In a secluded valley, invisible to the outside world, lies Hidden Valley Yurts and Lake House at Lower Glyn Farm in South Wales. Our glamping site contains 5 Mongolian yurts (3 for 7 people and 2 for 5 people) stretched along the top of a beautiful, south-facing meadow alongside a stream and The Lake House is our new all year round accommodation now available to book in 2018. Within easy reach of Monmouth, Tintern, Raglan, Usk, Chepstow and other notable spots along the picturesque Wye Valley in South Wales, Hidden Valley Yurts and Lake House is a well-located base for taking in the kind of sites that made the likes of Wordsworth and Turner produce masterpieces. A designated area of outstanding natural beauty, this corner of Wales has definitely been blessed by Mother Nature. But once ensconced in this beauteous valley, tucked away from the outside world at our unique site, it’s hard to tear yourself away.

Me and my family have just returned from a weekend stay at the Lakehouse.

It is hard to put into words what a fantastic time we had but I will try.

On arrival we were met by Mike the owner and taken to our accommodation. Mike was really friendly and immediatly made us feel most welcome. Taking is into the lakehouse Mike explained how everything worked.

The house had all mod cons, including log fire, dishwasher, tv including netflix and everything else you would need for the perfect weekend away. There was even a selection of board games/toys to keep you occupied when sat snugly in front of the fire.

Everything inside the house was completed to the highest standard and you really did have that feeling that you were somewhere special.

Set in acres of meadow and woodland it was an idyllic setting and just what was required to get away from it all.

On arrival we had mentioned to Mike that we would like to take Tilly the resident farm dog out for a walk and he duly obliged bringing her down the next morning.

We all enjoyed the walk in the countryside and along with Tilly had great fun splashing in the stream, exploring the woodland and swinging on the rope swing or the tornado swing as my little boy called it. I have never known a dog stop and pose for a photo as Tilly did.

I really can not put into words what a great place this is and would definitely recommend it to anybody who simply wants to embrace nature and get away from it all.

Will definitely be looking to return, hopefully sooner rather than later!!!!

Hi Steve B We are so pleased you and your family had such a great time during your stay in the Lake House, even with storm Ciara raging. The Lake House was designed to provide a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere as well as to be a hub for exploring the beauty of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean all year round. Tilly has 12 years experience of making guests fall in love with her and there's nothing she likes more than going on walks and showing people around the meadows and woodlands that make up her home. She is getting a bit old now for photo bombing and would much rather pose for her close ups. she does seem to have an incredible knack of winning the affections of anyone she meets. We look forward to welcoming you on your return to the Lake House (hopefully with some better weather). Kindest regards Mike

Just got back from a long weekend at Hidden Valley Yurts. We stayed in Yurt 1 which is a little way from the other 4 Yurts on the site. We had our own kitchen hut, composting loo and recently installed outdoor shower! Mike the owner has worked really hard to make the site COVID safe, lots of hand gel and antibacterial products found everywhere. You park your vehicle in the car park and then Mike takes your luggage in his Gator down to the site, crossing the steam/river which runs through the Yurt field. You then take a gentle 3 minute stroll over a little wooden bridge to your Yurt. The Yurt was spacious with plenty of sleeping options. Due to the dire weather this weekend we did use the woodburning stove despite it being August! As previous posters have said the site has a resident Spaniel called Tilly who will accompany you on walks around the site and willingly accepts any tit bits you might have going spare but isn't a nuisance and is very gentle at 13+ years old. Can highly recommend a stay, so quiet and peaceful (apart from the thunder!) and you can really go off grid with no mobile signal or WiFi! It meant our son built dams in the stream rather than staring at the iPad!!! Thanks Mike, we had a great stay.

We recently had a long weekend in the Lake House and cannot recommend it highly enough.
The lakehouse is set in a very peaceful and secluded part of the farm and the area immediately around it (including the lake) is reserved exclusively for the use of lakehouse guests. The house itself has been decorated to a very high standard and the facilities are outstanding, they have thought of literally everything, even little things like a hairdryer, spare blankets and bug deterrents.
It was also great to see that recycling facilities had been provided.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Mike and presented with a very helpful little map of the farm that gave suggested walks, we referred to this quite often throughout our stay.
The website suggests its an ideal location for children to build dens or play in the stream and whilst many sites often suggest this, it's the first time we've visited a site where it's actually true. Walking through the woods you see the remains of many little wooden dens children have built during their stays, and our boys had great fun building their own den, wading in the stream and walking around this fantastic site, Our boys loved every minute of it and it was great to see them out enjoying nature.

We would also recommend taking the time to walk to the top of the site up behind the yurt field as the views up there were amazing.

A final mention for the Nisa in Raglan, we bought meat for our barbecue there on the website's recommendation and it was delicious!

We loved every minute of our stay and will definitely be booking again in the future.

Hi JoAgland. It is always so pleasing to hear that our little guests had so much fun playing and exploring the woodlands and farm. We do actively encourage children to get back to nature and do all the things children love to do, getting wet and muddy being the main and most enjoyable activity. As when the children are happy, mum and dad are happy, knowing theycan relax and enjoy the holiday as well. We hope we have thought of almost every thing to make a holiday in the Lake House as easy as possible but without compromising on being eco friendly and trying our best to look after the environment. Thank you for such an amazing review and kind words. I will pass on your final mention to the butchers in the Nisa in Raglan, I am sure they will be really pleased. Kindest regards

Our experience in yurt 1 was great for solitude, wood land walks, as well as the experience of a composting toilet & safari like shower. The kitchen was fitted with a gas hob & over along with a fridge freezer and other mod cons you may have at home. You are required to take your own bedding as well as the food you eat as there is no near by shops. You can paddle in the stream that runs though the 80 acre farm. Advice to take games or books to read as there is no WiFi & limited internet connection depending on network. If you enjoy being of grid like me then this is the place for you.

Dear Eileen J It is really great to hear that you enjoyed your off grid experience in Yurt 1. We do tell our guests that they are unlucky if they get a phone signal and it can some times come as a little bit of a shock to be disconnected for a few days. Sadly due to the pandemic we did have to remove the board games but hopefully they will be back when things get back to normal. Thank you so much for your review and we look forward to seeing you again some time in the future. Kindest regards

Wow what an amazing find.
We were greeted punctually by Mike, an amazing host, we were transported with our luggage to the Lakehouse in an open truck, a quirky start to the holiday.
Mike was very helpful with everything, making sure we were more than comfortable and offered loads of information about the local area
First impression heading towards the Lakehouse wow what a tranquil, peaceful setting, you notice straight away no noise just the sound of the stream and the birds. Once inside I was amazed how beautiful everything was the Lakehouse itself wat utterly immaculate, pristine and the attention to detail is outstanding, 100 times better than the photos if that’s possible.
Stayed for a week in May and we were lucky to experience the changeable British weather, sunshine, rain, hailstones and wind which strangely added to the experience from relaxing in the sunshine on the wooden recliners out on the veranda overlooking the pond, sitting eating breakfast under the enclosed veranda watching the hailstones to snuggling up with the log burner listening to the wind.
Every window you lookout of gives you a different picture of the area, the different trees, especially the beautiful willow tree, and the wildlife. You feel truly blessed to be allowed to join the many different birds in their habitat, we were lucky to see a kingfisher and 10 little ducklings that had hatched and learning to feed on the pond.
Visited the local pubs, amazing delicatessens and butchers the local people were so friendly. There are some stunning walks with breath-taking views cant recommend this place enough
Truly an unforgettable relaxing break can’t wait to book again.
Thank you so much Mike, for sharing this peace of heaven with us

Hi G958Wjackiec I am really sorry that I haven't responded sooner and can only apologise for letting such a wonderfully written and praiseworthy review go unanswered for so long, all I can say is that it has been an extremely busy time. The only response I can give is " WOW, and thank you for such an amazing feed back and praise for what we do here. As you mentioned, we do feel truly blessed to live in and look after such a loverly location. The wild life is a really important part of the farm and we try to do what we can to limit the impact that running a holiday accommodation business has on Mother Nature. In return the bird song, kingfishers and other natural native species all play their part in making The Lake House such a relaxing place to stay. We look forward to seeing you again

I treated my partner to a wknd away for his birthday. Something we all needed having just had our second child and having been in lock down for months. The weather was fabulous, the yurt was incredibly comfortable and luxurious, the site is beautiful and vast and the facilities were clean and comfortable. It's not really camping here but you get to enjoy the elements of outdoor life that campers love whilst having everything you might possibly need at your disposal for a comfortable stay. We felt very safe and well looked after with all the COVID measures in place with communal facilities being deep cleaned regularly.
We brought our canoe along and took advantage of being so close to the Wye where some of us swam too. We also treated ourselves to a full body massage with Alana! Woweeee! She's great. Highly recommend her!
Such a gorgeous part of the world! You must visit and stay here!

We had the privilege of staying in the Lake House. The surroundings took our breath away in what is such a naturally beautiful and private setting, in all things nature. As far as standards go, we could not rate this cottage highly enough - the absolute definition of cleanliness and luxury at a great price. Coupled with a spacious and functional outdoor space, it's perfect for couples/family. There is something very magical about waking up to the sound of mother nature. Quite simply, it's a must visit! Booking back already with Mike who is a legend of a host and top guy!

Our family of 3 stayed in Yurt 4 over the Easter weekend. It was idyllic! The yurt itself was clean, spacious and extremely comfortable. The wood-burning stove was hugely effective at keeping us all warm through the night. Our decking area had a chimenea and its own BBQ, with charcoal available to buy on site. There was plenty of outdoor furniture for dining and generally lounging about. We had our own bathroom, with loo, shower over bath and sink, in a communal block, which was wonderful, and, again, very clean, with loads of hot water. The kitchen area was shared with Yurt 5, and was very well-equipped and maintained; a dishwasher too! There was a pizza oven and shared BBQ area, with a communal camp fire for the evenings if you wanted to chat to the other campers. The site was truly beautiful, with lots of walks through the valley and up to Llanishen and the Carpenters Arms pub – good Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday. The host, Mike, was friendly and so helpful. As my daughter, turning 16 on Easter Sunday, believed herself too old to join in the egg hunt Mike organised, he went to the trouble of making her some beautiful, glittery eggs and boxing them up. Who could ask for more?! The valley is, indeed, hidden away, but still close enough to a B road for comfort, and also to the food shops of Monmouth and Usk. The fact that cars cannot be parked next to the yurts makes for a very safe site should you have young children.
We all agreed that this was the best place we have been ‘glamping’ and hope to be back soon. Thank you, Mike, for creating such a special place to really get away from it all.

We have just had a wonderful long weekend in a magical yurt. The location really is special, you feel a million miles away from the hustle of the real world. Mike is a wonderful host and the yurts are incredibly homely and comfortable. We stayed in yurt one which has all the home comforts and is very luxurious 'glamping'. Sitting out in the evening on the deck with the chimenea going watching the dappled sun through the trees is a great way to relax. Wandering through the wooded valley exploring the trails or splashing in the stream you can properly get away from it here. We'll definitely be back, great for adults and children alike. In the current covid situation Mike & team are doing a great job to keep it safe for all concerned.

After our trip to Spain was cancelled, we treated ourselves to 5 days at the Lake House (a friend recommended Hidden Valley after staying in the yurts). I've always wanted to go to the Wye Valley and will definitely go back. The Lake House is really lovely - very comfortable, clean, and looks great. It's very secluded and the kids loved playing in the stream and racing around the lake. We went for some lovely walks on site (watched two buzzards) and the kids were excited to stay up to see the bats. Short drive to Tintern and some really lovely walks nearby in the forest. Lots of amazing views and waterfalls. Ate at the Anchor Inn at Tintern and the Carpenters Arms at Llanishen. Both good food and friendly atmosphere (esp. Carpenters Arms). We had a couple of amazing sunny days and also some heavy rain - which was fine as we lighted the fire and watched the rain and mist on the hill. Mike was very helpful and the kids loved travelling in the buggy.

Highly recommend staying here - just wish our kids would stop say that they prefer the lake house to our house!

Sadly I have let my responding to reviews slip slightly this year, in my defence it has been an extremely busy but short season on the yurt site this year. We have had so many similar tales of canceled holidays both abroad and home, so it is absolutely wonderful to hear that you had such a wonderful stay. Nature has really gone mad this year and we have see and been told about so much wildlife seen both around the Lake House and the yurt site, from bats to Kingfishers, from Voles to grass snakes. We are so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Hi Louisa No need to bring any cooking or eating equipment as all is provided. You will need to bring bedding (duvet, duvet covers, single sheets (double sheets provided) and pillow cases (pillows provided), towels and toiletries. These items can be hired from us, please contact me on 01600 860 723 for details. We also provide shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the bathrooms but you may prefer you own products. Most of the major supermarkets will deliver on-line shopping to the site, so no need to pack food. If you do choose to do an on-line shop, we ask that the delivery time is between 13:00 and 15:00, on your arrival day (please could you send a quick e-mail to let me know). You should have received a copy of our arrival details that we send out with every confirmation e-mail (as an attachment) and a printed version in the confirmation letter, which does outline what you do and don't need to bring with you. Kind regards Mike Hidden Valley Yurts
