Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the second I walked into this hotel I fell in love with its charm. A 14th century building with plenty of character. The staff are exceptional in their service, the bar is buzzing with atmosphere and the food is top notch. Not to mention the great selection of drinks and real ales in the bar. The rooms are warm and spacious and well set out. The floors are not level and the floorboards creak, but that just adds to the beauty of this place and a sign of its long history. Sympathetically decorated rooms mean it looks smart. I would most definitely stay here again to visit this lovely market town. The car park is small, but I did manage to get a spot. What a great find, try it, you will not be disappointed.

We arrived in good time to park the car behind excellent access to the hotel. The room was as you would expect in an old coaching hotel, cosy, clean and comfortable. The bar was busy and buzzing. We ate at the restaurant and the food was good, but what made the stay was the excellent staff. Throughout from reception, bar to restaurant they were all very pleasant and attentive.

Wow! I'll start at the beginning! Turning in to the car park was fun! I only wished I had more of an audience for my fantastic spatial awareness (I usually close my eyes in situations like that but thought I'd keep them open, as hubbie was next to me)...Once parked up, I went to book in and was greeted by a lovely chef who promptly fetched someone to sign me in. The guy booking me in was super-friendly and I knew we were in for a good stay. The room was fab (room 8 - great size). Couldn't fault the cleanliness and amenities. We had a meal there and the service was great and the food delicious. I have to say, I have no negatives what-so-ever. Yes, the floor above creaked, as did ours, but I wear ear plugs anyway, due to my hubbie trying to compete with the Thunderscreech plane! All the staff we encountered were efficient and wore smiles. Would I recommend? Yes. Will we book again? Absolutely.

We made a return visit to the King's Head after a few years for a Sunday Lunch. We were made very welcome and thought we might have been recognised. The food was excellent, beef just the right side of rare and we asked for more gravy and it came immediately. My husband's starter of Mussels was super and enough for a main course but he still managed a full roast beef lunch. We'll be back soon.

Great location, with on site free parking on site. The place has charm and character. The staff does a great job. My room was small but very clean, all OK. Bathroom is OK with good shower. One problem is internet access, used to be an issue 10-15 years ago but not in 2023. So please make sure this is solved next time. I expect to stay again next time when internet connection is solved !!

Just come back from an amazing meal at the Kings Head tonight. We were a party of 4 and had 2 ducks with a side of garlic roast new potatoes, 1 steak and a burger. I had the duck which was out of this world as were all the other dishes. This is one of the best meals that we've all had in a long long time. Staff were all friendly and its lovely to eat somewhere where the food is clearly cooked by a proper chef as opposed to a cook. Fine dining at its best and very reasonably priced.

Quirky hotel with interesting rooms - loved the bar and the library. Spacious room with good facilities - only downside is the steep and twisty stairs but the hotel website does warn about this so not an issue. Friendly staff and good choice of breakfast with a central location.

Great location, slap bang in the middle of town with on site free parking. The place had oodles of old world charm and character. The staff were very attention and always on good form. Our room may have been a little pocky, but it is an old building and so I can understand the difficulty of squeezing everything in, and that's my only small grumble. The shower was hot and powerfull. The bathroom condiments were all good quality. I liked having a portable DAB radio provided. We spent dome time during the evening in the bar. Not only were the bar staff always good, but the other customers were also very polite and well behaved. Breakfast was good. I expect to stay again next yome I'm in the area.
