Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely stay at The Relish. We were greeted with a warm welcome and found our room clean and tastefully decorated, as was the entire guesthouse.

The breakfast was great, a good selection of both hot and cold options, served promptly in a lovely breakfast room looking out over the garden.

The location was ideal, a few minutes from the Leas costal park and beach, yet we found it extremely quiet.

Our host was really friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. The whole experience at The Relish was very relaxing and easy, and we would highly recommend a stay.

Warm welcome on arrival. The homemade cake was an added bonus.

Comfortable en suite room. Free tea and coffee all day downstairs plus tea and coffee making facilities in your room. Outdoor garden area backing onto private gardens is nice.

There is a great variety and choice for breakfast for all tastes and to set you up for your day.

The hotel is in a great location for walking into town or the seafront.

Contact the hotel directly as rooms can be better value than hotel comparison websites.

Book early and secure (limited) parking. If you can't, seek out free on-road parking nearby, or use Sandgate Road Car Park (5 min walk).

Recommended.

Lovely little hotel. Nice clean room and comfortable bed. It's a short walk to the main shops or to the beach. Was a bit chilly when we arrived but used the electric fire for 10 mins and after that the heating made the room ideal.
Parking was available nearby but we found a free space very close.
Would definitely stay again.

How this hotel is ever given 5 stars is unbelievable to me it’s a very average hotel with tiny rooms and a mean spirited attitude.

The indigo room is the smallest room I have stayed in since the 90’s , a tv the size of an iPad,drafty windows and a very average bathroom (some White Company toiletries do not make a bathroom luxury) the room is not even as good as an average premier inn and not even close to their plus rooms , never mind excellent chains like Resident or Moxy all so so much better and none of them claim to be luxury.

I should have been wary when you book and are sent the longest list of terms and conditions I have ever seen .

I’ve stayed in lower grade hotels in Folkestone but these hotels try to make up any shortcomings by offering helpful friendly customer service

4pm check in is just wrong even 11am check out is a bit mean

Parking is difficult nearby so other Hotels have a link to the council parking site and sort out cheap all day parking this hotel doesn’t offer.

So what is good about the hotel , a nice reception and lounge you never go in and their is complimentary coffee and water yet the complimentary wine and beer mentioned on the website is never offered ,btw free Wi-Fi is not really a selling point these days .

To be fair breakfast is included which is just average the avocado on the toast couldn’t be spread any thinner , seating in the dining room is tired and maybe cleaning the splattered wall and door frame at the table where we ate would be nice .

I wonder if the 6ft bedhead that came away from the wall and could have fallen on us at any point as it was inadequately fixed to the wall would be covered in those terms and conditions.

However you do get a slice of cake!

It was clean and tidy. However, it pretty much ends there.

The bathrooms were fitted with macerators so whenever you used the toilet, washbasin, shower or bath the whole building can hear a very loud grinding sound. All the furniture and fixtures were worn and/or old - the lick of paint and new headboard in the rooms isn't going to disguise the rest of the room.

Sachet teas and coffees, refill toiletries and picnic style take away breakfast.

For the same and cheaper hotels in the area we had:
table service breakfast at socially distanced tables
bathrobes and much better towels, toiletries
proper tea and filter coffee available in rooms, including fresh milk and mini fridge
air conditioner
filtered water available at all times (rather than having to email reception and wait 6 hours for a response)
daily housekeeping if requested whilst you are out of your room

the whole pace basically felt like an upgraded hostel, but not by much. given the price point, you are better off elsewhere.

We stayed at The Relish the week after the lockdown restrictions had been lifted. The purpose was to visit our new born grandchild. We opted for a small hotel for safety. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned, the refreshment tray was not replenished, which was simply packet milk, coffee and tea! No clean cups or crockery was provided and after having to ask for our room to be cleaned it became apparent that these would not be forthcoming so we washed them in the bathroom sink. We had to go downstairs to get our breakfast which for Covid reasons was prepared in a paper bag to eat in our room, the same room that had a layer of human hair that was not either mine or my partners. The hotel smelt of spices throughout. I would not under any circumstances recommend this hotel to anyone especially at £120 per night.

Would love to write a review of this hotel but sadly we can’t because they cancelled our reservation with less than 24 hours’ notice. Staff were very unapologetic. Completely left us in the lurch as all hotels within 20 miles were full and so had to drive home to Weybridge instead of staying overnight.

Arrived at the Relish having not been told there was no parking at the hotel. After driving round and round for quite some time finally found a parking space quite a distance from the hotel. No one at reception to greet you, only a letter and your key in an envelope telling you which room you are in. We were in Cliff room on the third floor with no lift. There is no one there to even help you carry your luggage up those three flights of stairs! I was with my daughter so we booked a twin room only to be told when we arrived that their twin rooms were on the top floor. I am an 80 year old woman and to have to climb 3 flights of stairs with my luggage was impossible so my poor daughter had to make three journeys up and down those stairs. The room was nothing special, a nice size and clean but because it was in the eves it was very hot. There was another letter on the desk welcoming us to the hotel and telling us we had to pre-order breakfast and that there would be "No Servicing of the Room." No explanation why, so it meant that our beds, room and bathroom would not be cleaned throughout our stay which is totally unacceptable. If your hotel is open for business then rooms should be cleaned. I did not come away to make my own beds and clean my own bathroom. We did not see our hosts the whole time we were there except to be served our breakfast. This to me is not an hotel but more a B&B and I would not rate it a 4*. If you have any mobility problems this place is not for you.

We had a lovely break here, in a very nice quiet hotel.
Before arrival we had communication from the hotel advising of the changes that Covid has caused, and unlike some reviews fully appreciate how they have to run now in order to keep both guest and staff safe.
The bed was lovely and comfortable, and the shower was nice and powerful. Yes it can not offer a full English as offered, but they have made alternative arrangements so that you can get sandwiches, toast, continental breakfast etc which needs to be eaten in your room. Would definitely come back.

I can't recommend The Relish enough! I booked the Orchid room as a surprise for my (now) fiancee! The room is truly breathtaking and was such a special place to stay. If that wasn't enough Laura kindly arranged for our bed to be decorated with rose petals, free of charge. The bathroom is enormous with a spectacular shower and bath, plus the gorgeous White Company products left us smelling amazing for our whole trip. There is a huge range of breakfast items - and all of a really high quality. I can't understand the negative reviews, Laura could not do enough for her guests and made our stay really special - we will certainly be back!
