We were after a base in the Oxfordshire area for four days that would allow us to explore the local area.

This was a great find. We had great communications before we arrived, knew what we had booked, and had everything confirmed. When we arrived, we were welcomed and shown to our room.

We had one of the chalet apartments, number 20, at the back of the house, overlooking the garden – it was lovely and quiet. The room was a good size, comfortable and had welcome additions such as tea and coffee making with biscuits. Something we missed elsewhere during COVID. The room was straightened every day, condiments replenished as were the shower gels.

The dining room was well laid out with guests spaced apart. I believe all guests chose their breakfast time to maintain these arrangements. The room was ventilated, and hand sanitiser was available for additional confidence when it came to the self-service aspects of the breakfast. Breakfast every morning was excellent, a choice of fruit, cereals, and cooked breakfasts – including an option for your own combination. The food was well cooked and presented nicely – it set us up for a day exploring the area.

Matt and Helen were great hosts, they were usually busy but always found time to ask about our previous day and plans ahead. COVID meant there were none of the usual flyers available, but they were really knowledgeable about things in the local area.

This lovely welcoming place to stay helped make our stay more enjoyable.

Fairlawns is situated about a 10 minutes walk from the town centre. We had a one night stay in one of the new build rooms outside of the main house, it was spotlessly clean, warm, quiet and comfortable. Good choice for breakfast, everything cooked fresh. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Ample parking on site, we would not hesitate to stay here again, highly recommended.

Check in and information was sent out beforehand which was useful. Nevertheless a warm welcome awaited. The hotel was heated and the room comfortable with an efficient skylight blind. All the expected facilities were available although it might have been useful to have some shower gel in a refillable container next to the shower. I would also have preferred to have had a hairdryer without asking for it. Perhaps this is something that could be ordered in advance so that it is in the room ready?Although the downstairs decor and striped carpet (the stripes affected my balance a little and I was afraid I was going to miss a step) were dated, the room was modern with a pretty light fixture. Everything was clean and worked well. Breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh with good quality ingredients. The hotel owners are doing their best to avoid waste. What a good idea to have the breakfast menu on the wall rather than the individual paper menus that get so dirty.
When I drove there I saw the sign for Ashlea Hotel next door which is bigger and brighter but missed the Fairlawns sign so had to double back. There is plenty of parking.
These are small points. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel and would definitely stay there if I was in the area again.

Response from Matt Round, Owner at Fairlawns Guest House

Thank you so much. We are pleased you enjoyed staying at Fairlawns Guest House. Room information and breakfast menu is sent out prior to your stay as you mentioned and of course you can request a hairdryer (or something else before you check in). There is a refillable bottle of shower gel/shampoo in your en suite (not sure how you missed it :-). The striped carpet in the hall, stairs and dining room are being replaced in April 2023. So happy you would stay here again, see you next time you’re in Banbury.

We only stayed here for one night but we were made to feel very welcome. Our welcome was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation we had was lovely. Very clean, spacious and perfect for our needs. The breakfast was incredible. More choice than most hotels you would stay at and the hot breakfast was freshly cooked with fresh local produce...it was lovely. As was the coffee! The property is within easy walking distance of Banbury town centre (Less than 10 minutes) and there is plenty of off road parking. Loved our stay. Thank you to Helen and Matt!

Priorities for us when travelling by car to a hotel is that there is free accessible parking & closeness to town, as I don't always want to drive. The Fairlawn's has both, It's about a ten minute walk to town. Other things on the tick list are friendly staff, good sleep, good breakfast & cleanliness. All boxes ticked! We stayed in room six, which is the attic room. If I had to nit pic, the roof is sloping & the way the room is configured, it is easy to hit your head on the ceiling when making tea. There was a slightly annoying knocking noise that I think came from a cupboard next door that I'm guessing was the pump, to do with the central heating but not a major problem. The shower did the job but the water pressure wasn't the best. The room faces to the side though so there is no road noise from outside which is obviously a positive, as are the two chairs that have a real purpose in that they are good for watching t.v. Rather than the random chair(s) that you often see that don't have a real purpose at all. Overall, the positives more than compensate for the very slight negatives & yes, I would definitely stay here again.

Very friendly host and clean accommodation. Very nice English breakfast for a small fee. Off-street parking in front of room was very useful. Walls between rooms might be a bit thin, but neighbouring guests were quiet.

An immaculately kept guest house which is kept in pristine condition.
We have just returned from a 3 night stay and felt most welcome by Helen and Matt.
A comfortable spacious room with beds that were made beautifully each morning.
Breakfast was cooked to my request and the bacon and sausage were of very good quality. The self service cereal and juice area was very clean and we enjoyed a view outside whilst enjoying our breakfasts.
There is plenty of parking and we felt our car was very safe.
We were thrilled with our stay and can recommend this guesthouse to anyone.
Thank you Helen and Matt for the travel advice, chats and making our stay a perfect one.
We wish you continued success.

FIRST the bad points .....THERE AREN'T ANY!!
Stayed here for three nights. The room is very well presented (we stayed in the Annex) and a very comfortable bed.
Helen and Matt are excellent hosts.
The breakfast room is clean and a good selection of cereals etc and as for the 'Fairlawns cooked breakfast' you won't go wrong!
Would recommend asking for croissants (order these the night before) they are the size of a small bloomer loaf!
All going well we shall be returning next year for a few nights stay!

We have stayed many times at Fairlawns.
The reason we keep returning is because we have always been made to feel very welcome.
The rooms are always spotlessly clean and comfortable.
There is ample parking and its only a short walk into town.
If you find yourself in the Banbury area, we would recommend you stay here.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the family room and had a really nice time.
The whole place has been prepared so well in the current pandemic situation and is so clean and well thought out to keep everyone safe.
The family room was great for the 4 of us and had everything we needed.
The beds were comfortable and bathroom clean.
Breakfast had a great choice and was delicious.
The bed and breakfast is in a great location too and Matt and Helen were so helpful and friendly too making our stay extremely pleasant.
