I thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend. The hotel staff were the friendliest that I've encountered in a long time. Our room was lovely with the high ceiling making it feel roomier. The murder mystery actors had the whole room laughing on both nights and the guests are encouraged to join in with the theme. This weekend it was 1920s Gangsters. After the meal on the Friday we were treated to the talented singing of a duo who had us all up dancing. On the Saturday afternoon we were supplied with a mystery clue trail which linked into the theme. All the guests dressed up with extra effort on their costumes for the Saturday night murder finale. We'll definitely be doing another murder mystery here as it's such good fun, well organised and great value.

Had a fantastic weekend for the "Godmother" themed Murder Mystery Weekend. Excellent dinners on both evenings and the entertainment was first class. The events company (Walking Theatre Co) were terrific . Such great fun and met some lovely people. Everyone was really up for a good time, and most people dressed up for the occasion! The couple who provided the entertainment on Friday night were fabulous and got everyone on the dancefloor, the energy was a bit less with the DJ on Saturday night, and although the weather was horrible enjoyed the clue-finding task on Saturday around the town, lots of fun. Breakfast was good, with a more than ample selection, my only criticism would be that the hot food selection was not very warm, but good quality. It's not exactly 5* but very clean, floorboards a bit creaky, but the bed was very comfortable. Shower not very hot and no mat for stepping out of the bath (had to use a hand towel to avoid slipping on the floor!) Service was excellent and the majority of staff friendly. All in all, a really enjoyable weekend and would definitely return.

Went as a group of four in two rooms. Friendly check in on arrival. Room decor is a little dated and floorboards squeaky but the comfort of the bed couldn't be faulted, with tea, coffee, biscuits and full toiletry range not to forget the outstanding views across the water. Evening meal, food and service faultless with murder mystery actors during the meal excellent. Walking mystery solver through the next day allowing you to see dunoon or the insides of the pubs. Breakfast had plenty choices and the following evening meal and finale to the murder mystery just as good as the first night. The only let down was the entertainment. The Friday night duo were brilliant and had the whole room dancing all night. The DJ on the Saturday night killed the atmosphere and emptied the room. All in all a well planned and entertaining almost perfect weekend. Would definitely go back if the Saturday night entertainment was changed.

We visited the hotel as part of a murder mystery weekend, Live and let spy. It was good value, excellent entertainment and kept us occupied all weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful. Well worth the 4 hour drive to get there. Not everything met our expectations though. Sorry. My comments shouldn't add any cost, just a bit of management involvement. We are non smokers, we find cigarette smoke unpleasant, although there are no smoking signs at reception, there are none in the room and people were smoking in the rooms which is unpleasant, a safety risk and possibly against the rules. Even worse is having to walk through the gathering of smokers at the door (Including the receptionist) see the number of cigarette butts in the flower pot by the door!! Smoking within 20m of entrances should be banned. Whilst the set menu looked good, the food was not, undercooked vegetables, tough meat. All our group complained, if the chef looked at the full plates being returned it should have raised a concern. It doesn't cost much to cook food properly. The senior hotel manager should stay in each room for a night, the glaring floodlights through poorly fitting curtains, the shower that dribbles rather than sprays, the excessively noisy bathroom fan, might get some attention, factored in to the hotel maintenance budget. Despite the comments above, Thankyou Argyle Hotel for making our February better. PK

Good morning, Thank you for leaving you review after your recent stay with us. We appreciate all your feedback and constructive comments. We take all these on board so we can provide a better customer service in the future. We are thrilled to read that you enjoyed the Murder Mystery event. Our staff and the Walking Theatre Company work extremely hard to make sure the weekends run brilliantly and year after year the events prove to be more and more popular. Thank you for highlighting the issues that arose during your visit, it disappoints us knowing our guests have experienced problems while they are in the hotel. I would like assure you that i will be speaking with the various department managers to rectify the issues you have mentioned. We do hope you will come back again and enjoy one of our other themed weekends. Kind regards SGE Customer Services

We were part of a Shearings Coach party at the Argyle from 23 to 27 December. This hotel appears to be run on a very low budget! The Christmas decorations looked very old and tired. The one bar was poorly stocked with appropriate glasses to serve whiskey or any drinks other than wine, beer or cordial. There was a lift available but it was slow, noisy and unfortunately had to use it because of mobility issues but when used, was glad to get out safely. (do the hotel have it serviced and certificates available?) The main issue for our 1 star review was the food. The food was no way delivered by a professional Chef of hotel quality, even 3 Star. Breakfasts were ok but the plates for hot food were cold, hence breakfast choice went cold very quickly. Fried eggs swimming in oil, overcooked scrambled eggs. Dinners were average, nothing special but Christmas dinner was terrible. On Christmas Day - Breakfast was 8.00am and 'Traditional' Christmas dinner was 3.30pm so we were hungry. Picture plate - mashed potato in the middle, sliced turkey on top, 2 roast potatoes, 2 pigs in blanket, sausage ball, and frozen sprouts on top, gravy, no other veg. The starters/deserts all appeared shop bought. Spoiled our Christmas totally as was not 'traditional, or of good quality'. The Hotel had other guests in their Rio restaurant for Christmas dinner, we assume they were given a different dinner to us or they would not have paid and walked out if given the same meal as we received. We had no option. Positive notes - the room was good for a standard double, (not a suite as named). Bed was comfortable, facilities good, room clean. The few staff working were overworked as not enough staff to cater for the number of people in the hotel. Albeit they were polite and worked hard.

At some point in time this hotel would have been magnificent but.... The staff work hard to please but the quality of the food disappointed, cold plate equals cold food. The little touches were missing given that it's Christmas...no chocolates, nibbles or nuts left around in the bars or lounge areas. The place clearly needs a refurbishment but that wasn't the issue for me, just the lack of thought for the little things...rudderless!!!

We had a recent overnight at the Argyll hotel. The rooms could do with a lick of paint, but that is my only gripe. View from the window was stunning, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was really tasty and very reasonably priced. Cracking wee hotel and we will definitely be back.

Downstairs - lovely decor on the whole, staff great especially the man who works in the rio. Very helpful and friendly. Breakfast staff lovely. Rooms - very tired, lift is ancient and a little scary lol bridle suite lacking full length mirror which I'd say is pretty important for the type of room. Bathrooms had hot water but that's probably the most I can say. Bedding was clean and room cleaned well. But grubby in places. Food the food was lovely, good choice and all was very well cooked. We had our wedding at the Argyll at short notice and although the staff were fantastic the hotel does require a management cash injection. Drinks were cheap. The reception venue was lovely and the staff did a fantastic job. Everyone loves the food and service. Again downstairs was very beautiful with the Christmas decorations up and dark nights.

My friend bought the afternoon tea package for my mum for her 80th birthday gift.. we arrived and receptionist was lovely and welcoming as was the waitress.. we were asked what sandwiches we wanted as they were made fresh, we made our selection and waited.. I have to say when they brought the tray out I was very surprised but not in a good way.. there were 4 little sandwiches each then below was a slab of chocolate cake a slab of cheesecake a tirimasu and 3 profiterolls without chocolate.. anyway this was my mums very first ever afternoon tea and we were pretty underwhelmed.. the staff were lovely but the choice wasn’t great ..
