Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited here today (25/11/23) with a friend for lunch, and thought the restaurant/pub was welcoming and cosy. The staff were friendly and immediately let us know that the kitchen is an apprentice kitchen, and so food may take a little while, up to 30 minutes - this was reiterated to us 3 different times, and each time the staff member checked we were happy with this. The drinks we ordered arrived quickly, and the food wasn’t far behind. Overall the food was tasty and big portions, which is always welcome - and fairly priced in my opinion! I would definitely recommend the venue for a lunch, the menu has plenty of options. I can’t comment on the hotel itself, as I didn’t stay overnight here. What I would like to comment on is an incident with another customer that has shocked me, and I must stress not because of the way the staff responded - how they dealt with it was perfectly. But on the off chance that the vile excuse of a man or any of his party are reading this with the intention of making their own review, read on. The man in question was sat at a table with 6 other of his party, they all received their food and had clearly gone through a few drinks as empty glasses littered the table. They accepted their food happily enough, no grumbles could be heard. However about 10 mins into their meal, when most of this party had scarfed down their food I might add, big man decided he had an issue with how long they’d waited for their food, and preceded to shout and bellow at the kitchen staff and waiting staff about his annoyance at this. Apparently they’d booked a table for 12.30 and had been seated promptly, but had waited quite some time for their food. Presumably they had been given the same warning about food taking a while as my table had, but evidently decided they weren’t happy with this. What ensued during this out rust is nothing short of embarrassing for this individual. He continued to shout and scream at the staff, refusing to accept apology or restrain himself. He leapt out of his seat, swearing and shouting and refusing to pay for his meal. His family/the rest of his party followed suit, and grabbed their jackets at all walked out. How shameful. If you are reading this, you should be utterly ashamed and embarrassed about how you conducted yourself today. I have no doubt you are a bully and a narcissist at home and I pity your family and friends that have to deal with you, if that’s how you treat complete strangers. What a pathetic way to act. Being unhappy about slow service and having a bit of a grumble is one thing, but to launch into a completely unprovoked tirade of verbal abuse and shouting is frankly unhinged. Well done to the staff who dealt with it and moved on with their day, it’s unacceptable that you should have to put up with such abuse in your place of work.

A great location and the team can't have been more helpful. We stayed for 3 nights. Great breakfast cooked to perfection. We stayed in a double luxury the view was fab as we were looking onto the beach. The bathroom had recently been refurbished so was clean and fresh, room was a good size but a little shabby... Stains on carpet but the bedding was clean and comfortable. Would recommend.

Excellent little hotel with attentive, friendly staff and wonderful vegetarian breakfast (not your standard pretend full English). The rooms are clean and comfortable. Wonderful to know that you are having a wonderful break/holiday while helping a fabulous charity. Sea views are spectacular.

Before moving to Minehead in 2022, when visiting to view properties I found a warm cheerful and friendly welcome in the cafe, with tea, cake and service all good. I have not re visited the Beach Hotel very many times since living here but popped in late yesterday afternoon for tea. There was one table occupied by two ladies and one member of staff, a young woman at a station close to the door, but no person at the counter. I hitched my dog to a chair and looked up at the counter and around the room. The member of staff had clearly seen me, but made no attempt to make eye contact. I approached the counter and spoke, asking if there was anyone in attendance. She then said, ‘yes me, I’ll be with you soon ‘. It wasn’t very soon that she then left her position and came to the counter. I ordered a pot of tea, and a scone with butter and jam. She went into the back and came back saying that there was only Flora. I therefore declined the scone and ordered instead a slice of Lemon Drizzle cake which I could see had a top covering of icing. I was served an extremely generous slice of cake, but as I do not like icing attempted to eat the cake alone. I found a very dry texture and not a glimmer of a taste of lemon. I assume the lemon was in the icing. My understanding of Lemon Drizzle cake is that whilst still warm from the oven, lemon juice is drizzled, copiously or not, over the cake thus soaking into the body of the cake and turning it into a moist delight. Needless to say my visit on a wet autumn afternoon was not, on this occasion, a delight, but rather a disappointment. I hope this was a day when the Beach was not at its best rather than a decline in service and quality from what I had experienced in 2022. I shall visit again and hope for a return to my previous good experiences.

Dear Elaine, I hope i find you well I have read your review with some interest, and asked some questions on your behalf I think we may have let the ball slip for which we can only apologize. As for the lemon drizzle that is the way we make it to an award winning recipe and we are sorry it was not to your taste. we hope to see you and your hound soon Kindest Regards Angus

My husband,me and the dog had a 2 night stay here recently and I can only say ,it was a shame it was just the 2 nights. Friendly staff, great service, good food, comfy beds, large room with a great view of the beach and sea & being a dog friendly hotel, our dog was made very welcome. All shops, restaurants, bars, amusements etc within walking distance.Admiration for the ethos they're creating in training and helping the community and young people. If you did not know it was mainly staffed by apprentices, you wouldn't be able to tell, very professionally presented. Credit where credit is due. Would definitely stay here again .Well done The Beach.

My husband, dog and I had a fantastic two night stay. We parked in the car park and didn’t use the car for the duration of our stay. We walked to the nearby Morrisons for provisions and the town and beach are literally right on the doorstep. We walked to the village of Dunster with the dog. There are so many dog friendly places in the town. We had a large room with two single beds and a sofa. It was lovely to be provided with fresh milk for tea in the room. We pre-ordered breakfast the day before and enjoyed eggs benedict one day and a traditional breakfast the next. The meat and produce was of good quality. We arrived on a Sunday and had a delicious roast dinner in the restaurant. This was one of the nicest roasts we have ever had. It was great to see the apprentices hard at work. The hotel is doing a fantastic job with creating opportunities for training and employment for young people. We will definitely be back! Thank you Beach Hotel.

Rang hotel, Was reassured it would be less to book direct with hotel than with Booking .com. turned out to be £40 more for 3 nights than friends booking of 4 nights with Booking.com. No single room tarrif - same price for 1 person as 2. My room (as a single guest) was much smaller than my friends double room - it would have been too small for 2 people. Staff working bar and hotel reception - had to wait to check in No toilet paper in room on arrival Had to ask for milk (for room) at bar - none in room Limited breakfast choice - had to order day before - No porridge, No fruit, no yoghurt, had to request toast, no choice of how egg was cooked. Good views Good situation Comfortable bed Plenty of hot water

Good morning I was sorry to read that you felt there were elements of your stay that were disappointing. With regards to the pricing of the room, online travel agents such as b.com will constantly adjust their rates but at your time of booking it was cheaper to come direct and we will always be happy to price match. We will bring your other points to our next team meeting for discussion as our guest experience is paramount to us and I agree that some elements of this were not to our usual standard. kindest regards

Lovely hotel , staff are great , location perfect.. breakfast was tasty just don’t need hash browns! More mushrooms or extra egg instead! The bed in Lee Bay room was a zip n link so uncomfortable as you feel the join down the middle. Bed was actually very lumpy and uncomfortable as were the pillows . All clean though with lovely soft bath towels . No plug socket by the mirror on the wall so using hair dryer was tricky with no mirror . Overall not a bad hotel Check in at 3 pm was a little late
