The Old Golf House Hotel, Huddersfield is elegantly designed in ageless Yorkshire stone, set upon 3-acres of grounds. The building itself captures old world charm, whilst the interior has seen extensive refurbishment in the bedrooms, meeting rooms, public areas and easy access facilities. The Old Golf House is in close proximity of the M62/M1 motorway, so makes for an ideal destination for those travelling to work or visiting family nearby. The hotel is the perfect base for touring West Yorkshire, the Pennines and the Colne Valley, and is just 40 minutes away from both Manchester and Leeds. The hotel itself is just 3 miles from Huddersfield Town FC and Huddersfield Town. The hotel boasts a pretty courtyard and lush grounds.

My wife and I spent a night here as an impluse purchase from GroupOn and we couldn't have been happied with literally everything about our stay. The room was beautiful and spacious, the food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was lovely, and every member of staff we spoke to was really friendly and helpful,

Perfect location just off the M62 and no noise from passing traffic, with plenty of parking (with no potholes to be seen). Certainly somwhere I would be happy to stay again if we ever find ourselves in the area.

It sets itself out as a 3-star hotel, though I'm not sure that can currently be reached. Granted, there is currently ongoing improvement work, so hopefully, this will improve in the near future. However, there is no provision for evening meals or cooked breakfast options. The website stated ironing facilities in the room, which there were not. We managed without, but it's those small things that just need tidying up.
Water pressure for the shower wasn't great, but I imagine that's due to it being an old building. The stay itself was fine and doesn't warrant any real complaint, but it's important for people to be aware that if they're expecting the standards for a 3 star stay they likely won't get it. We paid £86 for one night with a continental breakfast, and I'm just not sure it's justifiable.
I had previously attended a wedding there around 8 or so years ago and it was pleasant then, but looking at damaged walls and things hanging off, odd painting touch ups in corridors, I'm not sure there's been a great deal of upkeep in the interim but hopefully the ongoing works will make that improvement.

All of the staff we met were lovely and welcoming. Due to attending a nearby wedding we didn't spend much time in the hotel. Complimentary toiletries provided were Dove hand/body wash and shampoo. As said, there were no facilities for hot food, but the hotel did provide a continental buffet breakfast. Nothing too fancy, but cereal, toast, yoghurt, etc. is fine. There is a good amount of parking for those driving.

I hope the improvements really do make a difference to this hotel as it has some great potential. There aren't many hotels in the surrounding Huddersfield area, so it would surely be well-used for people visiting the area.

Lovely hotel. We stayed in a superior suite through a groupon deal and we had a lovely night.
The food was to a good standard,my steak was cooked perfectly. It was quiet so I am guessing they were working a skeleton staff, but the bar tender/waitress did a great job. Breakfast was ok. A nice selection of pastries and cooked breakfast as well as cereals.
The room we had was huge and over looked the car park(potholes filled and it was lit up.),so no noise from the motorway.
The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable we both slept very well.
It will always hold a special place in my heart as the boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed to me. We found a lovely hotel that is in a great position just off the m62..

I booked through our company's booking service, and although not at my final destination, I knew the hotel from living in the area twenty years ago, so knew it was well regarded.

On arrival the place was not busy which I thought was odd, the receptionist was pleasant, saying she was new. It's only her warmth that has raised the service score from terrible to poor.

My check-in was disturbed by a young female child bothering the receptionist, the child's mother was stood at the door with two other older children, making no attempt to control the child. Once checked in, I asked if I could have a table booked in the restaurant for an evening meal, to be told it was shut, and there was no cooked breakfast either for the morning. A local pub was recommended instead, this was a disappointment, as my memory suggested the restaurant was well regarded when I lived in the area.

The room was not what I expected, very tired, shabby and grubby (but not over dirty), and the door could not be shut quietly due to a poor lock.

I ate at the pub, the New Inn, which was very nice, and I returned to watch TV - which due to the scale of the room (quite large) and the TV on the opposite wall - looked like a postage stamp.

From approximately 19.00hrs to 23.30hrs the only sound was banging doors both bedroom and corridor fire doors, as people just let them go when walking through. This would not have been an issue if the door closures had been adjusted correctly or the electronic hold backs had been working.

At approximately midnight, when finally dropping off to sleep (laid on top of the bed as I did not want to sleep within the sheets), I was abruptly awaken by screaming and shouting from under my first floor window from the rear carpark. On investigating it was the male older child from earlier when checking in, he was running around the carpark shouting at his mother who was sitting in a black BMW with her door open, not making any attempt to stop him disturbing other guests. After some fifteen minutes of this I dressed and went to reception where I met a member of the night staff.

I informed him of my concerns just as the mother and older girl came through the front door, she witnessed my conversation and displeasure at being woken up to which she told me that I was **cking rude to raise it, and her son was autistic and I was to mind my own **cking business. I have no idea where the older male or younger child from earlier in the afternoon were, but she went to I presume their room. The noise resumed in the carpark a few times in the early hours, and he was running into and around parked cars.

In the morning I went to check out and have my prepaid breakfast to be greeted with a jug of orange juice which looked like it had been out all night uncovered, and some mini donuts, very unappetising. I left without eating stopping at McDonalds on route to my meeting.

This hotel reminded me of a hostel or refugee centre (which in the current state of affairs are needed) but please make this clear when people are booking, as well as the non existence of a restaurant or bar, as the hotel is not in an urban are so not a lot of choice.

Stay here at your peril....

Stayed here at end of October 2022 in between house moves to avoid chaos!
This hotel should not be open as it is not ready as advertised on Booking.com.
Being originally from Outlane we remembered the Golf House in its heyday and it was wonderful. We wanted the relaunch to succeed but left feeling embarrassed that this is what we have to offer guests. All the negative reviews are quite correct, ie. Loud banging firedoors throughout the building, poorest breakfast we've ever been offered anywhere, rooms very tired. We upgraded to an executive room but was very disappointed. Also they fail to mention that they house homeless people who came to the breakfast in pyjamas and stand outside in the entrance and garden areas smoking and drinking from cans.
It's run down and not worth the money to stay there. Ideally it should close again be completely gutted and refurbished. They should fix the kitchens and employ chefs before opening. We still have family in the village and this is apparently echoed throughout Outlane.
The staff were lovely, however that is not enough for a pleasant stay.

Once we had found the entrance we settled in immediately. Christine on the front desk was amazingly helpful and our room was fantastic. This was our weekend base while we visited dear boy at the university. Despite full bookings of weddings and partnerships we were made welcome at the bar and restaurant. Food was delicious too. Big shout out to Dionne and Oliver for going above and behind with service. Thank you! We shall be back

We stayed here for one night, and was greeted by a friendly receptionist who checked us in to our room. We entered the room to be met with an overwhelming smell of stale cigarette smoke and cling film covering the smoke detector!!! We went back to reception where our room was changed immediately.

This room was better, everywhere was clean and tidy, the linen and towels were fresh, with provisions to make tea and coffee. We then spent the rest of the day with family to return in the evening. Upon returning, my husband asked if they had any Diet Coke, upon which we were served warm bottles of Diet Coke from a bar that was in darkness and clearly closed.

Our night was comfortable, but then we attempted to get breakfast. Breakfast is advertised as a full continental breakfast but we were met with a deadly silent ‘restaurant’ with a few boxes of variety pack cereal, a couple of packets of cheese, some stale bread and crumpets in a basket and some fruit juice which was sat around dirty pots and used cutlery.

We soon checked out and went in to the village of Slaithwaite for a decent breakfast. All in all, not an experience I’d want to repeat!

Absolutely loved it here. Got our deal through groupon and the good was amazing, the staff went above and beyond for us while we was there and was made to feel very welcome. The room was cosy and they even put us on the bottom floor when asked. Could not recommend a better place to stay and eat. Thank you.

My husband and I have just spent a pleasant 4 night stay here, whilst visiting family in the area. Having stayed here many times in the past and having spoken to reception staff on the telephone, we were not put off by the bad reviews. The Hotel has only just re-opened after having been closed for over 2 years, since the covid pandemic began. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The bar, dining room and corridors have been freshly decorated and everywhere was nice and warm. The management are aware that further refurbishment and improvements are needed and are committed to achieving a good standard, as soon as possible. We had a large room on the top floor, which was nicely decorated and clean. The large bed had nice white bedding and was very comfortable. White towels in the sparkling white bathroom, with good shower and abundant supply of hot water. As members, we booked through Best Western and were advised that the restaurant was not open, as the kitchen is awaiting refurbishment, therefore only continental breakfast would be available. There was cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, white/brown bread, crumpets and bagels to toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee.
The bar is now open, so ongoing improvements all the time. We will certainly stay here again, next time we're in the area.
