the situation was resolved after a few hours and we did indeed get our evening meal. The waiting staff were friendly and polite
The hotel is quiet and the grounds are lovely with super garden furniture to relax in.
Clearly the hotel is undergoing renovations as the corridor walk from reception to our room looked tired but if our room is an example of the renovations ,it is all very promising.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Everything was Covid secure with staff wearing visors and tables clearly marked and separated.
10 minute walk into town and beach and a lovely walk by the river via a private gate in the grounds.
Rooms are a generous size and well appointed. Oddly, they did not supply any glasses or cups for water. Found that odd, but not a problem. Mattress and pillows harder than is usual, but again not an issue for us.
The grounds are quite beautiful . The clientele is rather elderly, so dinner sittings are fairly early (6pm and 7.15).
The breakfasts were simply wonderful and the one evening meal we had there was first class too...agaon a LOT better than hotel food we'd eaten at a pricey hotel a couple of weeks ago.
The staff were also really really good.
Yes, there are minor niggles you'd expect with very old buildings... sticky doors etc...but on the whole, excellent and we are very likely to go back.
"For two adults this Hotel was perfect in every way. I think it might not suit young children. "Read full review
