First time here and we will definitely be back. We stayed in Swallows Nest Cottage. It was stunning and cosy. Everything in it was excellent quality and loads of little extras, they have thought of everything. Under floor heating, towels & logs for the burner included, comfy beds. The children went out each morning to feed the animals with farmer Percy - loads of animals and the highlight was taking the little Shetland out for a walk. Some lovely sign posted walks, eve th dog had a great time! Not far to drive to the beach either. Childrens play area on site, reception, little shop and cafe. We came out of season but still plenty to do. Great place!

Many thanks for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm in one of our luxury cottages with a hot tub. Swallows Nest is a beautiful cottage and as you mention in your review, we have tried to think of everything to make a stay memorable and relaxing. Thank you for mentioning the cottage extras and of course as we are on our working farm, we encourage our guests to meet Farmer Percy and join him on his rounds. One of the many special aspects about Humble Bee Farm is our farm walks, of which we have three signposted ones. These take in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds countryside and offer great views of our farm and its accommodation. Thank you for mentioning the children’s play area, our office/reception and The Hive. The Coast is just a few miles away from us too, along with other places to visit. We thank you so much for your review and for choosing Humble Bee Farm, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

This is a lovely place and can see why it’s so appealing to families. I visited with my partner and although it was really nice there were a few things that annoyed us that I think are worth sharing: We stayed in the premium lodge with a hot tub which was really comfortable. It was definitely overpriced compared to other similar glamping sites but was perfectly located for us so decided to book anyway on the basis that it would be a luxury treat. 1) I had to pay extra for wood (for the price of the lodge you’d expect a complimentary bag). You’re not allowed to bring your own wood onto the site and if you want any more it’s £12 per bag. Considering you can buy the same thing in a supermarket for £7, I feel that they are making a healthy profit on this. 2) the wifi just didn’t work at all. Not so much an issue if you want to go off grid but I wouldn’t advertise it if you can’t deliver on it. 3) you have to strip your own bedding. I understand during Covid times why this was a requirement for infection control reasons, but we were rushing (for our 10am checkout) to get the beds stripped and trust me, I can go basic and really don’t mind where the price is reflected but it’s frustrating that for £242 per night, you have to do the cleaners job for them. 4) they take a £100 deposit for damages which, after reading the small print on booking terms, you only get back if you phone and request it, otherwise I assume they’d just keep it. Basically I feel like it was overpriced and a bit of a ‘money grabbing’ business which ruined how nice the lodge and grounds were which is why I’ve had to give it 3 stars based on value for money

Thank you for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm in one of our spacious, fully heated Lodges, which comes with its own private hot tub. We are in a beautiful location, of which we are very proud and we always endeavour to keep our surroundings appealing for everyone. As you’ve gone into considerable detail about the many elements of your stay that ‘annoyed’ you, we are of course permitted to offer a full and ready response for the benefit of review readers. You mention we are ‘overpriced’. What you neglect to say is that the following is included in the Lodge tariff: Up to six guests. Two private car parking spaces. Gorgeous hot tub. All heating, lighting and hot water. Fresh bedding and towels. All crockery, cutlery etc. Outdoor facilities (BBQ etc). Free super fast premium WIFI. Access to the firepit. Access to all the site’s facilities including walks, the farmyard, play areas, the Reflection Garden and more. We also have our onsite café The Hive and a shop/reception for our guests to use. So now we come to your comments with regards to the firewood, which of course is an optional extra. Many sites charge a similar amount and you’ve not mentioned is the wood can be preordered (and therefore delivered to your accommodation by our team). The fee also covers the firepit usage and maintenance by our staff. We make it categorially clear that you can’t bring your own wood in our T&Cs although of course other sites may allow this, it will depend on their own T&Cs and Fire Regs. The cost of the Wi-Fi is included in the Lodge tariff, we provide a premium free wifi for Lodge bookings and if there is a problem with the Wi-Fi, (which is rare) then all a guest needs to do is pop up to reception during opening times and assistance will be given willingly. With regard to the bedding, and guests are doing the work of the cleaners. We strongly deny the comment that you HAVE to strip your own bedding. This is simply not the case. We request that guests strip the beds but it is a request only, and if guests do this, we appreciate it. It is a request only and it is up to the guest to do this or not, as the case maybe. With regards to the damage deposit. Yes, again, we make it clear in our T&Cs that guests do need to call in to get their damage deposit fully refunded. The vast majority of our guests do this and do this without question. We can see your booking was made online, and there is a notice prior to paying about the damage deposit and how this is returned. While you are entitled to your opinion, we have to say that ‘money grabbing’ is not an accurate one. We run our beautiful site as a business that supports scores of local businesses, provides employment for our staff, helps us to maintain the standards on our site including our facilities and helps keep our accommodation portfolio to the standards expected by our guests, many of which return time and again to enjoy. We thank you for the three stars and we hope that our response provides a more balanced and accurate ‘picture’ of our independent, family-run business here in the Yorkshire Wolds.

Stayed here twice so far and apart from the cafe being closed due to a refurb we had an amazing time over the half term. The accommodation was clean, upto date and in good condition. The only thing I would like to see improved is the wi-fi signal towards the yurts. Though having no tech has its advantages. We didn’t Halloween walk and pumpkin carving during the stay which my kids loved. It’s also a really good base to use for visits to Whitby etc.

We absolutely love humble bee farm! There’s a great choice of accommodation for all budgets. We have stayed in a cabin and a yurt and thought both were perfect for our needs. We loved roasting marshmallows at night and that the kids were able to explore and go to the park safely. The little cafe is great for morning coffee, breakfast pizza night and cocktails if you want a little treat. It’s a great bit of luxury. The kids loved the activities provided like little farmers club and the games night (school holidays) all staff so friendly and helpful. Such a nice vibe here and the kids are already asking to return.

Booked one of only two tourer pitches and had an amazing few days. Clean site, great cafe and the hosts were so lovely. Lots to do for the children helping with the animals and in the barn and even a magician came to entertain the children one night. Happy hour for drinks and a shop for essentials. Safe for children to run around and amuse themselves. Great spot, access to Filey and Scarborough nearby and a lovely stay. Definitely will return.

Just returned from a family holiday (kids aged 9 and 6) - we had a yurt ‘rabbit warren’ for 3 nights. Friendly and helpful staff Very clean site and quiet in the evenings. Nice games field with small play area and space to play footy or frisbee Activities in the barn - nice touch felt it’s aimed more for younger kids. Would be nice to use this space for movie nights - outdoor cinema would be good for when the weather not great or evening entertainment. Nice feeding the animals with farmer Percy every morning at 9am. Shame we never found any eggs - my kids were up early everyday 🤷‍♀️ Good morning coffee from the Hive. Small onsite shop but Morrisons and other supermarkets a short drive away. Shower and toilet facilities were clean and modern and limited queues if you avoided peak times. Just to mention there are only two showers and two sinks in each ladies and men’s - limited facilities I felt for size of site and only one family shower (as far as I could see) Nice outdoor covered eating area with fairy lights. There were lots of fires and BBQs in the evening - and as the yurts/other accommodation very close together everything felt very smokey but saying that it’s nice to have a fire pit available. We didn’t use the wood burner in the yurt as there was a heater (very handy nice touch). Some yurts did use these though and again this created smoke outside even at breakfast. I know it’s camping - I just don’t like feeling like everything is smelling/filled with smoke. Yurt - cute and cosy. The futon mattresses are very thin - you can feel the slats when lying down. I would suggest a camping mat underneath - if you have one to bring. It’s Ok for little kids but not for slightly older/heavier ones. It would be nice to have another table to put things / food on - maybe put the shoe storage underneath to make use of small space. A small mirror in the yurt would be handy 😀 Don’t forget an eye mask if you don’t want to be woken up early. Standard camping eye wear. Would be nice if wifi was free - it’s £4 for 24hrs per device. That would be a nice touch - I needed to work whilst there! Really handy for Filey and Scarborough. Lovely pub The Foxhounds short drive away - massive portions and well priced. Overall we had a lovely time.

The reason I’m not recommending this site is not down to his accommodation or facilities - these were great! Unfortunately it’s down to the way they treated a set of animals at the time I stayed. Guinea pigs - kept in an open enclosure exposed to elements, thrown ice burg lettuce occasionally, no hay or fresh water. Holes in the concrete shelter allowing them to escape too. These poor little rodents had a wooden pallet to hide under on top of soil / rubble! This really disturbed me so I felt that I had to help them during my stay and went into to clean them out somewhat. There were maggots and worms under the soiled straw, water filthy in rusty bowl. Farmer chucked ice burg lettuce in occasionally to feed. Kids allowed in to chase them. How can a top holiday farm treat its animals like this and other holiday makers think it’s acceptable? Surely there are other guests like myself who noticed such neglect? Because of this - I cut my holiday short. I just couldn’t cope with the ignorance of the farmer (I discussed it with him and all he said was - THEYRE REGHT - GREEDY THINGS!) Such a disappointment

Hello, In response to your review, which refers to your visit in July 2022 not September 2022. Your comments contain very old information and is highly inaccurate in its comments. If you had visited more recently, then you would see for yourself the new pens and hutches for our smaller animals, which are both indoors and outdoors, bringing lots of pleasure of our younger visitors. As you will see, most of our feedback on public platforms is very positive, indicating we offer a lovely experience for our guests. Thank you.

We've just returned from a 3 night stay as campers with our own tent. We travelled with a toddler, baby and our dog. First impressions - amazing. So aesthetically pleasing for a campsite on a farm but then we noticed issues as the days went on. Firstly, PROS: -lovely location. Close to Filey beach (15 mins) and other Yorkshire attractions. -quiet and relaxing -modern shower block with brilliant showers. Now for the not so good stuff for us: -Our pitch along with neighbouring pitches were constantly bothered by swarms of wasps and infested with a lot of earwigs. I know this is nature but we have never been to a campsite with so many insects before. -Our first morning, my son was playing outside the tent with our dog and I was feeding the baby inside the tent. 'Farmer Percy' (?) came down on his quad to feed the sheep in the field. He shouted them and they didn't come so he went off and returned a few minutes later shouting and causing such a commotion. I looked outside the tent and he was throwing buckets at the flock and yelling 'bastards' in front of my impressionable 2 year old on a family friendly site....this definitely then ruined first impressions! -The only staff member we found friendly was the young receptionist in the shop. The farmer, owners, owners daughter did not go out of their way to have a chat with us (and my partner chats to everyone). Not one of them interacted with us once, only when we had a question and even that seemed a stretch when my partner asked to borrow a pan and brush. When he eventually managed to ask a cleaner they seemed very reluctant to give it and wanted assurance x10 that it would be returned as though they would be severely punished! We constantly were made to feel like we were asking for the world....we just wanted a brush as we forgot ours. -My partner also made them aware of a safety hazard outside the shower block as he nearly snapped his ankle the night before on some broken plastic guttering in a hole in the ground...their response was they know it's there so they avoid it. Not really what you'd expect from a business owner with potential suing risks if someone was to make a claim (where there's blame). -There was a sheep who frequented the gates at the end of the pitches who constantly itched its head on the railings. Upon closer inspection, it had holes in its head with maggots and flies living in there. -Shower/toilet block located quite far away from the pitches. It's shared with the yurts and wigwams and is located amongst these. We still had an amazing time as it is what you make it and we always manage to have a good time despite issues out of our control. But it felt like we was of an opinion not shared by many others of the site as we only read amazing reviews of the campsite before travelling. It is a lovely site but to us, it felt more money driven rather than giving an exceptional guest experience.

Thank you so much for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm campsite. We are glad you enjoyed the beautiful location, scenery and the excellent facilities we offer. We always appreciate positive comments as well as additional, constructive feedback. With regards to your additional comments, as you have posted your comments on a public platform, we are pleased to offer our replies which will offer a more balanced view of the situation. As readers of your review will see, we get many, many five-star reviews and we feel this speaks volumes about the experience we offer. With regards to Farmer Percy and his alleged swearing. Of course, we apologise if this took place. The event you describe was actually Farmer Percy separating the sheep, which can be a tricky job and one that needs addressing as soon as possible should it occur. However, we are very, very surprised to read that you found our staff to be unfriendly overall. As you don’t mention it in your feedback, we can only assume you didn’t visit The Hive (our fabulous onsite café), take part in Farmer Percy Club each day or use the Indoor Play Barn, which staff members help with throughout the season. Our staff are very friendly and will happily interact with customers at any time. When you mention the dustpan and brush incident: some of our cleaners don’t have access to extra items and you could have always popped up to reception to ask for help, as we are open 7 days a week during peak times. You also mention the plastic guttering near the shower block. We make health and safety a top priority and you fail to mention that once this had been brought to our attention, we rectified it within minutes. You mention a single sheep near your pitch. It is worth mentioning that we are a farm assured business (Red Tractor) and we are very lucky in that our flock of sheep is very reputable. As a working farm, our sheep are dipped regularly to try and prevent any insects or similar appearing on the sheep. Our sheep are regularly checked both by the farmer and other professionals however we thank you for your feedback. If you had seen the information on our website, you would have known that we have two facilities blocks, one in the centre of the main site and one behind reception. The loos are no more than a 2 minute walk from the bottom of our site. Finally, and this is something we heartily disagree with, to say ‘it’s money driven’ is simply not the case. The following are totally free to use by all guests who have booked to stay with us: The Indoor Play Barn. The Reflection Garden. The play area and sports field. The walks and interactive signs. Farmer Percy Club each morning. Giant Games in the Barn (Mon and Sat nights, completely free of charge). Tilly the Shetland Pony walks. Farmyard gang experience (our small animals including rabbits; guinea pigs; budgies; turkeys). Duck pond and the resident ducks. Visiting the hen house. All electric and heating is included in our cabins and electric pitches. There is unlimited use of our facilities included in our tariffs too. Other additional options (emphasis on options) are fire pits, The Hive food, some children’s events and the Alpaca Experiences, which are all chargeable but these are entirely the choice of each guests as to whether they book these or not. We are glad that overall, you had a great time, though, and thank you again for letting us know your thoughts.
