Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our third visit! It’s a great little gem. The spa is very relaxed, staff friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious although the evening meal is a little overpriced. We will be returning and have recommended it to friends and family.

The room was tired looking, the carpet needed a clean, very dated decor. Bathroom needed a revamp. For the price we paid, it certainly wasn’t worth it. The breakfast was the only good thing about the 2 nights we stayed.

Travelling for business and needed an electric charger halfway through the journey. Called the hotel to check they had chargers and they worked and if they have any issues. Was told they have 2 and up until now have never had any issues. We then booked the hotel. Arrived at the hotel one charger was being used so downloaded the app and plugged the car in. The charger did not work. After an hour talking to support they couldn’t fix it either so had to leave the hotel and try find one. Unfortunately there were power cuts in the area so had to give up and come back to the room. We had been shoved into a small room with a sloping roof which was not fit for purpose as you couldn’t get into the bed properly. This should have been a superior room. Complained at reception and was given a better room, abit dated and had cobwebs in the shower. The air conditioning didn’t work and bed uncomfortable so we didn’t get much sleep. We wanted to leave as soon as we could so got up early to have breakfast which was ok. Talking to reception they apologised but do say they are not responsible for the chargers. On leaving the hotel the BMW that was charging the day before was still there fully charged since 8pm the night before and there were 2 very disgruntled electric car drivers standing next to it. Each had no electric to get home. These people had asked reception if they could contact the car and get it to move but they said they couldn’t. Disaster of a night will not return.

I booked here with two friends for a mums spa get away and it was the perfect place to relax. Staff- all staff were happy, friendly and smiley. Reception were so helpful, the bar man went above and beyond to make me a drink I really wanted but wasn’t on the menu, the restaurant manager on the second night not only solved an issue we had with our steaks but again went above and beyond to apologise. We felt very taken care of and heard and by far the staff really made the entire experience amazing. A big thank you The rooms - now the rooms are maybe a little old but sooo clean and sooo comfortable and you can clearly see that the money has been spent making all the guest areas look positively exquisite. Bar and dining room were clean and modern. The bar fire first night had live music and had a very 1920’s / country lodge kinda vibe. Food in the restaurant was really really good and the breakfast was always full and hot even when you arrived close to closing which was a bonus for the morning we slept in. The spa was clean and had plenty of room for everyone even when busy. Gym was empty, clean and had better equipment that most gyms I’ve been too. The spa staff made room for us all to have a treatment - they were pretty much full and we had left it to the last minute but they made it work. The hotel is close to some great parks for a walk and a Waitrose which was helpful for last minute bits and a quick mum shop for the way home ◡̈

We visited this weekend and really enjoyed our stay. Every member of staff in the reception, restuarant, spa, health club were all very welcoming and very kind. Due to a medical issue I couldn’t have the treatments I originally booked but they were able to change these on the day and were really accomodating to move things around for us which we were very grateful for. The health club is nice & clean, big changing rooms & lovely pool area. The jacuzzi is a bit noisy but that’s the only negative we could comment on. We had dinner & afternoon tea during our stay and all were lovely and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was included and had a lot of choice. Our room was very spacious with a big bathroom (bath & seperate shower). We both slept really well. The only issue was wheb we opened the blind in the morning, there was an ashtray outside that hadn’t been emptied so think this must have been missed when the guests before us left. We really enjoyed our stay and would come back again if we lived nearer.

Really liked the place but it let itself down in the details. My daughter had milk split over her at breakfast by a staff member, waiter apologised and then disappeared. No one came to clear up the milk nor sort out my daughter's milk covered clothes. I went to explain at the front desk and asked for help as we were travelling for a few days "there's a DIY laundry in town...." Really! We had 5 treatments and they billed us for 10, luckily my son had smelt a rat and picked them up on it when we checked out, nearly £300 over charge removed... None of this leave a good taste which is a shame as the facilities are good, clean and the pool staff are very helpful. Would be nervous to go back as I just want to relax and trust the people who are looking after us.

We hosted our corporate charity golf day here in September 2023 and had an absolutely brilliant time. Thank you to Peter Smith and the team for a first class experience for us and our guests. The staff were amazing with helping us organise the day and on the day itself.

Long weekend golf society party of 11 was enjoyed by all. The weekend was a great experience with comfortable rooms, food was excellent from a varied choice set menu for dinner, while breakfasts were also excellent - service first class. Staff very friendly and helpful. Golf course was in excellent condition but it's a shame lazy golfers cant repair divots - do they look after their own course like that - probably. Golf shop and pros excellent. My only complaint is the addition of a service charge for pouring or serving drinks at the bar. I think a service charge should be optional and not just added. Our party and other guests commented on this unwarranted practice. Will probably return despite the last comment.

Went for a two night golf break in a party of 12. Basic twin room was very comfortable. Good choice on set menu for dinners and breakfasts were excellent. Staff very friendly and switched on ( cleaning public areas when not serving). Golf course attractive and in good condition. Hope to visit again.

Having spent the day in the Spa at the sister hotel - The Vineyard, I stayed for one night at The Donnington. Myself and family have stayed many times at The Donnington over the decades, but this was by far the worse. The hotel is in need of a complete renovation and modernisation. My room - 117 - should be condemned so no one can stay there. The bathroom was disgusting. Tiles staines, mould stains on the ceiling, the bath panel was rotten, stained and hanging off. NOT a 4* experience. You could NOT sleep in the double bed as the mattress is so broken and has large holes and dips in it. I slept on pillows. The room is dated. This is not a 4* Hotel room. I told the receptionist that the room should not be used again and she said “i will make a note of that”. Hopefully she has! I will not be returning.
