This hotel is fab. Yes the rooms are a little dated so what you don’t spend all day in the room. The bed was comfy room clean and tidy and so was the bathroom. We had an evening meal on our arrival and it was lovely couldn’t fault it. The staff are so friendly we will definitely be returning. Thank you for our lovely bank holiday stay

Initially arrived at the hotel, to a friendly receptionist. Unable to park in the hotel car park as it was full. Our room was on the first floor above the entertainment, which was a live singer that didn’t end until 10.30pm. Which meant you couldn’t infact sleep until after this, even if your a early riser! The room was clean but had a strong sour smell when entering. It was also unbearable hot with radiators on full. These were unable to be switched off even when turned completely down. We had to open the window onto a busy street as this was the only way to cool down and let the smell out. This meant we had the noise from the street, which was generally Friday night drunks which then kept setting our dog off barking. The room above was also incredible noisy with banging until early hours. The bed too has left myself and my partner in pain due to how uncomfortable it was. We was too exhausted at this point to report the room issues to reception so gave up and checked out at 4.30am! There was only a young porter on reception so no one to talk to. Very disappointed and not worth the visit.

We initially booked 2 standard double rooms , one for my wife and myself and the other room for our daughter and her dog, we requested the rooms to be next door to each other. On arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with the appearance and comfort of the reception, dining room, bar area, entertainment room and tv lounge. We were greeted in stereo by both David and Tracey who are exceptional members of staff at the hotel in fact during our stay we found all members of staff to be happy. cheerful, helpful and welcoming. Our rooms as requested were next door to each other 220 & 221, both rooms were of a reasonable size and clean although the odd stain on carpet of 221. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. At breakfast a table was set for us in the bar area where we could sit and have breakfast with our dog which we appreciated, the hotel is very dog friendly with doggy allowed to go anywhere apart from the restaurant/dining room which is understandable. The breakfast was self service and adequate with cooked breakfast, pastries, fresh fruit and yoghurt and a good coffee machine. We enjoyed our stay so much that we went to reception and then booked to stay the next night too. We packed the car up and set off on our journey home spending the day at Bridlington then decided not to go home and rang New Southland Hotel to see if our rooms were available for another night, fortunately they were and we were welcomed back again with open arms. Fortunately a coach party had arrived the day before and there was now the bonus of live evening entertainment. Thanks to all staff at New Southlands Hotel for making our stay memorable, wouldn't hesitate to stay again when next visiting Scarborough and area. Regards David, Christine, Georgia Greenwood and Lola the dog.

Just returned from a weekend break at this hotel. OK its not the Ritz or Faulty Towers bit was adequate for our needs. Rather small bedroom but again OK. Bathroom, had mould around bath and shower curtain needed replacing. Very little places to put toiletries had to balance them on bath, found this poor. Two evening meals were very good couldn't fault them piping hot. Breakfasts very basic and little choice of cooked ones. No fried eggs only scrambled ones. Attention by serving staff was excellent and very attentive. Now commenting about the staff, with such a large hotel I found it ridiculous that there was only one bar staff on duty who also acted as wine waiter in restaurant. This staff member PHILLIP was run ragged every night and I think hotel management should rectify this absence of bar staff. Not a bad hotel a few little problems that management need to look at.

Beautiful clean hotel with very friendly staff. Breakfast is gorgeous with piping hot coffee and beds and pillows are very comfy. Can't fault a thing, very good value. Serve evening meals at a very good price if needed. Close to spa lift so ideal if visiting for a show or concert.

We stayed here for two nights on a David Ogden Mystery weekend. One of the mysteries with this hotel is why did management hand out envelopes containing our room keys & registration forms as we got off the coach & then, complete with our cases have to queue for 15 mins to select a meal time at reception? Luckily our room was only on the first floor (23 steps), which was very convenient if you wanted to hear the live entertainment while in bed at 10pm (room 107) so we did not have another queue for the one small lift. Our room was very newly painted & comfortable with a small one step walk in shower with a grab handle but no anti-slip mat. I did ask at reception for a mat but I was told the surface of the shower was anti-slip which I disagreed with & it was suggested that to get a mat then I would have to fill in a disclaimer form, but we used our own mat which we always take with us. Breakfasts were not very exiting with only scrambled eggs offered with the sausages, bacon, baked beans, tinned toms & hash browns on but no mushrooms or porridge, but there was a good selection of cereals & pastries. The evening meal that had a bread crumbed coating was a bit over done & could have been better if a bit of gravy on the roast potatoes. Mind you the meals that came with a small salad was very nice with a good mixture & not a lot of lettuce.

I booked this through booking.com because it had good reviews, but was let down. The Reception area, Bar and Restaurant was very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the car park was not big enough for the size of the hotel and there is only one small elevator that didn't always work. Our room was clean and tidy, but we could feel and hear the springs in the mattress evertime we moved. The room was also to hot, but we couldn't open the window because the seagulls. We had a terrible night sleep. When I got home the next day we wasn't even asked by the receptionist if we had a nice stay. When I got home I slept 4 hours. The kettle in the room was old, took 10 mins to boil. Breakfast was okay, but there was only scrambled egg available. The waiter did not say fried or poached was available if ask. The scrambled egg had no taste. Not sure they was proper eggs. I ended up leaving them. Sausages were nice, but the bacon was chewy, hash browns had gone soggy in the warmer and the beans were to sweet. Its a shame. The hotel looked very nice.

My friend and I have just returned from this hotel on a Christmas break we went with Caledonian Travel. Well what can I say from start to finish it was fantastic. We had a wonderful time and EVERYTHING was perfect. We were very well looked after and nothing was a bother. May I take this opportunity in thanking Ruth, Martyn, David and all the staff at the New Southlands Hotel for giving up their Christmas Day to make ours so very extra special. A HUGE THANK YOU.
