I'm not sure any B&B in the UK comes close to this - not in my experience anyway. Poppy and Graham are the most enthusiastic, genuine, and entertaining hosts. Former GB Olympian fencers they are fascinating company. The house is charming, comfortable, homely, and full of the most beautiful and interesting curiosities (the artwork on the walls is stunning). We stayed two nights, and had dinner with Poppy and Graham on the first night - don't miss out on this. Great value and delicious home cooked food. It was as if we were invited to a dinner party. The wine in the cellar is in exceptional condition and extremely fairly priced. And Graham's breakfast (and guacamole) is one of the best I have tasted. Don't miss out of this special find! We shall be recommending and returning.

Dear Mike and Vida, Thank you for the best ever review! We loved having you here, such a charming and thoughtful and interesting couple. You looked out from the 4 poster bedroom on Sunday morning to see top fencers in the garden. Who has a fencing piste in the garden? Graham Paul of the Leon Paul family to be sure, and on Sundays all our fellow veteran and Olympic fencers gather here for fencing, croquet, pingpong , lunch and then a barbque. Such fun! Please come this way again, we would love to see you! Best wishes, Poppy - seen in the photo with Mike.

We visited Poppy and Graham for the third time earlier this month and I’m certain that I remember exactly how comfortable I feel when I am there until I return and happily realize I always underestimate it all. We met them through fate in 2010 when the Icelandic volcano erupted and trapped us in London on our tenth, and final, day of a business trip. Amex recommended a couple of places out of the city so we could avoid paying several hundred pounds a night and luckily we thought Uplands looked best. Poppy stopped us at the door and told us to give her all of our dirty laundry so she could clean it for us while we had tea on the patio then she dropped us off at the head of a trail up the road so we could hike for the afternoon, ending at a pub in Edgehill for a pint. Over the course of the next week we had dinner with friends of theirs, I went soaring in a glider with Graham and we were given several places to explore as we never planned on being in the Cotswolds to begin with and knew absolutely nothing of the area.

We have since returned with two of our children (when we learned “eggs are only cooked one way in an English breakfast” is not a rule when they’re for a 7 year old) and I returned this year with one of my kids again because he fell in love with the peace and quiet and home cooked meals just as we had our first visit. Full English breakfasts accompanied by an armload of jams and preserves she has made from their garden, gin and tonic by the fire before dinner (and in the garden in summer), capped off with 3-4 courses plus a cheese board every night for dinner that you simply won’t get at a hotel.

I have seen a couple (only a couple) less than favorable reviews on here and they seem to stem from the misunderstanding of what kind of lodging Uplands House is. You are their guests and dine with them in the evening. That is not kept a secret until you arrive or anything of that nature and it is truly the best feature of the stay. You get to eat and talk to a couple, who you will learn, were Olympic fencers and are still two of the best in the world almost fifty years later and that is only scratching the surface

I’m currently looking ahead at when we may be able to visit next year, though a Pre-Christmas visit would be awfully nice. Having a second mother across the pond has been such a pleasure.

My husband and I had 3 very relaxing nights at the very comfortable Uplands House near Banbury. Poppy is a wonderful hostess and so welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We discussed the dinner menu for the following night whilst sitting in the lounge having cocktails it all felt very grand. The dinners were delicious and Poppy worked so hard to make a meal that all her guests would be able to eat which included home grown fruits and vegetables. It was an added bonus that she was able to join us for dinner at her beautifully laid dining table which was decorated with flowers, candles and lovely china, as she was so interesting to talk to. Breakfast was also very good and a wonderful selection of home made jams were there to be tasted.
The bedroom which had a beautiful view was very comfortable with tea and coffee facilities plus lots of little extras like shoe horn and dressing table mirror. The bathroom had the softest towels and dressing gown I have had anywhere.

We look forward to staying here again.

What a merry bunch you all were! We had such fun together, and I am so pleased you had a good time her. In these Covid times we have to be so careful, but here in the Cotswolds there are so many wonderful things to see and do, it is easy to find new experiences. I have sent you recipes for most things you enjoyed eating here, so I hope they work for you. Stay safe, and I hope to see you soon again! Your new friend Poppy

As soon as we crossed the threshold, we discovered what a treat it was to stay at Uplands House. Nothing was too much trouble for Poppy and Graham, our welcoming hosts, from afternoon tea with cake warm from the oven, to advice about the wealth of local places of interest to visit. Our bedrooms were impressively comfortable, the beds themselves and goose down pillows noteworthy, as well as the cosy bath sheets and instant hot water. We’ll remember the gourmet dinners presented with flair (mmmm, that ratatouille, Graham) and garnished with fresh fruit and veg from the garden, as much for the lively conversation. Breakfasts challenged dinner for deliciousness and it was impossible not to have an extra slice of toast in order to sample Poppy’s array of home made jam and marmalade. Thank you, Poppy and Graham, for an unforgettable visit to your home.

We recently spent two nights at Uplands House hosted by Poppy to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We really did have the most marvellous time and so much better than a hotel. Everything was perfect - the room with its four poster was large with double aspect looking out onto her wonderful garden with its rose beds and herbaceous borders. Poppy offers an evening meal to her guests and we ate in both nights to enjoy her first class cuisine and hospitality - more a dinner party really with all the guests and Poppy dining together. Two more convivial evenings it is hard to imagine. Breakfast was freshly cooked for everyone with locally sourced bacon, eggs etc. and was absolutely delicious. The house itself is a delight full of the most lovely artworks and memorabilia. For anyone looking to stay in that area with easy access to the Cotswolds, pretty local villages and Oxford I would not hesitate to recommend Uplands House, you will not be disappointed. We shall certainly return on a regular basis.

From the website, our expectation was of a boutique B and B but what we experienced was, in some ways, better than this. We felt that we were staying as invited guests in a very comfortable and characterful family home. Poppy is the perfect hostess. She and Graham have every aspect of the service they offer running very smoothly and efficiently. Every need has been anticipated and individual tastes are well catered for. On our first evening, we wanted to entertain two close friends and Poppy obliged by personally tailoring a delicious four course dinner with champagne and wine for the needs of our party. Breakfast was also beautifully prepared and nicely presented. Poppy obviously loves entertaining people and is a fascinating and gregarious hostess. Graham is quietly practical in the background, keeping the wheels well oiled and the house perfectly maintained. Together, they are a great team. We hope to return for another stay soon.

We stayed with the vivacious, and so very interesting Poppy and husband Graham for just one night, en route to North Wales for a Jag club trip. (Safe parking outside the house). Both of us would have loved to have stayed longer and explored the area in detail; especially all the National Trust Properties close by. Next time.. ! Our very comfortable, spacious room and bathroom were tastefully decorated and overlooked the very pretty garden, with brown cows in fields beyond…Dinner that night was duck, homemade plum sauce, dauphinoise potatoes and garden vegetables, deliciously cooked by Poppy herself. Breakfast, just as good, with fresh OJ & berries from the kitchen garden. Highly recommended.

We arranged to meet friends here to catch up after several postponed attempts due to Covid. It is a lovely interesting house with a delightful garden. Poppy was a great host and made us very welcome. Dinner was really good - delicious food and superb wines - served in a very elegant dining room. The rooms are comfortable and interesting and very well equipped. There are so many beautiful and fascinating photos, pictures and artefacts in the house which can generate interesting conversations. Breakfast was excellent. All in all a most enjoyable stay and one we would like to repeat. Thank you so much, Poppy and Bernie.

What a joy! We stayed for 3 nights in the four poster bedroom
Poppy is the most wonderful host. We loved sharing the table with her for dinner on our first night followed by breakfast each morning.
Poppy and Graham cooked dinner for us on our arrival and the food was delicious. Beautifully cooked with a lovely bottle of wine and excellent company.
Our room was spotless with everything you might need during your stay. The bed was comfortable with beautiful linen.
Dont look any further! Book yourself into this charming and eclectic country house and you wont be disappointed.
Cant wait to come back soon!
