Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived and were warmly greeted by the owner's wife. We arranged to eat in the hotel's restaurant that evening. My wife is a vegetarian and it is very important for her to have a good choice of meals in a restaurant (Vegetarian dish of the day is not acceptable). She had a choice of 6 or 7 main meals - about the same as for the carnivores. We were both impressed with the quality of our meals (the lamb shank was quite delicious and the flesh almost fell off the bone and melted in the mouth) which were very reasonably priced. On the basis of that experience we decided to eat at the Chasedale the following evening as well. The choice of wine was good and reasonably priced. The breakfasts were good.

The room was comfortable, clean and had all you would expect including hairdryer, TV and alarm. Be warned - I believe that only one of the rooms is equipped with a shower. We prefer showers and had specified this one room on booking.

The hotel stands in its own extensive and well-maintained grounds - if the weather had been slightly better in the evenings we would have enjoyed a drink and stroll outside.

The hotel offers excellent value for money and is situated in one of the most attractive parts of England

I have stayed at this hotel with my mother several times and always marvel at the personal touches, time and consideration shown by a very overworked team of husband and wife owners.
This provides a welcome change from the minimalistic anonymity of chain hotels and at a fraction of the price.
My only regret is that more guests do not choose to sample the exceptional food in the evening served with different vegetables from the garden each day. The menu choices change daily and all diets are catered for, including a separate vegetarian menu.
Such exceptional quality is rarely experienced.

My stay here (as before) in July was much enjoyed. The rooms and grounds are all spacious. The meals very good.

The hotel is dog friendly and just round the corner from the hotel is an excellent walk/cycleway one may use to exrcise a dog as well as access local walks in the hills.

Views from the hotel are delightful yet being justy on the edge of the town it is only about 15 min walk to the centre of Ross.

Nigel & Gill are very helpful and most friendly.

Had some doubts when we arrived at the hotel, felt like a step back to a bygone era, and initially doubted the wisdom of the last minute booking we made. The hotel had an air of being somewhat dated and in need of some care and attention. However, we had a pleasant room, large and spacious. The furniture and bed, althought appearing old, were very comfortable, and it was easy for our initial concerns to be replaced by the pleasure of a rather tranquil peace of the place. Yes, the room had a bath but no shower, but hey!, how nice to get yourself into a nice long soak for a change!! The breakfasts were good, the food well cooked and presented. The hosts in particular were very friendly and helpful, making our initial impression of it being a "Fawlty Towers" somewhat unfair and inappropriate. It's location is excellent for visitors to the town/area being only a ten minute stroll into the town. Would certainly visit again.

A lovely Victorian house with personal attention from the owners. Food excellent, prepared by owners, with excellent choices. The bar, lounge and dining room are attractive and comfortable retaining many of the original Victorian features. The bedrooms are very well furnished and comfortable. The hotel is situated just outside of Ross on Wye and on the edge of beautiful countryside.

This hotel was booked for me by late rooms.com after I was let down by another hotel on the eve of my stay. I had not had time to view this hotel so when I arrived I did not know what to expect. The entrance and front looks very tired and unkept and the net curtains at the window's had seen better days, the paint work was shabby ,however what stopped me from going in was the dog mess next to my car. I phoned late rooms.com and told them I was disappointed in there choice of replacement hotel but was told that it had excellent reviews, infact if you look it has ok reviews but people have said that showers do not work and it looks tired and needs updating, I was told to ring them if I was unhappy but they seemed to change and were unwilling to help, so again I cancelled by booking and did my own search via my mobile and found a lovely hotel with 4 poster bed and all the trimmings for just £6 more per night. I was also interested that I was unable to find many photo's of the Chasedale hotel to view maybe there is a reason for that !

We have just returned from a two night break at the Chasedale which we enjoyed immensely. This is the our fourth stay, our first being 28 years ago. The hotel is set in a peaceful location, on the edge of the town, and ideally situated for walking in and around the Wye valley. The hotel is owned and run by a very friendly couple, and it is always a pleasure to return. One reason for leaving this comment was to highly recommend the Vegetarian menu which is superb!! What a change to have a whole page of vegetarian meals --- and not a lasagne in sight!
On arrival, we were warned that the hot water takes while to come through, it does, but be patient, it is there, and lots of it too, and the bath is a traditional size, long enough to stretch out in!
Another enjoyable break, we will definately return.

Stayed for valentines weekend. No inflated package. Felt like being a house guest in a Victorian country house. Very warm welcome.
The hotel was spotless and warm. The room freshly decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The lounge was also very comfortable. We dined in the restaurant which was very good and reasonably priced, three courses and coffee for £18.00. Good selection of wines also. Breakfast consisted of a selection of fruits, cereals and a lovely freshly cooked full English.
We will return.

We agree with most reviews on here. Just returned back after a 2 night stay. Perfectly located and really ideal for dog owners due to owners' friendly style, good size of grounds to exercise and five minutes to a huge selection of lovely hill and path walks. It is ideally situated in the Forest of Dean area. 10 mins drive to the beautiful Symonds Yat and a 10 minute walk away to the many riverside and town centre eateries of Ross. Breakfast was great and there was a good sized lounge area serving drinks, where the dog was welcome so we could properly relax. That being said, do not avoid going here, if you don't travel with a dog- we were the only couple with dogs and it was clear that it catered for families and other groups alike. What was one of the best things, apart from location was the space of the rooms. We had a double which was very big , as well as a hall area and lovely big bathroom with high ceilings. This really meant that it was easy to relax, which we did. We had a very peaceful night's sleep as you felt that the rooms were not on top of one another like you get in many hotels these days so we did not hear anyone else.

The only thing I would say on the negative side was the slightly dated decor in parts. However, we had everyting we needed and felt that the facilities were very clean indeed, so as a result, felt that it was a good place to stay. We hope to stay again in future.
