I booked this hotel for a short respite break for my mum who is full time carer to my dad. I called in advance and explained how much it meant to my mum especially (first break away since 2019 for her). Carol on reception went above and beyond and the room she gave us was amazing, Ill be forever grateful to her for making us feel so special. Only one small negative, you cannot take alcohol to the pool area, I had wanted to share a glass of champagne with my mum in the sunshine but sadly we were not allowed. Our joint age is over 100 and I understand not taking glass but I did think this was a little silly, just my opinion.

Hello Sara, Thank you so much for your lovely review. Thank you for mentioning Carol, I will make sure I pass your comments onto her, she will really love them. I apologise for our no alcohol, no glass by the pool rule, unfortunately due to previous instances it has proven to be necessary. I'm so pleased we were able to give you both a relaxing break and hope we will see you back soon. Kind Regards Leonie

We just returned home from a 4 night break at this wonderful hotel . The staff were extremely friendly in the hotel and restaurant team worked hard to keep everything rolling along , special mention to the funny bartender “James Bond “ who made us laugh and was a lovely chap !
We were a little worried due to the pandemic, but we needn’t have been ! . My hubby and I felt completely safe , and the hotel adhered to all Covid regulations . Check in ,we did online prior to arrival to reduce contact . We arrived at the hotel and managed to find a parking space , the car park was small ,however there is a large car park opposite that the hotel reimburse your payment . Hand sanitizers were clearly visible in the welcoming foyer, which we used before collecting our room keys . Check in was smooth and friendly and was even given a lovely gift and card as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary , a lovely gesture . We had our temperature checked with a standing scanner before heading to our room . Hotel staff all wore masks throughout and even stopped to let you walk past at a safe distance , we were encouraged to use the stairs however there is a lift available .
Beautifully decorated throughout the hotel , very modern and contemporary, again , hand sanitizers mounted on walls for you to use . We booked a superior sea view room with balcony and it was fantastic !
Huge room with a massive comfy bed and lovely views across the bay. All the lovely finishing touches including complimentary gin and sherry , bottled waters, spa slippers, bathrobe ,The White Company toiletries ,Mini-bar, Tea & coffee making facilities,Electric kettle, and Hairdryer, there was also a superb tea tray with an array of teas, hot chocolate ,expresso pods and little packets of biscuits which were welcomed after our drive.
Rooms can be cleaned daily but you can choose not to due to Covid but clean towels and replenishments will be left outside your room for you . The only thing that I would say is that the room was unbearably hot , the radiators were turned off so have no idea where the heat was coming from (would love to book again for next year, but the heat of the room puts us off in the summer ) We had our door open on the balcony and windows continually it so hot .
The restaurant was nicely spaced out and very well organised . Breakfast was delicious , great choice , eggs Benedict and egg royal were lovely . A little slow service on our last morning but as it was busy , this was understandable.
Overall ..we had a fantastic break , and will definitely be booking again next year .

We booked only a few days before and stayed monday to friday in the third week of october 20.
On arrival we were lucky to find a parking space in the small hotel carpark but then found the public carpark across the road, for which you are reimbursed, is closer than some hotel's own parking proves to be.
Reception was pleasant and efficient giving us the first "courtyard" room. They also printed out the times of the 4 breakfasts and 2 dinners we had to prebook as part of their Covid precautions.
The room, like the rest of the hotel, was nicely furnished and decorated with a chalky blue and white theme. There are all the things you would expect and more such as a Nesspresso coffee machine also complimentary gin and sherry(not replenished). The comfortable bed is huge with excellent quality linen and pillows. The twin sink bathroom is large, bright and well equiped although the shower lacks a hand held head and the shelf in the shower holds water that then runs along it. Although we were next to the hotel entrance it was very quiet and peaceful with the exception of the odd early morning delivery.
The location of the hotel is excellent with outstsanding views from the garden, pool, terrace and dining room/restaurant. It is a short stroll down to the sea front and from the back of the hotel it is easy to reach the top end of the town with it's restaurants, cinema and park. Walking in the area is good althought either direction on the SW Coast Path means a steep start.
The food we had was all good. Breakfast is table service as part of their well managed Covid restrictions. The sausages and eggs deserve a particular mention.
We drank in the comfortable lounge and ate in the restaurant on our first and last nights. As at breakfast the staff were all helpful and attentive although the restaurant manager was a little brusque. Perhaps we just caught him on a bad day. Twice.
We look forward to returning to Sidmouth, this hotel and are planning to try other hotels in this growing chain.

My daughter gave me a spa voucher as a Christmas present for this hotel. We thought it would be nice to have a mum and daughter overnight stay. We were not disappointed! When we arrived it was easy to park with ample spaces in the two car parks. The reception staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was small but very nice. We had booked a double room with a double bed....with hindsight we would have booked twin beds as the double bed felt a rather small. We used the gym, pool and jacuzzi which was all very nice and spotlessly clean. We were very pleased with our treatments and the spa staff were very friendly and welcoming which made us feel relaxed. We had dinner in the evening which was superb. The restaurant staff were impeccably trained and nothing was too much trouble. There was a 10% optional service charge on the bill which we were very happy to pay, as we were told it went straight to the staff. When we checked out we were told we could leave our car there while we walked into Sidmouth. It was only a short walk, and what a lovely town with some beautiful little shops. All in all we had a really lovely time and would highly recommended this lovely hotel.

Great location, Great Decor, Great Facilities - THE END

I arrived at Sidmouth HH after a grim journey stuck in traffic on M5 only to be met with a receptionist who could hardly look up from what she was doing and then I was greeted with 'Name'? Not the best start! From then on I was informed that because I hadn't booked my breakfast time slot online prior to my arrival I could only have 8am or 10 am Brekkie and the only dinner slot was 9.30pm (which I duly declined as was too late)

I was given a pokey albeit beautifully decorated room which was airless and too warm. The shower the following morning was a dribble of either very hot or freezing cold water not conducive to a good start to the day. I mentioned the problem with the shower and was advised that someone would see to it while I was out. I returned later that day after a coastal walk only to find that the shower had not been fixed. When I asked the same receptionist she told me she would send someone to sort it.
I was then told that the shower needed a new part so they would have to move me to the room next door - no apology for inconvenience.

A replica room to No.29 although joy ...a bath which meant I could soak my weary limbs after my hike. No such luck as the hot water was barely hand hot. I couldn't be bothered to complain again.

My lack of dinner opportunity meant that I had to opt for a light snack in the bar area. I sat for 25 minutes totally unnoticed even thoughI kept raising my hand for attention.
I then decided to retire to my pokey little room and order room service. Almost an hour later it arrived.

My second and last morning was no better. Delightful waitress in dining room who must be mentioned as she was the one redeeming feature of all the staff.
I ordered fruit salad followed by scrambled egg and mushroom. No sooner had I taken my second spoon of fruit salad then my hot food was thrust under my nose by a young waiter. When I pointed out that I wasn't ready for my 'main course' he just stood there until I recommended he take it back to the kitchen. In all truth I wish he had binned it in the kitchen as the Scrambled egg was practically raw, swimming in a yellow puddle and the mushrooms were old, wrinkled and hardly cooked. Time for a sharp exit...

I checked out with the same receptionist who had greeted me so warmly (not) on my arrival. No ' How did you enjoy your stay', was everything alright - big fat ZERO.

Disappointed doesn't even start to say how I feel. These rare weekends away should be little nuggets of joy. Not often that I feel the need to write a Trip Advisor review whilst sitting in my car having just checked out.

Rather put off visiting any of the other Harbour hotels now.

Sidmouth HH you have serious Staff issues mainly the fact that your reception staff are not suited to the hospitality industry.

I booked direct with the hotel requesting a twin room for my daughter and myself. We were given a very large room (161) with a large double bed. I spoke with reception who said they were full so could not offer another room until the following day. I asked if there was a single room so that at least we could have one night in separate beds. (I am not particularly well and would disturb my daughter’s sleep by needing the bathroom several times throughout the night.) I was given a single room (25) and my daughter remained for one night in the double.
We packed everything up the next morning and were told we could leave our luggage in the function room until a new room could be prepared. Later that day we were given a twin bedded room (room 25 we were told it was an upgrade as it had a sea view). The beds were touching! There was no room to separate them as the room was too small. Again, I spoke with reception who said they had a twin room for one night and a different room for the next night.
We then moved to room 158. Had twin beds thankfully that were close together but were so big, my nocturnal problems would not bother my daughter. However, the window looked out to a wall. Not a good view. The rain shower over the bath looked amazing but has a design fault. The water falls onto the shelf around the bath and makes it way to the floor. Our clothes then became soaked.
The following day we were out and the hotel tried to contact but we had no signal. A voicemail was left to say another room was available. In our return we packed everything up and vacated the room. I went to reception to collect the new keys and was told as I hadn’t replied immediately to the voicemail; they had made the decision to keep us in that room instead. We had just packed everything! This was NOT the relaxing break I had expected.
To be fair to the hotel, the beds and bedding are good quality. The furnishings are excellent and the safety measures for Covid-19 are splendid.
We had breakfast everyday and the selection was excellent. We thought we would have dinner out but everywhere was full so we had dinner 3 times at the hotel. Again, the food and service was excellent. We had a mixture of a la carte and from the fixed price menu. Very, very good food. 5 stars for the restaurant and the staff.
Our only gripe is not having the requested twin room. But I would certainly recommend this hotel and would love to return.

My husband an I stayed on a Saturday night and had a seaview room. The stay was on bed breakfast and evening meal basis at £279 per night. We drove past the hotel due to building works going on you couldnt see the entrance, then struggled to find somewhere to park. The room was nice but you shared your balcony with two or more other rooms and could see in their room. The room was stifling even with the window wide open and the gale force wind. The toiletries were very nice as was the complimentary sherry and gin in the room but you paid for the tonic. The restaurant if you can call it that is basically the end of the bar area with a long settee seperating it. We were given a restaurant table but this was more in the bar area and didnt feel part of the restaurant. You are allowed £27.50 each towards the meal. The evening meal was very good but lacking vegtables. I had steak which came with chips and two tomatoes. Hubby had fish which was a piece of cod on mashed potatoes. Starter was a prawn cocktail and for £12 I expected something special not something i could have done at home but hubbies scollops were lovely. Other than the position of the table the person who showed us to the table dressed in a suit was quite sourly. The pool area is nice but the steam and sauna are like getting in a cupboard, the pool is lovely as is the jacuzzi. Breakfast if not in the deal was in the region of £20. My husband had the full english which consisted of 1 egg, 1 slice of bacon, 1 mushroom and 1 sausage. I had the eggs royal which had no garnish and felt like it was plonked on a plate. The toast and coffee were both cold and when we asked for some fresh coffee there were bits floating in it. The croissant was stale. The head waiter was quite ignorant and plonked our plates down with no offer of sauces. We had to get someone’s attention in order to get them to take our order. Other than the two staff mention all other members of staff were very pleasant and helpful. All in all would I stay again, no way. If you can do without a pool go to the Harbour Hotel at Fowey it has character, the restaurant is beautiful, the food excellent, it doesnt have a carpark but you can park near it, and the rooms and views far surpass the Sidmouth hotel.

We have just returned from a great 3 night stay at the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel, conveniently situated a short stroll from the town ,with stunning views across the bay. Our courtyard rooms were excellent - spacious, modern and well furnished. We had a slight problem with the basin in one of the bathrooms but this was dealt with immediately and handled very well. The hotel was spotless throughout and the staff were efficient , professional and friendly Parking was easy either on - site or in the large public car park opposite with the fee reinbursed by the hotel.. The present times are challenging for everyone. The tremendous effort being put in by all at the Sidmouth Harbour was much appreciated

Back again for our second visit for Dinner and our first meal out during this unfortunate Covid19 pandemic which I will touch upon first. As you will see on the web page, the door as you enter and many signs up around the hotel, masks are mandatory while walking around the hotel and you may remove them outside and/or when you sit down for you meal. However, this doesn’t seem to be informed as many (mostly hotel guests) were happy to cut through the hotel without masks on and even one lad was happy to point and laugh at my partner who was wearing a mask. I would say around 50% of people adhered to the mandatory masks while walking around. I understand it’s hard to make everyone adhere to rules but, if you are going to make something mandatory I would have liked to think that you would at least address it as you may put off people who are worried to come out during these unfortunate times.

This said the staff, waiters were all wearing masks which we applaud, we had hand santitizer at the table and tables were spread out enough that you didn’t feel close to anyone.

I was a little disappointed with my cheese soufflé starter as I found it lacking flavour although cooked really well. My partner enjoyed her duck terrine though which was full of flavour.
We both had the Chicken, Prawn and Lobster Bisque though which comes on a bed of mash and leak. The prawn was already prepared and the head was left on for decoration.
We both had desserts which although usually my least favourite part of the meal I really enjoyed my chocolate fondant with mint chocolate ice cream and my partner enjoyed her sorbet.

The meal was mostly enjoyable, we thought that the main arrived too quickly after our starter and would have liked longer to settle in between courses. They had only taken the starter plates away and within 5 minutes our main had arrived which we were not ready for.

Like I mentioned the staff at the restaurant and tables made us feel comfortable during covid19 however, some customers were not adhering to the rules when moving around the hotel.

I loved Sidmouth Harbour Hotel. Beautiful scenic setting, amazing restaurant & really lovely decor. Big comfy bed. I would still visit again and still recommend it to others.

The only frustrating thing was that when we booked, we requested a ‘quiet room’ when asked of any requirements. Despite this, we were given a room on the ground floor of the courtyard where cars were parking literally a foot away from our heads while we were in bed.. as the window was directly next to the narrow pavement and road (& opposite the pay & display car park).

Out front on the other side of the room was a bench used for all the linen & bedroom changes.. so this was being attended to from early hours of the morning.

So ultimately we could barely open a window on either side (road or courtyard) despite the room being scorching hot (there’s no way of controlling the heating- all centrally controlled- very strange). I’m sure there were quieter rooms!! And what on earth is going on with the heating?! We just wanted heating down if we couldn’t open windows due to noise!! Swelteringly hot!!

Thanks so much. Thought it was best to give honest feedback as maybe you didn’t know. We did love the place, but a different room would have been the absolute icing on the cake as it was so frustrating given our request for a quiet room 🙂🙂

Hi Don't believe some of the negative reviews, it's a lovely hotel with great views and a great location Just be aware, that the parking is terrible but there is a car park over the road refundable from the hotel. Meals are OK but the service is a bit slow due to shortage of staff. You will have a great time
