Quick stopover on our motorbike tour. Safe parking for bikes. Owners very friendly and the hotel is being run following careful and yet not over anxious Covid rules. Really nice location and 5 min walk into town. Breakfast was good- the buffet side of cereals etc were all in tubs and covered jugs so perfectly safe. From reviews I was expecting less, but the decor was new, including the carpets, lovely clean white bedding and really comfy beds. The heating was on too, which was a bonus as we all arrived soaked to the skin ! Very good value.

Stayed here for one night with my wife and that was enough , there are good and bad points about this hotel and are as follows.
Good points : cheaply priced , good location over looking the park and lake , nice tasteful cooked breakfast included in the price.
Bad points : hotel decor everywhere looks very tired and needs updating, our room was right at the top up 2 flights of stairs was very small dusty and badly laid out , the tv was really small and was positioned to one side of the bed so could only be seen clearly if laying on that side, the shower either ran boiling hot or cold so gave up trying to get one , it says it has a bar in the lounge which in fact a beer fridge and a few bottles of spirits on top , sat in the bay window for breakfast and the draft coming through the double glazing was unreal .
Would we stay here again, probably not unless everywhere else was full

We stayed for 2 nights in August. We found the male owner unwelcoming.....check in was very brief, we were asked our name, handed our room key, he pointed at the stairs and said ‘your room is up there’ he then pointed at a door and said ‘breakfast times are on the door’ (a 1 hour slot) that was it! No welcome, no explanation as to the services they offer e.g. refreshments e.g. tea, coffee, bar, snacks etc, no need to explain, there are no additional service - Its not a hotel, its a B & B.
Define a hotel: an establishment providing accommodation, meals, and other services for travellers and tourists.
Our room was compact and the bathroom even more so, flushing the toilet was a struggle as the handle rubbed up the shower cubicle and the toilet cistern shook!
The establishment was clean and the breakfast was good, though no breakfast menu, the poor waitress must be fed up of conversing the menu from memory!
We woke very early both mornings, thanks to the noise from the Canadian geese!
The owner, we did see him another twice and got a ‘morning‘ he clearly doesn't want to communicate with his guests, a shame that during these difficult times for businesses, he doesn't feel it is important to communicate or promote his business or what Buxton has to offer - he comes across, that he would rather be somewhere else!
Would we stay in this B & B again, no.

Firstly.. it's a great location couldn't fault It at all. It was very clean. The staff were friendly enough. The breakfast food was lovely. - but that's all the good things.

It was without a doubt the worst night's sleep I've had in a hotel. The mattress was terribly old and could feel every spring. You were provided with one, very flat, pillow each. I did managed to find spares in the wardrobe, however they were just as flat and useless as the ones on the bed. Hardly slept at all!
The room was very dated dimly lit and had damp marks on the ceiling. The bathroom was very tired with a cast iron bath. We only stayed one night..(thank god) so avoiding using the shower and used the sink to wash. Toiletries were not provided.
The bedrooms were not sound proof at all so could here the room next door.
At breakfast the tables had a sticky residue on them... So did the cups.
The decor of the whole place is extremely dated.
It didn't feel like a hotel as said by other more like a b&b.
It could really be something wonderful IF it had a major refurbished.

The only reason why is a 2 and not a 1 rateing is because it was VERY clean the breakfast food was good and staff where friendly.

This B&B is in an excellent location overlooking the park and a 10 minute walk to the many restaurants in the town centre. I had a large room overlooking the park, which cost extra but the room was larger than the room, which my friends had, which was a standard room. Good choice of cereal, fruit juice and a full english breakfast available every day. Tea / coffee making in room with refills always available in the hall downstairs. Room cleaned on a daily basis if requested. Car parking space at the B&B is limited and could be a problem if all rooms are taken and people park badly.

Overall we had a great stay at the Westminster but did have a poor start as the welcome upon arrival was not very warm and tbh the owner was a bit gruff.
Anyhow that done with our room was spot on , great size and spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed.
Breakfast was both tasty and plentiful. Special mention and thanks to Sharon who looked after us very well during breakfast service plus the kitchen staff 👏👏
Location was great with a 5 min walk into the bottom part of Buxton and slightly longer uphill to what I guess was a market square and now is full of restaurants and pubs.
Based on our stay I have no hesitation in recommending the Westminster.

I agree with a lot of comments on this site this is not a hotel but a bed & breakfast and looked a bit tired.
First of all it's location is lovely and you can walk through the park to the theatre as it's just a few mins away.
Breakfast was ok just a full English but plenty of it and the waitress was very pleasant but breakfast was only served from 8-9 and the Poor woman had to keep reciting what the breakfast entailed so maybe have menus on the tables instead .

I picked this place as the rooms looked lovely all seemly having a view of the park and as we were going to the theatre it seemed ideal .
Our room was a small double 1 chair no dressing time and our view was of the fire escape which was dire so we kept the curtains closed .The bed was incredibly hard and we didn't get a good night sleep .
On the website a lounge was mentioned but both rooms just seem to contain the tables for breakfast.I was glad we had only booked for the one night .

My wife and I have visited Buxton a number of times over the years but never stayed for some reason in bottom Buxton. So glad we did this time and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay, convenient for all attractions and restaurants.
Hotel overlooking the park and we booked a room with lake view so really nice.
The room was large, well appointed with a full size bath that was much appreciated considering the cold and damp weather.
Breakfast fine and good quality, served by Sharon who was so friendly and happy to have a bit of banter.
No problem checking in, gentleman was friendly and efficient.
Parking was also fine, lots of spaces and providing people parked sensibly no problem getting in or out. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, frankly if you have a problem here then I would suggest you are the one with issues. No hesitation to recommend and we will return when back in Buxton.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here & I still can't believe what excellent value it is.
Where else would you get this value for accommodation only a 5 minute walk from a tourist town centre?
Ok the rooms may not be Ritz or Savoy standard but you are not paying Ritz or Savoy prices.
Add in an excellent breakfast served with a smile & nothing being too much trouble & you have one of the best value places I have stayed in.
The only slight downside (an observation, not a criticism) is that the car parking can be a bit tight when busy & you may struggle if you have a 4x4 or people carrier type vehicle.
All in all, an excellent stay & highly recommended.

The hotel has private parking at the rear, the front faces and gives access to Buxton Park. It is situated close to the town centre. Rooms are basic with signs of minor wear and tear, but acceptable. We stayed in room 7 the bathroom of which has a sunken floor that could cause a trip hazard, especially since the bathroom lighting is poor, we needed to switch the mirror light on to adequately illuminate to bathroom. Breakfasts are very nice. A good location, but not a high end hotel as reflected by the price. We would stay again.
