This idyllic timber-framed building in the heart of Hay-on-Wye, thoughtfully decorated with modern art and some intriguing objets d'art, has the perfect owner/host. David will tell you everything you want to know about this splendid little book town - where to eat, drink etc, and cheerfully prepare you a locally sourced breakfast. Do try the homemade baked beans! Designer toiletries,...

From the moment we arrived at The Bear we knew it was a special place. The stone and wooden building looked extremely cosy and welcoming on a winter's night. That welcome continued when we met David, who was an excellent host. Inside the hotel is quirky and characterful, with loads of original features but still with all modern comforts. The...

Booked this fabulous B&B for a Friday/Saturday night stay. Arrived after visiting Tintern Abbey en route (would recommend a visit). The car park is at the back of the building and can easily park 3 cars. Word of warning though. The whole of Hay on Wye is quaint and those with large cars or 4x4s will struggle to get down...

Fantastic B&B in the heart of Hay and seriously good value for money. Beautiful and tasteful interiors with breakfasts to match. The accommodation is spotless and beautifully presented (in an unfussy way) with a subtle nod to Wales here and there. Our room (No 1) was spacious with a number of special touches such as gorgeous bathroom products, a big...

We had such a warm welcome from David and our room was very comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious and varied from day to day to include home made baked beans and bubble and squeak. A stones throw from the centre of Hay with its shops, books and pub/restaurants Highly recommended

This is a stunning B&B with a lovely welcome from host David. Private parking meant we could leave our car and wander around the charming town of Hay-on-Wye. David was great for recommending places to eat, and really it was lovely just chatting with him about stuff in general! It's just a shame we only stayed one night. However we...

Really exceptional B&B with stylish understated rooms - nice vernacular furniture and blankets. Excellent breakfasts with distinctive touches. David and Andrew are friendly and informative on places to eat, shop, visit. Very central but quiet with blissfully comfortable beds and immaculate luxury bathrooms - special toiletries provided. Set in such a wonderful town, what more could you want?

This is a lovely B&B with outstanding quality of service. Tea and biscuits with fresh milk in the room, TV, WiFi. Great location close to the centre of Hay. Superb breakfast - a cut above most - nice fresh crusty bread, kedgeree, crispy seaweed! Rooms are very stylish and comfortable. Off street parking is a real bonus. I left something...

The Bear B&B is in the middle of the town and has a nice atmosphere in the central theme of books. The rooms are nicely decorated, very quiet and functional. David, the owner is very nice and helpful in explaining everything you need. Breakfast is excellent, fresh and varied.

We had a most friendly welcome from Andrew when we arrived. It was so much appreciated, thank you. The small private car park is a bonus as parking in Hay is at a premium on the narrow often one way and/or resident parking only streets. You cannot fail to be impressed when you first set foot inside The Bear with...
