Food was alright I myself had a burger, wasn't the best on par with a quarter pounder with cheese meal at McDonald's, my friend had fish and chips... let's just say they vomited the next day, disappointed. Pudding was a little too sweet though, more than to taste. The service was literally amazing only reason for the 4*! The blokes... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hare and Hounds. Very comfortable room and delicious food. Your staff are unfailingly excellent; patient, kind, tolerant and good humoured! We were part of a party of 9, a family gathering, and all wanted different dinner and breakfast requirements, all met with courtesy and patience! Thank you, happy to give you 5 stars.

We decided on booking Hare & Hounds for my brothers birthday meal. He lives in Newbury & had eaten here twice previously with no issues therefore recommended the restaurant. The rest of us had travelled from Cumbria so we were particularly looking forward to a nice family catch up over a good meal. On arrival we were told that they... More

Dear Tamar I can only apologise for the shortcomings you highlight. It was the busiest weekend of the year and we made a mistake in our judgement of the volume of trade. In some ways this shows that we are popular, but you are right, we should and normally do, achieve a better level of service. Suffice to say that... More

This was the fourth time we have stayed here and will more than likely be the last. I consider this to be way over priced. A lot of money has been spent on the new barn restaurant area and the rooms are being neglected. Our room as at the top of the main building and bed was very very firm.... More

Dear Stumpie We pride ourselves on having built our business from a great deal of repeat business and as such it is even more upsetting to read your review. We have spent money in all the main inn rooms on new oak furniture, carpets and beds, so please do not think we have deliberately neglected our dear old Inn! I... More

After staying here previously and not having the best experience we thought we would give it a second chance. The family room had sloping ceilings,a window that a child could open and the possibility of them falling out of it,plus it did not shut properly, the shower was dirty, the toilet still had faeces on it. Other guests coming in late making... More

Dear Load of Rubbish I apologise that your experience was not good. We do try to show images of all rooms, including the main Inn ones with sloping ceilings. The windows are actually 4 foot from the floor but I will have my maintenance manager look at the locks immediately. We pride ourselves on truly caring about our Inn and... More

I was in a hurry when I booked this hotel and didn't follow my usual rule of not reading reviews by British people of British hotels (sorry). I have very different standards, apparently. This hotel is right by an extremely busy road, and the windows of the room we were assigned were literally about ten feet from it diagonally. Of... More

Dear Bracing I am sorry that you felt we did not live up to your expectations, nor that our British customers reviews are to your exacting standards! All that we are is displayed deliberately clearly on our website and on Trip Advisor. We price according to the local market. And our garish lights sit in an oak framed restaurant, The... More

Really enjoyed my stay. Food in the bar/restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. Bedroom had space and was well-lit (an increasingly rare occurrence these days). Breakfast was nicely cooked and tasted great. Will stay here again.

Dear Montalbano Many thanks for your review. We do believe in a freshly cooked breakfast and I have a great dislike for the buffet style and cheap bacon and sausage offerings. We are British and we have a truly great tradition first thing in the morning. It may not be healthy, sic, but we here have been doing it for... More

We were here for a wedding on Friday 11th November. From start to finish it was faultless. The staff waiting to greet the wedding party were both friendly and helpful. First impressions of the venue were beautiful, lovely Barn where the wedding meal was served and lots of little cubby holes for guests wanting to get away from it all!... More

Dear Baytree What a pleasure to read such a lovely review! The Barn was built to the standard we achieved with weddings strongly in our thought process and it is our pleasure to be part of such special days. We do however only do 20 weddings per year, in order to balance against our busy restaurant trade. We are incredibly... More

Probably not a good time to stay when most of the hotel was taken over by a wedding party. The room itself was OK, although the shower in the bathroom was very dated, but the stay was overshadowed by a very noisy foul mouthed argument in the room next door at 1.30 in the morning ! Paper thin walls !

Stayed here a few times now. Clean modern rooms with tea/coffee facilities, lovely restaurant and bar serving good food and real ales. Staff and owners are friendly and take pride in their work. Will be back.
