Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here last night, can’t fault the hotel at all, lovely and clean, bed huge and very comfy. Staff were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond their roles. Food was also amazing, would definitely return. Saw people having the afternoon teas and they looked incredible!

Excellent hotel with very professional staff, good food and a welcoming attitude. Nice atmosphere, have stayed a number of times and will stay again. Family dinner in the evening was most enjoyable and the waitress first class, nothing was too much trouble.

I didn't start to write this with the expectation of giving a Five, but as I assemble my thoughts, what's missing? It's a good location - especially if you do your homework re buses - and more walkable than it might seem. A cab from the train wasn't expensive. The three of us had the entire top (3rd) floor, which gave us two small bedrooms with good beds, a good bathroom, and a central area with room to spread out (there was another bedroom too). It's at the top of a viciously steep stair with shallow treads, but the staff were very good about insisting that they carry our bags (possibly on legal advice!) On the morning of our departure, no one was scheduled to be in at our time, but one of the team said she'd be out walking her dog anyway and would come in specially to move our bags. That's how you get a Five. We had breakfast, a drink, and two dinners in the hotel, and were well satisfied in each case.

The hotel building is I would guess Victorian, so rooms have lovely high ceilings and look over West Park which has a boating lake and makes for a pleasant walk before dinner. Money has clearly been spent on refurbishment and everything was very clean. Windows are double glazed and have limited opening for security, however if you're not travelling with children the catch can be flipped to allow full opening and ventilation. My room was shower only, it was an an electric instant heater type but still gave a decent flow. It was one of those self-contained corner units with half-round doors so not a huge amount of space. All the staff were very nice and helpful. I dined at the Hamilton Restaurant which also serves non-residents and enjoyed dinner and also the breakfast. Note that the conservatory overlooks a rather mundane car-park to rear of hotel. On the plus side, that gives plenty of private parking and the entrance gates are locked at night for added security. All in all, for the price paid I was happy with my stay and would go back.

Really fantastic little hotel. I honestly didn't expect much be it that I was in a work trip for one night. Pleasultly surprised. Room was great. Staff even better. Biggest surprise was the food. For a little hotel restaurant I had one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had and recently coming back from Italy that is saying something.

The hotel is in a good area overlooking a lovely park. It was convenient to get to and there was plenty of on-site, secure parking. The food was delicious, the room clean and comfortable and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Certainly good value for a reasonable price.
