The Northfield Hotel is located on the lower slopes of Northhill in nearly 2 acres of landscaped gardens reputed to have been laid out by Gertrude Jekyll. We have wonderful views from our elevated position from the coast to the Quantocks, Brendon hills, and indeed Exmoor itself, walking from the hotel you are on Exmoor in only a few minutes.

On the first ever coach holiday by Edwards Coaches to this hotel with our very professional driver, Wyn......what a nice man. Received a lovely warm welcome from Megan and the staff on arrival along with tea/coffee and biscuits and the warm atmosphere continued throughout our stay. The hotel is not modern it has the 'shabby chic', relaxed charm of a country house and you feel you are staying in a family home, I cannot pay it a higher compliment. Our room (No 25) was nice and big and had a fantasic view over to the beach. There was no maid service in the rooms (understandable with COVID rules I expect) but this didn't bother us. Very clean, lcouldn't hear noise from other rooms, large comfy bed, tea/cofee/hot chocolate (resupplies from reception) decent hairdryer, plenty of hangers, good black out curtains, freshly painted with a newly refurbished bathroom we had no complaints. Breakfast and evening meals were of a very good standard (sausages at breakfast were like local butchers sausages) and if you wanted a deviation from the standard menu it was no trouble. Similarly the evening meal was varied with a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts. I particularly enjoyed the broccoli and stilton soup, salmon with asparagus and pesto sauce (not your average mass produced fare) and the cheesecake was delicious. Drinks were a bit expensive but for the convenience of staying in the hotel in the evenings and enjoying the company of our fellow travellers we didn't mind as after all this was our first holiday in 2 years! The hotel put on a cream tea one afternoon but sadly someone forgot to tell the chef that serving platters of hot scones with jam and cream already on them was a mistake...we all still ate them though. Didn't use the pool or sauna but it looked OK and pool towels were available from reception if required. The gardens are lovely and thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the small covered terrace with a pre dinner G & T. watching the squirrels. There was a singer on one evening (the only entertainment during our stay), his style was not our cup of tea so we sat on the terrace to listen, he got those in the room singing but no surprise there as the majority of our coach were Welsh! Finally we cannot praise the staff highly enough they were all so friendly, chatty and willing to go the extra mile, even came out to wave us goodbye.. Would we come back to the Northfield if we are ever Minehead way?........Definitely.

We took a last minute weekend break after spotting a dry window in the weather! We spent two nights on a B and B basis which offered excellent value. The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. The room was spacious, warm and well lit. The en suite shower room was spotless and had soft fluffy white towels and again good lighting.
The Northfield Hotel is a Victorian building which offers all you could want with views of the sea from the dining room, several large and comfy lounges, a lovely garden and a warm swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi.
The hotel is situated 2 minutes walk from the coastal path offering 630mile walk to Poole should you so wish. We walked along the coast to Dunster Beach to visit old family haunts and took a more strenuous walk up and around North Hill.
The town of Minehead seems a little jaded but as it was winter it is perhaps not the fairest comment.
I would recommend the Northfield if you want to feel comfortable and welcome and enjoy the outdoors walking by the coast.

Just returned from a lovely 3 day break at the Northfield Hotel. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had a dog friendly room which was extremely clean and comfortable. Plenty of coffee and tea etc provided in the room. Ideal for people with dogs as the beach was less than a five minute walk away.
The pool and fitness centre was lovely and never more than 4 people in at one time.
But the best thing about this hotel was the evening meals. Not huge portions but some of the best dishes I’ve ever had and we eat out a lot. The chef deserves a pay rise!!
I only have two minor criticisms. The radiator had been removed from the room so we had no where to dry our hats and gloves as the weather was awful -the room however was very warm. A heated towel rail in the bathroom would rectify this.
We overslept on the first night and nearly missed breakfast. We ordered an early morning call for 7 30 the next day but never received the call. Luckily we awoke at 8 30 so managed breakfast. Was glad we didn’t have strain to catch.
Overall would highly recommend.

We, like many others, wanted a few days break after such a long seeming lockdown. We were welcomed on arrival at the Northfield Hotel by Alison on Reception and we were very pleased with the room we were allocated.
The hotel has plenty of common areas with comfortable seating and views across the extensive and beautiful gardens.
The lovely staff were all friendly, helpful and very welcoming.

We also enjoyed using the indoor swimming pool, which at the moment is restricted in its use due to Covid rules, but as long as you booked an hour’s slot, it was there for your use. Only 3 persons at a time were allowed, at any one time.

Our stay was for 3 nights, 4 days on a B&B basis, though we did add dinner on our first evening’s stay.
Whilst staying in Minehead, we actually spent quite a bit of time driving around the stunningly beautiful North Somerset/north Devon countryside and pretty villages, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We would happily stay at the Northfield Hotel again and would recommend it to other couples or friendly groups wanting a bit of spoiling in a lovely part of England.

I spent a week at the Northfield Hotel recently and had a lovely time. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very roomy. The only downside was that my room was above the swimming pool, so was very warm (I had requested a ground floor room as have mobility issues), but luckily there were two fans provided, so that solved that problem. The amazing staff are what make your stay at this hotel extra special - they really could not do enough for you. Want to say a big thank you to the lovely ladies on reception, in the bar, and in the dining room, and also to the young man who worked in the dining room - you made me feel so welcome.

The breakfasts were lovely and very filling and kept me going all day, so need to worry about lunch. I was also booked in for the evening meal each evening as being a solo traveller, I choose hotels with an evening meal on offer. My only slight criticism of the evening meal, is the vegetables could have been a bit more varied each evening, although what vegetables were served, were cooked very well, and were fresh not frozen. I was not sure whether to even go away this year due to the covid-19 situation, but had booked this hotel back in December 2019. So glad I did go, as I had a lovely holiday. Would recommend you give it a go!

Our stay at the Northfield was a pleasant experience The staff were friendly and very helpful. The beds were comfortable, however the bedside lamps did not emit enough light to allow reading in bed. The food was good but sadly the vegetables were rather bland. On our last morning we were served marmelade in a smeared dish which contained smudges of butter, it was obviously left from the previous mornings breakfast which should have been disposed of. Attention to detail eg checking that the salt and pepper dispensers were full and not leaving dead flowers in the vases for several days would undoubtedly be welcomed by your guests. Finally on a last note we were very sorry that we were unable to get the chance to use the swimming pool as it was always fully booked throughout our stay.

We arrived 7pm Friday evening, and were in desperate need of a relaxing stay.

We had a lovely welcome and the room (24) was fantastic. The rooms can be serviced if needed but we chose not to - coffee/tea/ toilet rolls/ shampoo all available if we needed.

We ate in both nights and the food and wine was excellent both nights. Breakfast was very good both days too. You are allocated a table for entire stay - covid friendly!

The (now) normal covid precautions are as you would expect, we chose to wear masks as we moved around the hotel as did most guests.

The gardens are well worth a stroll around and add to the relaxing atmosphere both during day and early evening.

The swimming pool, and hot tub were great, there is a steam room and gym which also looked good although we didn’t use them.

It was a lovely surprise to have a singer on Saturday night. So good to hear music again after lockdown etc. He made us get up and jive! Fantastic 😊

This has a great homely feel about the hotel. The staff were all lovely and very helpful and unusually these days most have been there for a while which really helps

So thank you all, we left on Sunday morning having had the best weekend for literally years. See you again!

We booked for the above package and had a lovely weekend. From the moment we arrived and until we left we found everyone at the Hotel so friendly, helpful and kind. The room was beautiful and had everything we could wish for. Soft fluffy white towels in the bathroom and a shower with good water pressure and which was always consistent in flow and temperature. Biscuits were supplied with the tea and coffee making facility. We decided not to have the room made up for the 3 days we were there but were given plenty of top ups of supplies by asking at reception. We used the lovely on site swimming pool and felt everywhere was very clean and safe. The food was very good and because we were on the Turkey & Tinsel package had lots of lovely of extras thrown in. A delicious tea when we arrived - warm mince pies and clotted cream, a beautiful light sponge cake and coffee and on another afternoon shortcake and coffee and so it went on. The restaurant meals, both breakfast and dinner were excellent and with a very good choice of food. The meals came out piping hot. Evening entertainment was provided on the Saturday night and we much enjoyed. The hotel is in a very convenient location with beautiful gardens. All in all a very good break away and we would very much like to visit the Hotel again. Many thanks to all at the Northfield.

We have been to the Northfield many times over the past 10 years but I have to say that sadly this was our worse stay. Although we booked quite some time ago, we had the worst room we had every stayed in. Overlooking the rubbish bins, on top of the kitchen and to say it was noisy would be an understatement. From 6,.30am until 10.30pm we had noise, including bottles being emptied out at 10pm which made us wonder what the heck was happening, banging and crashing about upstairs before 8am. The toilet seat was a movable one and although we requested this b e looked at, it stayed the same until we left this morning. The bin in the bathroom was broken and the lid came off every time it was used. You could not get the blind up to close the window properly. There was a chair provided for use with t he dressing table but you could not get on this because it was right up against the bed. Breakfasts were a hit and miss situation, we had to send back three occasions because we were given the wrong order. The bacon was inedible having barely touched the grill. It is a great shame that whoever has taken over this hotel has stripped it of all the character and lovely furniture, painting with colours that do no favours to it. On two nights running we went into the bar before dinner and requested two drinks, both nights we waited 15 minutes for these and when they came not only was my glass warm with no ice or lemon as requested but took so long, it was time to go in for our meal. There needs a lot more attention to the training of staff and least of all to subscribe to that old adage that "the customer is always right".
