Booked for 5 golfers to stay 2 nights with 3 rounds of golf - executive rooms. Was a little concerned on reading some of the negative reviews before the weekend, but needn't of worried.....just typical Tripadvisor moaning minnies who would never be pleased anywhere. SERVICE:All staff were lovely and service across whole weekend was excellent, hotel, bar, restaurant and pro-shop included. ROOMS: Where spacious, very well equipped, very clean. Bathrooms were lovely. FOOD: Breakfast and dinner both very good - plenty of choice, well prepared, tasty. SPA: Nice to unwind after a round of golf - spa is well appointed, clean and is a welcome addition to the weekend. GOLF: It's a challenging course but interesting, very well maintained and a great round. Played it three times and really enjoyed it. BEST BIT: How quiet the rooms are at night - I am always nervous about hotel stays as echoing corridors and inconsiderate guests very often make for a noisy, interrupted night - but Donnington seems to have mastered a silent night! Both nights were very peaceful and the whole party had great nights' sleep Thank you Donnington - loved our stay and would highly recommend.…
I booked a table at the Hangout - the hotel’s fabulous outside dining space where I’ve been with friends several times before. I made the booking online. All good. I called the day before to check it was ok if I bought along my very well behaved dog, and was told that was fine, as long as I didn’t walk through the front of the hotel as dogs are not allowed inside. Ok, that was fine too. Arrived just before our booking time to be told that the Hangout was closed for a wedding. What?!! Does the right hand really not know what the left hand is doing in this hotel? A very nice man explained that the Hangout was now closed for bookings until the end of May but we could still sit outside ….. either in a sunken courtyard almost as part of someone else’s baby shower, or at a table covered in bird mess outside the bar. No thanks! We ended up at another table which was just ok but not what we were looking forward to, but hey, the sun was shining. I have no issue with customer service as the staff all appear to be friendly and helpful. But what I massively object to is how a hotel of this standard can get it so very wrong when it comes to internal communication. Nobody seems to know what is going on. Oh, and I asked about the dog thing too and was told that dogs are welcome and that I could walk through the hotel. Crazy. Please learn to communicate - not just with your paying customers but internally too. It would save a lot of hassle and is a really poor reflection when people like me pull you up on sites like this.…
Went for a 2 day break with 11 mates for a golf break. The deal was dinner bed and breakfast plust 2 rounds for £129.00. The hotel and course are in separate parts of the estate which was not initially clear. Golf course is certainly a course of 2 nines! Front nine quite scoreable, back nine really tricky. Some of the greens on the front nine are punishing though. Condition was good. Only problem was speed of play. 5.5 hours on Sunday and 5 hours on monday. Hotel was nice and smart, rooms were clean and comfy. Dinner was excellent with the whole group impressed. Bar and lounge were fine even if dinks were a little expensive. Breakfast was all you needed as well. All in all a great venue where the staff couldn't do enough. I had a problem with towels which was sorted straight away. If you get the chance ,give it a go you won't be disappointed.…
Loved every minute, played an amazing golf course and stayed at an great hotel with the best staff you will eve meet. Best regards to every body at donnington walleye from the Icelandic group, we will come again for shure
Hotel - This is the second trip to the hotel and golf course for our group. The package including golf, bed, breakfast and evening meal was extremely good value. Service was second to none throughout the hotel and in particular Sarah at breakfast engaged with us in banter and ensured we all got what we needed. The evening meals were very nice and no complaints. Didn’t use the Spa this time so unable to comment. The only downside for me was the ridiculously overpriced wine in the evening. Golf - Nice course, people in the pro shop very helpful. The person behind the bar on 12 and 13 April was very friendly and helpful, unlike the guy on the 12th who was dour and unfriendly. Once again overcharging in the bar was ridiculous - £18 for 4 bottles of Corona beer is taking the Mick.
