From the outside the Alcombe House Hotel is impressive to say the least and certainly not be disappointed as you step through the front door with the grand staircase. Our room was impeccably clean and comfortable with a good sized bathroom. Because of COVID-19 no breakfast was available although they had enough room between the dining room and lounge felt to make it work “ Pity because I had stayed before on business and the standard of breakfast was excellent. If I had one criticism it would be the welcome from the owner , well there wasn’t one and frankly trying to get a conversation was like pulling teeth , almost as though he couldn’t wait to get us out of the way unfortunately. Around the corner was a delightful pub The Britannia well worth a visit.

Mikemike3100, as you so rightly mention there’s global pandemic and just because you’ve arrived at the hotel it doesn’t disappear we’re all at risk so I find your comment about conversation somewhat mindless and pessimistic but didn’t it occur to you maybe your conversation wasn’t going anywhere or maybe put your mind in gear and think pandemic keep your distance move on make way for the next person! With regards breakfast your right it wasn’t available as we’re working on a room only basis at the moment but you knew that before you arrived just like the pandemic so your comment is not justified! As a matter of health and safety for myself and hotel guests I made the decision to not do breakfast and operate on a room only basis that cuts out a lot of face to face contact but I find what you’re saying to be rather egocentric. 🙄😷

Gem of a hotel in the picturesque surroundings of Minehead. A great place for a stopover en route to Cornwall. Top host to boot at a really reasonable price and the rooms are spotless and spacious aswell. There’s a bit of history to the place too. I couldn’t recommend the Alcombe enough. Hope to be back again one day!

My husband and I stayed one night as we were travelling around and wanted to see Dunster and it’s castle, we chose Alcombe House as it was close to Dunster. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless and well heated so we were pleased. The only thing I would say is that as the hotel is on the main road there was some traffic noise but as I always take earplugs it wasn’t a problem for me.

Spent one night here for a family party. Arrived about 3ish to a very grumpy welcome. My mum can’t see that well and as we had 3 rooms we needed to fill a slip in each which I was going to do for my mum Snapped that we needed to complete one per room when mum started to get flustered. Was also barked at that we need to pay upfront which was not an issue but did expect a warm welcome. This unwarm welcome followed us into the bedrooms. Heating had been left off and storage heaters took ages to warm up. Sons room at top right of hotel wouldn’t switch on but didn’t want me to complain as the welcome we had. The rooms are very clean and the house is beautiful so no qualms there at all just a bit bah humbug on arrival. Had a great night with family but left hotel at 9 and won’t be returning there. Some lovely hotels and b and bs in Minehead to choose from. Not this one …

Dear Budget Traveller Steppy Thanks for your review on the £39 budget traveller room with free parking and WIFI. On you arrival I asked each guest from all 3 rooms to fill out a registration form it's a requirement not for fun but you all stood there staring at me like 3 wise monkeys I asked a 2nd time and you started filling in a form I then had to say for a 3rd time it was at that point you said I will fill in for my mother who has a sight problem if only you said this the first time i wouldn't be replying to this but saying that you booked her a room on the 3rd floor via the stairs not good for someone with sight problems. With regards the heating all heating was on in the rooms but maybe not to your temperature and if your son turned the heater off I am far to blame. With regards payment you booked with a booking agent that tells you payment on arrival I asked for payment but got met with a ice cold frosty stern look as if to say why do I need to pay. Unfortunately hotels can’t choose guests but I’m sure with your little budget you will find a place somewhere else. But saying the on departure your husband said lovely stay thank you.

Stayed hear for 5 nights on business. Arrived to a warm welcome . Room was spotlessly clean . Comfortable bed . Plenty of hot water in the ample size bathroom . Nothing to much trouble . I highly recommend this Accomidation
