Standing on the headland, near Scarborough's ancient castle ruins, the Norbreck is the only hotel in town which looks out over both the North and South Bays, with breathtaking panoramic sea view. From this peaceful location you can rest in the convivial atmosphere of the bar lounge or in the comfort of the restaurant and savour the scenic sights of golden sands and ocean waters. In the hub of the town itself, lying just ten minutes' away, there is an array of shops and holiday attractions. While a day trip takes you to York or to see the moors, to test your nerves at Flamingo Land or to revisit 'Brideshead' at Castle Howard. There's such a lot to see and do in the area! The hotel does not have a car park. However street parking is available nearby.

The Norbreck is in the most perfect location, enjoying breath taking views over both the North and South bays in beautiful Scarvegas.
On arrival at the hotel, I was given a really warm welcome. Check-in was quick and efficient, and I was able to purchase a parking permit for the duration of my stay which was ridiculously cheap at £4.
My room on the 3rd floor had gorgeous views across the North bay. Just a personal preference but I wasnt overly keen on the grey in the room and found it a little depressing, but this is just my opinion. The room had everything I needed and had a really good sized bathroom which also had a shower over the bath.
The bed was so comfortable with lovely crisp white linen and I had the most wonderful sleep whilst I was there, drifting off to the sound of the sea. Heaven!
Breakfast was nice and served buffet style. The hot food was replenished regularly .... I really enjoyed the great, runny eggs each morning and the sausages were very tasty.
Aside from this, what I took away from the Norbreck was just how lovely all the staff were. Unlike many places, it is nice to be able to say that they hotel is well-staffed with really friendly, welcoming professionals. It made my stay a really lovely experience. I hope to be back again soon.

We stayed recently with our dog at this hotel and had a very pleasant and comfortable time.

The hotel is perfectly positioned near the castle, and is a 5/10 minute walk in either direction to eateries, bars and many attractions.

The staff at the hotel are a credit and make the experience very pleasant.

Dogs are allowed in the bar/entertainment area and prices at the bar are reasonable. Dogs can’t go in the restaurant which is fair enough, so we didn’t get to try the food in there. The hotel did offer to set a table in the bar area for breakfast for us which was a really nice touch. We went armed with our own plates, knives and forks and used Just Eat for evening food and also wandered out on an evening to collect food. We were able to eat at a little table in our room watching the sea view which was really relaxing.

We had a wonderful sandwich and some of the nicest chips for lunch when we arrived. We had to wait roughly an hour for our room key as Booking.com suggested a 2 pm check in time, but check in is actually 3.00 pm.

The car park is very small but you can buy a two day street pass for £2 or four day for £4 which is incredibly cheap and you can park near the hotel.

The entertainment on an evening for Friday and Saturday was pleasant but there was a disruptive, incredibly ‘intoxicated’ couple on the Friday that put a bit of a spanner in the works. The hotel refused any further service to them and they eventually cleared off which was a blessing and was nothing to actually do with the hotel per se and handled well. It was quite a surprise for such a quiet relaxing hotel but as they say, there is always one, or two in this instance.

Our room was pleasant with a sea view. The shower was spot on. We had one of the newly refurbished rooms on the first floor and we would definitely book the room again. The beds were also really comfy and the hot chocolate (amongst tea and coffee etc) was the nicest we’ve had!

We had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay again. Thank you

We are so happy to hear that you had a wonderful stay and happier still that you have left us a wonderful review. Dogs have always been most welcome, we know all too well that our four legged friends are an integral part of any dog loving family. What better treat than to have them come along on the family holiday, no more draughty kennels! We look forward to welcoming the whole family again soon Kind Regards, Laurie Simpson General Manager

Arrived at the hotel after a nice walk from the train station via a couple of pubs. We bought our dog with us and was happy to see many dogs at the hotel. Check in was fast, lovely lady checked us in and gave us directions to our room. We was on floor 3 and was more than happy with our room. We had room 317 on the front of the hotel above the restaurant and the views were lovely. Room and bathroom were small but for us that was no issue as it was just somewhere for us to sleep.
The hotel is in a great location close to both beaches of Scarborough. There was a guy doing some painting to the outside areas of the hotel which was looking fresh. The rooms looked like they’d had a refresh not too long ago too. The bar was good, nice and friendly lady behind the bar, brilliant that you could take your dog in. Gentleman on reception when we got back was chatty and friendly too.
Bed was very comfy and due to the location of our room we never heard any noise from other guests during the night.
Breakfast was included and was a buffet style, one of the best breakfasts I’d had in a long time. You wasn’t allowed dogs in the restaurant but you could take your food into the bar so you didn’t have to leave your dog in your room.
All in all was a very enjoyable stay and if we was to visit Scarborough again we would definitely stay here.

My Twin Sister and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights last week and had a thoroughly enjoyable and hospitable stay from the moment we checked in until we checked out. One of the highlights of our stay was all of the fantastic staff - David the Restaurant Manager was so efficient and friendly and a real credit to the hotel, along with Matt and Ellie serving in the restaurant, and Helen serving behind the bar who were always very friendly and attentive. The evening entertainment was great fun and we thoroughly enjoyed playing Bingo every night. Our room was always spotlessly clean and well stocked with tea and coffee making facilities-we stayed in room 307 which had spectacular views of North and South Bay. We would definitely recommend the hotel to friends and family and hope to be returning in the near future.

We went here with an open mind as this hotel was formerly a Shearings basic Bay hotel. It’s in a great position overlooking the whole of North Bay. Really nice restaurant with views all round and a spacious lounge/bar. Although we were only able to book a standard room we were quite pleased with it. Fairly small but .we looked out over North Bay and the shower room also had a large window which gave it a light and airy feel. Plenty of shelving for toiletry storage but the mirror over the washbasin was fine if your are 6ft tall! Parking here is also an issue as the hotel car park can only accommodate 6 cars. Lots of free on street parking courtesy of permits from the hotel but difficult to find a space nearby. The main problems we had were with the restaurant. Limited choice but looked ok. Friday evening and fish chip and peas were on the menu. When it came there were no chips instead ‘crushed’ potatoes and overcooked and soggy cauliflower and broccoli. Apparently there were no chips available! Both our meals were lukewarm. Saturday evening and Lemon Sole was on the menu - or so I thought but it turned out to be cod. At least I was forewarned. Tonight everything was hot. One item on the dessert menu had also been replaced. Our worst experience was Sunday morning breakfast. We sat at our table for over half an hour and no one came to take our order. Enough was enough when we saw that several people who had come in after us were eating their breakfasts. At that point we left, voiced our complaints at Reception and went elsewhere for breakfast. During our stay our room wasn’t serviced and when we and several other guests enquired we were told that it was due to Covid restrictions. But that didn’t stop our tea ab coffee supplies being replenished each day. On the Sunday the newspapers were removed from the waste bin but the bin wasn’t emptied and all our towels were taken and two bath towels left in their place. I found it strange that the rooms weren’t serviced as last month my husband and I had a short hotel break and our rooms were tidied each day. As I said lovely hotel but spoilt by the service.

Thankyou for posting your review and it's such a shame to hear that we fell short of our usual high standards on this occasion regarding our food offering and breakfast service. I have actioned this and we now have a new head chef who is shaping up to be an excellent addition to our team. Regarding COVID restrictions, we do operate a stay over clean on request but as a rule no one will enter your room until departure day. As you are probably aware, these restrictions are soon to change and we can get back to some sense of normality with a daily service to your room and indeed a buffet breakfast. I hope that this experience hasn't dissuaded you from staying with us again, it would be good to show you how things have improved. Kind Regards, Laurie Simpson General Manager

Stayed here Oct 29th -1st November 2021.

Arrived early friday morning, so managed to get parked on the street outside the hotel and paid for a parking ticket at reception to display on my car's dashboard.

Hotel reception staff were very friendly, welcoming and informative when I arrived with my dog. Booking.com seemed to have check -i n time wrong, but I didn't mind the wait.

Room was clean and had amazing sea views over the north bay. Coffee sachets were missing from the room, but I always take extra anyways and I'm sure if Id mentioned it, this would have been rectified. Kettle was clean and scale free.

Toilet and shower were spotless and had a good supply of toilet paper. Would have prefered a shower gel dispenser in the shower, rather than the rather small bottle. Heated towel rail kept towels nice and dry.

Wardrobe was big enough and had plenty of hangers. Draw space was adequate. Bed was very comfortable and slept very well.

Cannot fault the staff at all. They were all very friendly and gave my elderly dog plenty off fuss and attention. Special mention for Gina on reception who is a credit to the hotel. She was very friendly, courteous and helpful. Also Chris on the bar and the friendly night porter.

I will return!

Craig Mason (room 218)

We stayed at the Norbreck last week on a five day coach break with Shearings. The hotel is located high up next to the castle and overlooking the sea on the North Bay. It has wonderful views, and there are fantastic walks from the hotel in every direction. It is only a short walk into town or to the many attractions in Scarborough.
The hotel is warm and clean, and has been refurbished with new windows and fresh paintwork. The three of us had two rooms, one on the front, and one on the back, and both had sea views, the front facing the North Bay, and the back facing the South Bay. The view of the bay from the dining room is amazing.
The food is good, lovely buffet breakfasts, and a choice of evening meals.
The staff are fantastic, everyone is friendly and there is a happy relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and bar. The staff are very efficient, cheerful, and nothing was too much trouble.
There was housekeeping during our stay and every day we got fresh towels, toiletries and milk from reception.
It was a pleasure to stay here, and I would certainly recommend the hotel, especially if you like walking.

My sister, her dog and I stayed for one night. We stayed in room 201, which has a beautiful view of North Bay (see image). We didn’t eat in the restaurant so I can’t comment on the food but the room we stayed in was very nice. Clean, spacious and comfortable. There is a small lift next to reception and a ramp for wheelchair/pram users which leads to and from the dining room to outside. The staff when we stayed were very friendly and approachable. The hotel is situated right on the cliff and has wonderful views and some (but limited) parking, which you pay for via a scratch card from the hotel - £2 for up to 2 nights, £4 for up to 4 nights.

We enjoyed our stay so much we are already planning on returning next year!

Location was perfect, views from front door were picturesque, however the rest of the stay was below average. Our room was situated at the top of the stairs that made a loud banging sound whenever someone passed through it. Walls are paper thin, we were woken up both mornings before 7am (not my kind of holiday) by people talking in corridors outside the room. The room was dire with water damaged walls and cracks throughout, dust everywhere and stained curtains. Breakfast was barely edible and cold. I can only imagine this hotel is still running because of it’s location as there is nothing else there worth paying the shocking £100 pn charge. Will not be returning!

It's sad to read that you didn't enjoy your stay, we will investigate the stained curtains which is unacceptable. I did note that there was no other mention of a cold breakfast, our breakfast is kept hot during service on chaffing dishes, perhaps if this matter had been raised at the time we could have investigated fully and rectified any issues. We wish you well on your future travels Kind Regards, Laurie Simpson General Manager

I first visited the Norbrek hotel Scarborough about five years ago and was not overly impressed. My friend wanted me to go with her and I was very pleasantly surprised. I rang ahead to ask for a quiet room and spoke to Peter on reception, When I arrived I was given a lovely room with beautiful sea views and yes it was quiet, The only downside the pillow was too hard for me, but you can’t please everyone. The food at breakfast and dinner had improved 100%, I am a pescatarian but there were always two choices at every course, my friend is a meat eater and she thoroughly enjoyed her meals as well. All the staff will warm, friendly, and efficient. I must mention David the restaurant manager who also covered in reception, The Norbrek are very lucky to have him, nothing was too much trouble. I will certainly go back to this hotel in the near future.

Need to ask hotel. They give you a ticket you put in your car windscreen its £2 a day and you can park in zone A2 which is the streets surrounding the hotel area. Trouble is if you move you need to find another space on your return.

There’s a small car park for around 6-7 cars but there’s parking outside on the street and the hotel will give you a parking permit to display in your window, the parking is very busy so it’s just luck of the draw I’m afraid
