SHH is a very excellent Hotel, and is difficult to fault in any way. The service is 100% in every way and is as good as it can be at any Hotel. Restaurant service is perfect at all times and the food is first class. The Restaurant staff are excellent at all times and could not be faulted.

The hotel reception staff are wonderful, the room we had was somewhat smaller than imagined although the balcony was a useful adjunct. The room was nicely presented although subsequent housekeeping visits varied, requiring us to remind the hotel that our room had, at 5.00 pm in the afternoon, not been serviced.

The breakfast menu was limited and did not offer either porridge or a fish which given the time of year and location appeared odd. Breakfast service on the Sunday morning struggled our wait time was over 30 minutes. Evening service was better, the menu offering was limited and for most part well cooked although the risotto was not cooked and not particularly palatable.

The hotel is reasonably positioned and there are some nice walks to be had, parking at the hotel appears to be on a first come first served basis.

Overall the hotel is fine and enjoys a captive market although there are better hotels in south Devon and Cornwall, but not in Salcombe.

After original plans were cancelled we decided on 3 nights in the UK. The Harbour Group hotels came recommended and having stayed at one of your sister hotels we decided on the Salcombe Hotel. The hotel is very overpriced for what it is , the experience is being compromised due to Covid which is understandable , however the price isn’t.

When we booked the only rooms available were the inland view rooms, this definitely takes away the exclusivity of the room, room 315 To be precise, the windows are on street/road level, next to the delivery entrance (very noisy), the hotel does not have air conditioning so it was difficult to get some air as you can’t have the windows or blinds open due to people looking in and the unnerving thought someone could try to get in!. Recommendation, safety windows and privacy glass. The room itself was of a good size, the bathroom could of accommodated a walk in shower and not just an overhead sortas there was plenty of room. It was nice to have real milk in a small bottle and not just the little cartons , the complementary gin and sherry in the room was a good touch but you were charged for the tonic water to go with the gin? At a overated price. The complimentary slippers were not in the room so we had to ask for those , these things should be there as standard.

We ate at the Jetty restaurant on the first night, again due to Covid the tables were not layed already and no table cloths, the state of some of the tables that had stains and marks didn’t give a good image of an al a carte hotel , more of a local cafe, the cutlery, napkins and side plates are bought to you to lay yourself, however the staff are handling them anyway so they may as well just lay them in the first place, this should be handed to you on a tray. The staff are friendly but there are not enough to manage the guests and additional requirements in place currently. Basic things like salt and pepper, you should not have to keep asking for these.

Breakfast facilities, again difficult due to the current situation, but you should not to have to continually ask for milk to go with your drinks and jams for your toast, just little things that are basics.

We did ask if we could move rooms on a couple of occasions but we were told the hotel was full , upon check out we were asked about our stay, I mentioned the room was noisy and was quite shocked when the receptionist said “oh well you will remember next time”.

This hotel isn’t anything special, very overpriced and paying for the location only.

I came to stay at the harbour hotel with my Mum for a night away in Salcombe. On arrival we were greeted by a welcome drink in the bar (drink of choice off the menu).
The staff were quick to get us an early check in and we managed to get room 106 right next to the spa. We had booked an inland facing room but I am sure this was upgraded as we had a lovely partial view of the estuary.
In the room we had white company toiletries, robes, complimentary sherry and gin, a real bottle of milk and tea and nespresso coffee machine. The hotel had really thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and setting the bar that bit higher than other hotel stays.
The hotel also has a cinema for those rainy days so also a family friendly hotel.
We both had treatments booked in the spa so had a lovely back, neck and shoulder massage then spent some time in the spa area. We were told that there was no steam room and sauna due to Covid but the pool, jacuzzi and pebble relaxation room were all open and on a max 8 people in this area at one time on a first come first served basis. The spa area however was so quiet with only 2 people in there so this was not an issue at all.
Dinner in the jetty restaurant was excellent and I even ordered a dish that was not on the menu which the staff happily accommodated. Everything we asked for was not a problem. Service was on time and all smiles (even with the masks on).
Breakfast was a la Carte and the breakfast buffet items were also brought to our table on request from the waiter also due to Covid restrictions. But this also I could not fault and everything was fresh.
Overall I had a lovely stay at the salcombe harbour hotel and looking forward to coming again!

Olive

We have just come back from a two night mid week break.

The pros :- the hotel is great we felt they were taking the Covid situation seriously, temp check on arrival, lots of hand sanatizer (salcombe gin) available on all tables the location is fantastic with great views of the estuary. Welcome drink on arrival was a lovely gesture and very much welcomed after a long drive. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The spa was clean and not busy, I believe you had to wait if the pool area was busy as you couldn’t book times , it was luck as to if it was busy or not when you wanted to use it. The treatment I had in the spa was very good , very relaxing, I’m pleased I booked before we arrived as all treatments were booked for the 3 days we were there. Dinner in the restaurant was ok but we much preferred room service the following night, food was very good both nights, but room service was much quicker to arrive, the restaurant was busy, I believe they were fully booked so drink orders were a little slow in arriving.
The cons:- we had booked a room with a balcony but were unable to sit out on it as the roofing above it leaked, even when it wasn’t raining the drainage from previous rain dripped through the whole seating area.
Breakfast the first morning wasn’t relaxing, the staff were running around in circles we had to ask a couple of times for our order to be taken, then remind them to bring sauces, extra cutlery as obviously at the moment you can’t get up and get anything yourself. It may have seemed more frantic as we were sat near the service door to the kitchen, (which needs a good clean as it’s filthy.).The second morning we sat over the other side of the room and it appeared a lot more calm and was a very enjoyable breakfast.
Overall we loved it and wouldn’t hesitate in coming back. We’ve stayed in other Harbour hotels and Salcombe is our favourite so far.

The hotel is perfectly situated for a visit to Salcombe at the far end of the main street with stunning views of the estuary and out to sea. Rooms are styled beautifully in accordance with other coastal Harbour hotels. Little niggles with the room included bathroom scales that don't work, cracked bathroom floor tile & missing grouting. The spa area is very relaxing & nice touch of lemon or strawberry water and fruit plus magazines by the loungers.

What marred our weekend stay was the slow service in the restaurant both during evening dinner & breakfast. The waiter messed up our cooked breakfast order by missing my husband's order to the kitchen so only one came out after a 15min wait. A further 5min wait ended up with cold poached eggs that had to be returned to the kitchen (& he wasn't the only guest to do this) then a further wait for another breakfast. He eventually received his warm breakfast 20mins after mine had arrived. All of this was logged on the customer survey leaflet and I received an email the following day acknowledging our issues but they still included a gratuity on our bill which, being typically British, was paid!! This experience will make me think twice about returning unfortunately as it's a lovely hotel in a great location.

We’ve booked this hotel as a short weekend break from London. We were disappointed by the state of the furnishings in the room and the bathroom - they did not reflect the standard expected for a 4 star hotel, nor did they justify a price of 300-400£ a night.
The room type Estuary glimpse had a view of the parking lot & a glimpse of the water. I would not recommend this room (304) as it was very noisy facing the parking lot.
Considering the current situation I would have expected bed throws and extra decorative pillows to have been removed from the bed.
Regarding the safety measures: no one way system for going in/ out the hotel; no temperature checks; no masks indoors in common areas. By comparison, we’ve stopped for a short lunch break at Soar Mill Cove Hotel and they had a one way system implemented, temperature checks and a requirement to wear masks indoors.
Even though they ask for breakfast bookings, there was almost no social
distancing in the restaurant. Note that we’ve dined indoors (lunch & breakfast). The waiters didn’t wear masks nor did they have gloves. Service was slow and the food nothing special. Only few vegetarian options available, my pasta dish was very basic and bland.
We will not be returning nor recommending this hotel.

We’ve just returned from a 5 night stay at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel, it’s in a lovely location with fabulous views and a gorgeous terrace. We are regular visitors to Salcombe but this was our first time in this hotel. On arrival we were met by James who parked our car and took care of our luggage, the car park is very steep and spaces are tight so this was really helpful. This same process was carried out when we were leaving. Our balcony room no 508 was on the top floor, there is a lift as well as stairs. We had a large balcony with sun loungers and a table and chairs. The room was a good size with a dressing table and makeup mirror and lots of plug sockets. The bathroom was very nice with White Company products, the shower was over the bath so if you want a walk in shower be sure to mention this when booking. The bed was really comfy and the linen and pillows excellent. There was plenty of storage and the complimentary gin and sherry were a lovely touch. Housekeeping were great, our room was made up whilst we were at breakfast so we could chill out before heading off each day - this doesn’t happen in all hotels! The food was very good at breakfast and dinner and there was sufficient choice for us however there were no vegetarian main course options at dinner on the menu, but there may have been options offered separately for vegetarian guests. The restaurant staff were excellent and we experienced great service from George, Freddie and Paul. We do want to thank Alex especially for his service, he is a real star, his professionalism, friendly approach and attitude was outstanding. He made us feel like valued guests and went out of his way to make sure we were looked after, we witnessed this same approach towards other guests. We are frequent travellers and it is quite rare to come across someone who really seems to understand how to look after guests, he is a real asset to the hotel. Like many places during these difficult times this hotel is extremely short staffed and all the staff are working long hours and doing their very best to provide a great customer service. We feel visitors should be aware that these are still not normal times so if occasionally items on the menu are unavailable or service is a little slower we need to remember this. We have no complaints whatsoever, we had a great time, thank you to everyone at the hotel, we’re looking forward to returning.

My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful few days at the Harbour Hotel in Salcombe recently. What a true delight this hotel is and set in such a stunning location, the views of the estuary from the bedrooms, bar and restaurant are breathtaking. We loved the interior design and how it complemented the hotel’s surroundings. Our room was fresh and inviting, the bed linen to die for it was so soft. Special touches in the room included a box containing a pair of binoculars to explore the far reaching views and decanters with complementary Sherry and Gin with mixers in the fridge supplied as well as a small bottle of milk which was changed daily for the tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

We dined in the restaurant, the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, the staff very attentive and helpful when choosing from the menu. The food was delicious and presented beautifully on individually designed crockery.

The spa is a real must when visiting this hotel. Subdued lighting creates a lovely feeling of relaxation.

Thank you to all the staff for the welcome they gave us and for all their hard work in making our visit complete.

We decided to have a weekend away after working from home for the whole duration of 'lockdown'. We chose this hotel as it looked fabulous and it's in a great location. On arrival we were greeted and offered sanitiser but it certainly doesn't feel sterile here. The rooms are beautiful with a 'deep cleaned' sticker on doors so staff and visitors know they have been cleaned thoroughly,
Staff here are exceptional even though they are very busy. We in particular would like to commend a fabulous, friendly waiter called "Peter' who seems to know the exact right time to come to ask if we need anything. We watched him working on the terrace and in the restaurant (he also waited on us). He is exemplary and a real credit to this establishment and if you visit I hope you have him as a waiter. We would also like to mention the young man who assisted with parking, brought us an iron, organised newspapers today, he also is a massive asset to the hotel here. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here and we would absolutely give 5 stars.

Dear spaggia Thank you for your message, the intention of replying is indeed to make amends. I was not aware there are issues with emails coming through to my inbox as I am receiving emails as normal. I will however get our IT department to look into this as a matter of urgency and thank you for highlighting. Could I ask that you forward any email onto the main hotel email (TripAdvisor will not allow me to post this email address in this section) in the meantime whilst I get this issue addressed.
