My wife & I had a lovely short stay in the Faulkner Suite. The suite was very well appointed, clean and beautifully decorated. The position, overlooking the promenade and sea, was exceptional, and we enjoyed some relaxing time on the balcony soaking up the atmosphere. The staff at the hotel, where we had three meals, were very attentitive and friendly, providing a high standard of service throughout. All three meals (afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast) were very good, with plenty of choice, including some gluten-free alternative bread and cake on request. We enjoyed the more traditional service and comfortable setting, as opposed to the modern obsession with buffet / self-service meals in stark rooms, and the food was well presented and cooked and very tasty. Portion sizes were just right too. Parking at the hotel was easy, convenient and well managed. We would definitley recommend this lovely hotel (and its suites) for anyone looking for a great location with high quality service at very good value for money. We look forward to staying again.

Went here on a New Year Break with Ellen Smith Coach tours. Room 11 was small but comfortable with twin beds and a side sea view, it was warm and cosy and the bathroom although small was adequate with a walk in shower, toilet and wash hand basin, toiletries were provided. The hotel throughout is spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming with staff that can't do enough to please. Special mention to Jack. The restaurant and food both at breakfast and evening meal were excellent with a wide variety of choice and all served to you at your table (no buffet here). New Years Eve Gala dinner was excellent. A little disappointed with the entertainment ( understand that the pre booked artiste had cancelled and a last minute replacement had been brought in). We were also looking forward to the advertised fun Casino but for some reason this didn't materialise. The free individual bottles of Prosecco distributed to bring in the New Year was a very nice touch.

We visited the Royal Y &F during folk week and have just returned home. It is situated on the Esplanade at Sidmouth and is at sea level, The nearest I can ever sleep to the sea. I cannot speak highly enough regarding the staff and administration of the hotel. Any issue we had was quickly dealt with and help with luggage was available - so helpful.
As always there was a waiter service with white crisp tablecloths and polished cutlery. the food was delicious, imaginative and the choice of food given catered for a wide variety of tastes. As a lover of poached eggs - they arrived perfectly cooked.
For those of you thinking about booking at this hotel - please note, you won't get a modern stainless steel gleaming hotel. It is an old Victorian building which at various points has slightly undulating floors and it is quaint in the sense that there is a kind of past elegance, in the décor and the grandfather clock that chimes the time away. What you will get is good old fashioned courtesy, service, afternoon tea , homemade cakes and a lot of good will.
Priceless.

The room on the third floor had a fabulous sea view as the hotel faces the sea with the road and promenade in front. This gives plenty to watch. The beds were comfortable and linen good, bedside lights, clean well stocked bathroom with plenty hot water. There is a lift. The hotel maintains an old fashioned service with waiter service for breakfast. This I found far from ideal as I never really got what I would have liked. The buffet style is much better for choice and amounts. There is afternoon tea which is very repetitive and too soon before dinner at 6 30pm. Again waiter service for dinner but that is more suitable for that meal. Too many courses. I would prefer less and improve the quality. There was a second course which was excellent, pasta in a gruyere and leek sauce. But most of rest was mediocre. My friend and I stayed 4 days half board. There is a small car park at the back of the hotel and one has to hand the car keys at reception so that cars can be moved in and out of spaces as required. Pleasant lounges with after dinner coffee and selection of mints. I wonder how long this old style will last.

Great hotel right on the sea front, with a shingle beach just across the road. The hotel has gone through a refurbish program, our room was very comfortable with a recently refurbished bathroom with a shower over the bath. We had a side sea view room, but I would recommend a full sea view room, some of these have a balcony. The food was superb with a four course dinner plus coffee and mints in the lounge afterwards. There were fresh flowers in the entrance hall, and behind the reception, these little touches make all the difference. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Both Sophia and Abi were very friendly and helpful and really made our dining experience. The bar prices for a hotel were very reasonable with a pint of lager at just £4.30. If you are looking for a hotel in Sidmouth this is a great option. We would without doubt stay here again. Congratulations to all at “The Royal Faulkner Hotel”

My wife and I came here for a two night stay as a late anniversary treat. Upon checking in we found the hotel to be very clean and the reception staff friendly and courteous. Our room was a double with a lovely view looking out on the promenade and gorgeous sea view. The hotel was very well heated and we slept the first night with the window open listening to the waves lapping on the beach just a few meter's away. Unfortunately, the mattress in our room was beyond it's best and both me and my wife didn't have the best night's sleep. Hopefully the mattress will be replaced soon.
The breakfast, next day was a lovely traditional spread of fruit, fry ups and toast as well as cereal and porridge with plenty of tea or coffee. the waiting staff were extremely attentive. The restaurant in the hotel was a fantastic old fashioned room with fancy crockery and cutlery.
After a day out and about we came back to the hotel and had a nice cup of tea in one of the lounges which was extremely peaceful and beautifully decorated and furnished with old style chairs, furniture and grandfather clocks.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will be returning as soon as we can.

As far as I am aware the Name ‘Sidmouth’ is not widely associated with the title of ‘Coastal Resort’. But on reflection that is maybe why it is so delightful. It is, due to it’s Geography, quite compact, so there aren’t dozens of Hotels there to attract Vacationers from all quarters of the Nation, or further afield.
In a way that is a shame, for the Resort, but the fact that it does not appear crammed with visitors is, to me, part of it’s attraction.
The Royal York and Faulkner Hotel has an ideal position, sited on the Promenade, Seafacing, and a short walk from the Centre of Town. It has an elegant Frontage, displaying it’s Architectural Heritage. Inside there is good quality accommodation, service, sustenance, entertainment and refreshment.
Our Four night stay was most pleasant. We enjoyed the Fayre provided by the Kitchens, both at Breakfast and in the Evening. The Bar was reasonably priced and well stocked, but disappointingly for my Wife, didn’t offer Cocktails. Bar expenses may be paid for directly, or charged to your room and settled on checkout.
Staff were friendly and efficient, particularly in the Restaurant. The Evening Entertainment was varied and competent. Altogether the Hotel was worthy of a recommendation.
Our’s was a Coaching Trip, so transport was provided, but those who travel by private vehicle may find parking close to the Hotel a bit pot-luck.
As of Autumn 2023 the Hotel was reportedly up for Sale. If it has changed hands since our visit, it can only be hoped that the new owners maintain the previous high standards.
Major Credit Cards are accepted.

Well-appointed single room and comfortable bed. Room with sea view enhanced the experience. Nice touch was refillable bottle of filtered water ready on arrival. Food very good. Friendly and helpful staff. Several lounges to choose from. Situated right on the esplanade very convenient for those with decreased mobility.

We have stayed in Sidmouth many times over the years, and we always come back to the Royal York and Faulkner - it has never disappointed.
This time we stayed in a sea view room with a balcony, which was excellent - very spacious and with comfortable beds and two easy chairs. The room had blackout curtains, which are very necessary as the balcony has downlighters to illuminate the front of the building.
Sadly the weather was only good for sitting out on the balcony for about fifteen minutes(!) but we did spend a lot of time in the evenings sitting in the room and enjoying the sea, looking out over the balcony to the people and dogs walking along the esplanade and the beach.
The staff, as always, were excellent - friendly, helpful and polite.

I’ve been visiting the Royal York & Faulkner since 2021 with friends, several times each year, and it’s my favourite place to stay in Sidmouth. The location is perfect - right next to the sea and the shops - yet the hotel has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. It’s warm, spacious and comfortable. I love its 3 lounges - all different - and the characterful wood-panelled dining room.
The food is always excellent - there’s a wide choice at breakfast and generous four course dinner. Service is friendly and efficient. Personally I’d prefer a wider choice of wines in the bar.
I’ve stayed in many different rooms and all are very comfortably furnished, with plenty of storage space, attention to detail and spotlessly clean bathrooms.
The most outstanding feature of the hotel is its friendly, helpful staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Reception staff are always available to answer queries and if there’s a problem (previously I’ve had a tv handset which didn’t work and a stuck window) it’s never difficult to get hold of someone and it’s dealt with straight away.
On my last visit, I had a problem with my car. The owners and staff stepped in to help so that it didn’t spoil my stay. Their level of support was exceptional and I am incredibly grateful to them.
I can’t wait to return for my next visit in December!
