Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived at the hotel with high hopes, but they were smashed quite quickly. At first we were happy that we got a room in the old part of the hotel, as we like accommodations with a character. The room was pleasantly warm and looked cosy, but as soon as we opened the blackout curtains we saw that the white curtain behind it was grey (when was it washed?) and had several holes. The window frame was dirty, with "ancient" dead insects and several live bugs hiding there (it was inside the room). It explained why we were greeted by two bugs zooming around when we entered the room. The bathroom was also in a very bad state. The sink and the bath were stained, the shower curtain had missing and mismatched rings. The "cherry in the cake" was when we looked into the loo and it was brown around the rim. This called for a calming tea. As you can expect from a decent hotel there was a kettle, but the tea selection... The only choice we had was whether we wanted a tea or not - the only tea available was some non-descript filter bag in a jar. You would expect much more from a £140 a night room. As the hotel was fully booked moving to other room wasn't an option... We planned to leave a feedback, but on the feedback form there was only a what you liked option. When we turned it over to write on the other side we found that someone (previous lodgers?) have already written some phone numbers and other personal stuff there. The form was also coffee stained and folded in half, so clearly used. During the night the radiator was very noisy (it definitely had air in it) as it was trickling and dripping all night. We love nature but having a "brook" in our room didn't help with sleeping. The breakfast was ok, if you don't count that if you don't specifically ask the waiters for bread when ordering your eggs by the time your toast arrives your bacon and eggs will be stone cold. To finish with something positive the murder mystery night we attended and the food served there was really great.

Awful from start to finish. Checkout was OK but very uninformative. Room was straight out of a 70’s B&B and not very clean either. Food; don’t even go there. Inedible (particularly the bullet sprouts!) main course and the service was shocking. Ran out of coffee and never came back. Truly pants!! Breakfast was a joke. No cutlery (we cleaned our own) no mugs (really) eggs turned up after we had finished and still waiting for toast. I try and end on a positive note with some constructive feedback. So here goes; sack everyone, rent a bulldozer and start again

Stayed here for two weeks the hotel is nice enough bed was comfortable and decent shower with good internet. Staff are friendly. The hotel does not cater well for vegetarians, there are onlt a few options and none of these have any real protein value. In any case if i am to stay for a week i would like a bit more choice of what to eat.

I Attended a wedding reception and was told the vegetarian option for the main course was salmon! After I complained, I was eventually presented with a dried up veggie burger to go with the uninspiring salad.

Afternoon Tea with Prosecco was a very average experience. The sandwich fillings were uninteresting and one was so bland and tasteless that the content of the filling waa unclear. The cakes were very stodgy and ordinary. The scones were ok but the amount of cream and jam supplied wasn't in any way generous. At £59.95 per couple as advertised through Buyagift it was expensive and disappointing. The Staff were very pleasant but the overall experience left a lot to be desired and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I was booked into this hotel for a two night stay last weekend. I booked through Hotels.com for two people with a small dog.. All conformed and paid for last March. On arrival were informed the dog could not stay as they would not accept dogs. The extremely rude receptionist telephoned the Manager at my request who came back with a £50 additional charge for the dog. So much for not accepting pets, obviously they do but at a price. I asked what this exorbitant amount was for to be told it was for a deep clean as dogs shed hair (Ours does not- she is a miniature poodle) I said I thought every room would have a deep clean between guests especially in these Covid times but received no reply. We are in our 70’s and after a 4 hour drive from Leeds were not even offered a glass of water whilst we tried to find another room. Not easy late on a Friday afternoon in an area we do not know and with poor WiFi. We eventually found somewhere but 40 mins away- very inconvenient as we were attending a family event in Banbury. An extremely unpleasant start to our weekend with staff who were borderline aggressive and very rude. Will steer clear of this hotel for future events. The hotel itself is extremely tired looking so maybe we had a lucky escape- at a price though. As late as the Friday evening the website was still showing as pet friendly but it has been altered now. We would not have booked it if we thought we could not take the dog, obviously.

Our second visit to Wroxton House but visiting on a Sunday night was a mistake. For a hotel that advertises its wine bar we were more than a little disappointed that it took over half an hour before we could be served with our fourth choice of wine from the the wine list as they did not have the first three we had chosen. When it eventually arrived it was delivered after our main course had been served. Additionally it took two attempts before the issue with our room was addressed.

Reading reviews is always interesting but these are perplexing with how much they vary. This premises has a large car park and nice outdoor seating areas. The age of the building means it has character (it's not a flat pack chain hotel). My room was a good size and nicely furnished. Nice touch of a number of quality biscuits. The menu was small but the food was cooked to perfection. Not good, perfect. The breakfast was probably the best I ever had. Quality ingredients and again perfectly cooked. All staff were polite, helpful and attentive.

We, along with many of the guests for a family wedding, stayed here for a couple of nights. . Florence and the other staff were very accommodating and attentive, looking after such a big group of us. We didn't have the wedding here, but after we returned from the nearby venue, they were happy to let us have an after party. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and from talking to the guests, they all seemed happy From the night before dinner to the departing lunch, I can't fault the staff, the food or the hotel. Thank you!

Absolutely disgusted, carpets in the room were not vacuumed, the bathroom sink didn’t drain, no towels in the room, one of the party checked into their room and the toilet was full of faeces. We were here for a family wedding elsewhere and returned to the hotel at 11pm for the “after party” and a single porter was on duty to run everything! The beds were soft and the twin rooms had a single duvet in a king size quilt cover. Definitely would not recommend this hotel! £150 was definitely not worth it!
