We are known for our ‘Cool Farm Stays and Gatherings in the Sticks’ and our passion for food grown the proper way. Drovers Rest is a relaxed, hands on kinda place. We pride ourselves on being much more than just posh award winning accommodation. Here it’s all about the experience you have! We believe in the magic that happens when people gather. That’s why a big part of what we do here at Drovers, is gather people. Around our farm activities, our dinner table, camp fires, walking the old Drovers paths and our Epic Events. Me and my family of 4 were due to take a holiday at Drovers Rest, however plans changed and it was just me and my 11 year old daughter. From the moment we arrived to the morning we left, our stay was nothing short of perfect! We stayed in Drovers Cottage, the most beautiful and authentic place, perched in a secluded spot at the top of the hill. It was wonderful! We had everything a family would need for our stay, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, salt, pepper, oils for cooking and herbs! The most warming treat were 4 cupcakes and a whole loaf filled with peppers- It was absolutely DELICIOUS ! So we didnt need to panic, we had everything we needed for our first evening! (The bread went perfect with the soup I brought) We did the farm tour, and me and my daughter loved meeting the many animals and hearing the story of Drovers Rest. Paul, the host (sadly we didnt meet his wife, she was busy working ) was so friendly and really did make us feel like we were at home! The cottage was beautifully decorated and we had shower gel (which was so nice) , dishwasher tabs and all cleaning equipment needed- eco friendly too :) We woke to rabbits in the garden , sheep in the field opposite and peace and quiet! We are definitely returning and cant wait till we do, my husband and son missed out BIG time. Thank you to everyone at Drovers. *we did take a look at the courtyard and bar area and what a place! We didnt eat there, just went for a look and I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying. We just didnt book in time. We sure will next time! 5 stars from us!

We stayed in Drovers Cottage, a short walk away from the main farm. It was simply wonderful! Paul showed us everything on arrival and left us to settle in. Lovely welcome pack of bread, milk and treats. Logs for the fire and gorgeous locally made toiletries. We had 4 restful days away from it all. We could have easily just stayed in the cottage, but explored the local area including the many book shops in Hay on Wye. Some great walks and landmarks suggested by Paul & Kesri. Perfect retreat for couples, but at the same time I think the very clever glamping tents would be a fabulous adventurous break for families with children. There is a tour of the animals at 9am every morning, including the chance to feed them. I LOVED feeding the alpachas and pigs in particular. There are also Guinea Fowl, chickens, ducks, Falabella miniature ponies, goats and sheep. The newly born lambs were adorable. Will definitely return.

We stayed in one of the Safari tents. Which were clean and well maintained. The heated blankets were a nice touch. The log burner too was great as Spring is still a bit chilly at night. The shower and washing room was spotless and modern with a rustic feel. The courtyard was nicely set out with pretty lightning above the seated area. There was a large fire pit, plenty of benches and tables. As we were a large group of several families, we chose to eat at the farm kitchen, this was probably the only let down. The food was nice, but overpriced for what you got. Also the seating area is also a licensed bar, so you can’t bring your own drinks, which is fine for dinner, but after dinner, you either leave the area or continue buying their alcohol. The children really enjoyed the set-up, the owner’s children are lovely and on Easter Sunday arranged an Egg Hunt for the kids! . The barn had ping pong tables and a basketball net, which kept the kids entertained. Would recommend for families as the site is safe and set up with children in mind.

Hi Clare, thanks for your review. Glad that overall you loved the accommodation, the set up and the easter egg hunt the kids organised. We are small family run business so good to hear the areas we are doing well in. Food and bar Regarding BYO If any bar is licensed anywhere in the country they don't allow you to bring in your own personal alcohol into the bar area even after dinner. We did tell your group this very politely several times but were ignored and we still found members of your group going outside and refilling there glasses with their own alcohol and bringing this into the bar area and into the restaurant which to be honest is disrespectful. You can enjoy your own alcohol at the beautiful safari tents, in the cottages or on the verandas. But if you want to enjoy the facilities that is the bar and restaurant you have to resect the rules. Our bar is reasonable priced and much cheaper than any place in the town so its not a hard ask. As for the food. On Friday you enjoyed cheesey garlic flatbreads, followed by sourdough pizzas with your own choice of toppings. Ending with pudding. Sat we customised the normal curry night especially on your groups request to dirty burgers and fries with breads and dips to start and pudding to finish And Sunday lunch you enjoyed 3 meats (beef, pot and chicken) with gravy, roast potatoes, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, parsnips and carrots served on platters. followed by dessert. All the meat we use is organic and the prices are very reasonable for 3 courses. The menus are detailed out before you come and you know what you are getting for the price. We have raving reviews for our food and most nights have a wait list. So this is very disappointing to hear, especially as we have really worked so hard to make your group event special given all the changes in the number in each tent, cancellations and food dietaries etc.

We had a fab long wknd at Drovers Cottage. It was well appointed, beds were comfortable and the house was cosy with a lovely log fire. We really enjoyed our farm tour on the first morning with Paul and his son and had a 10/10 Sunday roast in the barn (pre booked). It’s a really beautiful location with plenty of good walks on the doorstep and enjoyed wandering around hay on wye too. We hadn’t been aware there was a bar offering drinks and cocktails prior to arriving so things like this could be better advertised in advance. With a jam packed car, we wouldn’t have brought our own drinks if we knew we could buy them on site. Would really recommend for families with young children in particular.

Another wonderful stay at Drovers. We stayed in the The Cart House this time which was just beautiful, equipped with everything a family could need. Pepper the dog again had a fantastic time with plenty of freedom to explore and lots of attention! Thank you Paul, Kesri and family for making our stay so pleasant. Hope to be back soon.

We have just returned from a safari tent long weekend in Drovers Rest. This place is magical and adults, children and Border Terrier have had the most wonderful time. Despite the temperature dropping to -2 at night, this didn't dampen our spirits. The beds are so comfy and warm (with electric blankets) and the tents have a log fire which adds to a snuggly feel. Paul and Kesri are wonderful hosts, the food is amazing! They are really chilled and nothing is any trouble. The kids found the farm tour really special and loved the freedom of the roaming around farm. For dog owners, this place is fantastic. Your dog will have a brilliant holiday. Five stars from us.

We've been to Drovers Rest before, and always have an amazing time there. It's a great mix of beautiful countryside, lots going on, delicious shared meals, farm tours, other kids for ours to hang out with, and lots to do in the local area. The cottage we stayed in was perfect - lots of room, and equipped with everything you could need. And the hosts are brilliant, and always on hand

We have recently returned from a stay at Drovers rest in one of their safari tents, the accommodation itself has everything you could ever need and a few lovely luxury touches, the private bathroom is lovely and spotless with cosy underfloor floor heating. We visited with our two dogs with one of ours loving running around the field with their puppy and visiting all the scenic nearby walks. Whilst we didn’t go down due to having one very antisocial dog over the weekend they had lovely chilled out evenings at the bar with an inviting looking fire which looked great when we passed by, however the absolute winner for us was the absolutely amazing Sunday dinner we had. Three courses for just £25 a person is an amazing deal and every course was amazing, particularly enjoyed the parsnip soup and the selection of meats which were all so tasty. Would recommend to anyone and it seems particularly great for families looking to enjoy the farm activities but equally as good for couples like us looking to enjoy the local countryside.

Warm welcome on arrival and was shown to our accommodation, showers, washing up etc. We were then invited to help bring the horses in from the fields into the barn where we chatted more with Paul and his brother Raymond. We drank cocktails before dinner in the courtyard around the fire, Friday was pizza night, cooked from the pizza oven and eaten in the dining room. At 9am Saturday morning all the guests met Paul and Raymond where we helped to feed the horses, chickens, ducks, alpacas, goats, pigs, along with Coco and Indie the dogs, and Stuart the cat! Saturday afternoon was spent in Hay on Wye just a few miles away which had an Artisan market where we bought local produce and had a pint (or two!), then back to camp for a walk over the common. Saturday eve was curry night were Paul’s wife; Kesri made chicken and vegetable curries, Paul cooked chicken and chips for the kids (including my husband!) along with Boerewors, a type of South African sausage on the BBQ. We had Aubergine fritters for starters around the fire, again, whilst drinking cocktails! The tent we stayed in was clean, cosy and with the electric blankets and log fire we were plenty warm enough. We liked the fact that each tent had their own bathroom which again was clean and warm with the underfloor heating along with the washing up facilities. The farm is eco so handwash, body wash and washing up liquid is supplied. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, the friendly family owners, relaxed atmosphere and the animals made it. Truly worth a stay.

We stayed at Drovers Rest just for two nights and had a wonderful stay, visiting parts of the nearby Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons. We stayed in the Cart House, gorgeous accommodation on a lovely farm. A lovely big grassy area to walk around with the dog and blissfully quiet at night. It was quiet when we were there but they have an area where they do activities and barbecues etc. The house could have done with a couple of coffee tables as we had to put our wine glasses on the floor, and sadly had feather bedding which when you have a major feather allergy is not great 😫 not stayed anywhere that still uses feather bedding in ages so i didn't check beforehand so had to take a trip to buy antihistamines. Apart from that we had a really lovely few days there and would definitely return at some point in the future. Great for families or couples and very dog friendly too.

Thanks for your lovely review. Shame we didn't know about your feather allergy beforehand. The feather makes the bedding luxury and very cosy but understand a pain if you have an allergy. Hope to see you all again soo.
