Was highly recommended so we decided to stay over to properly enjoy the multi course taster menu for our anniversary. Couldn’t be more impressed. Superb food and an excellent wine list to accompany. Perfect hosts who really care about seeing their guests happy. Room was toasty, well appointed and even had its own outdoor space which would have been ideal if we’d brought our doggo too. Can see why they won Best Breakfast Award too. I don’t think we need to eat for a couple of days! Thank you Andy, Annette and Adam. Can’t wait to visit again,

We have just had an excellent meal at the Salty Monk. We were welcomed and shown to our table in a warm, and relaxing restaurant, instantly felt relaxed. The menu was varied and interesting. We choose from the 4 course menu. The “ small plates” as starters were delicious, so nice to have sharing dishes so you can try a little of everything. The bread was homemade, warm and fresh , and again utterly moorish. Our main course and pudding also delicious. We all felt that it was good value for a very special meal.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your evening we hope that the menu offers people the choice of enjoying lots of dishes so no food envy here!! We aim to provide good value for money but obviously, it is subjective to people's expectations so we also offer an a la carte menu for smaller appetites and budgets. Great quality ingredients, organic and free range are of course a given and we make everything on the premises so no ultra-processed or even processed food on the menu! We hope you are looking forward to a return visit soon

We have just got home from a lovely relaxing and comfortable stay at the Salty Monk. We’ve stayed in Sidmouth several times in the last 6 years, but had never stayed there. As we now have a small dog, we thought it sounded great given its proximity to The Byes (great dog walking). We really weren’t disappointed. Our room was bright and clean and there was everything we and our dog could need, plus a few treats for each of us. Our hosts were friendly to both to us and our dog. The atmosphere was so good, at breakfast the other guests chatted to us with Annette and Andy the owners/chef. It felt so relaxed and comfortable. And the food, we’ll that really was outstanding. Breakfast was a feast with so much to chose from. We also had dinner in the restaurant last night which was exceptional. All in all a wonderful couple of nights away which we hope to replicate soon.

Pros - We were warmly welcomed , our room was very comfortable and stylish.Breakfast was a delight and we also enjoyed supper one night- Excellent cooking. .The Salty Monk was a lovely place to stay, very friendly and efficiently run. There is a delightful garden and outside seating which because of the weather we did not use. We don’t usually stay in such a luxurious place and it was a real treat . Thank you. Cons- Loo and shower was very clean and attractive but a little challenging as there was nothing to hold onto if you are disabled However the owner provided me with a chair to use in the shower and was very helpful in suggesting a mobility shop in Sidmouth we could hire things from .

Excellent breakfast: great choices, well-cooked and so generous that we didn't need lunch(!). Friendly hosts. Some problems with internet access in the room, owing to local infrastructure rather than the hotel itself - 'welcome to Devon'.... Good location, ideal for exploring Sidmouth or further into Devon.

What a find. We loved this place and the ethos that the owners have. First the accommodation was lovely, light and airy with everything needed for a two night stay. We had dinner in the restaurant for both nights and were not disappointed. Their sampling starters and beautiful main courses and homemade desserts were a delight. All home cooked down to the fresh bread every day. Excellent wine selection and cocktails. Breakfast was a great selection. Contrary to the previous reviewer, we liked that we selected everything we wanted for breakfast. We don't like waste and clearly the owners had thought about this. There was a huge selection of items for breakfast, catering for everyone's tastes. Finally the ethos. It's clear that these hosts care about fresh, home cooked food with minimally processed ingredients and sustainability. I would recommend it in an instant. Oh and the location is fab too.

Thank you for your lovely review its always fabulous to give people a great experience and even better when they tell others too. We hope to see you again, East Devon is really beautiful with lots to do. Sadly the previous reviewer is in our industry and was telling me how they couldn't wait to leave it after 4 years, ironic really!

This was an interesting stay at The Salty Monk for us… we’d booked via booking.com for a 1 night stay in Bluebell room. Booking.com gave us an option of twin or large double. We booked large double but on arrival the owner showed us outside to the room without any introduction of where breakfast would be or anything. On arrival we straight away noticed twin beds instead of a double so we called the owner back and she said “oh well your not my customer your from booking.comm and they never told me” we informed her we had booked a double and she replied well you can push the beds together and I can get you a double duvet if you like!!! This stunned us into silence! No offer of remaking the bed to a double or offering another double room. We were told we had to preorder breakfast on a list and put it through the letter box which we duly did (beware you literally have to order down to the finite detail of your condiments which drink you want and literally everything!) Come morning it turned out we were the only customers there which may have explained the offish attitude we received.. The room was clean and comfortable even though it was twin beds, but it was really cold when we arrived late afternoon and took a few hours to warm up.. The boiler noise was constant and the road noise also a bit disturbing… it was unfortunate our stay was not what we expected and very expensive for the service and facilities offered. We stay in quite a few bandb’s and this was our most expensive and most disappointing so far. Unfortunately we won’t be returning here

Thank you for leaving us a review, good or bad they are important to us, so I am very sorry that you had a twin room made up for you on arrival, but Booking.com had not requested you a double, and I had made the room as a twin directly requested by them. I did offer to make the bed as a double bringing you a superking duvet when you brought it to my attention but you declined my offer. The tempur mattresses in that room provide an excellent no edge base superking bed when put together and so we do offer it as either. I can only offer my apologies for booking.com 's mistake we can as a business only set up their bookings on the information we are supplied by them, they do not allow rooms to be moved and their T&C's are different to our own. We can however listen to negative comments and try to provide solutions for our customers to resolve them, sometimes it is hard to negate things beyond your control and it may be that I need to check in with Booking.com in order to validate customer requirements in this particular room that can be a twin or a double to confirm or alternatively take the double option off of that room as we do have plenty of others to choose from in the same price range.

This was our first trip to Sidmouth, but definitely will not be the last; And if we do come back will stay at the Salty Monk once again. As we bought our fur baby with us, we stayed in one of the dog friendly rooms, which was extremely thought out for both needs!! Freshly cooked breakfast, room was clean with a high level to detail. Thank you we really enjoyed our stay :o)
